Why the capo? Easier action? Just like the voicing?

The insurance on that motorbike at that age would be prohibitively expensive. And he can't surely be encouraging driving without insurance.

First tune I learned as a 15 year old. Me old man said “son you learn this you learn guitar” he weren’t wrong. 35 years later I’m still playing it. But not as good as Bert. But I’ll get there.

The laughing when he starts singing is completely obnoxious of the crowd. Im not a britney fan at all. But its about sales and making money. She made more money in a week of that song being released than everyone in that room will do in their entire lifetime.

I don't know why people make such a fuss about this song. Its quite tedious imo.And Thompson's voice is so monotone and lacking in color. And theres no point in writing lyrics if your diction is so bad we can't tell what you are singing about.Disappointing all round.

What a disappointing performance.I'd been told about how great this song was but after watching this i'm feeling a bit let down to be honest.

There are those artists who take your mind off the world's problems because they simply distract. Then, there are those like Richard Thompson, who channel the divine and remind you it exists.

The only downside to seeing Thompson play solo acoustic is that after 3 or 4 songs like this you start thinking that this level of songwriting and performance is normal and expected. This is the reason why there’s a bit of dissonance in the comments as to whether he’s recognized or not. Seeing him is like seeing Hendrix, Howlin’ Wolf, the Beatles, or Elvis in his prime. A thing never seen before, and that will never be seen again after he’s gone.

This is really a modern version of ancient English folk songs with outlaw heroes. Thompson's work with Fairport Convention and perofrming those songs gives him a unique perspective.

Wainwright and Vega are both sitting there thinking, "God, I hope I don't have to play guitar after that. I think I'll do my next song a capella."
