Today, I bought a beautiful water color painting from a friend of mine who did a painting of Cuttyhunk Island. I like your question about why you're obsessed by this lovely island. Wish I could share a photo of his painting. It captrured my memories of years when I was younger and lived in the northeast. Thanks 😀for posting this video.

@esousa486 you're welcome! Like I said, there isn't much to do there. I think during the summer they have more events. I would check the town's website ... or call to find out what they have to offer. The ferry is a bit pricey, but you are paying for an experience to explore. I will say this island does have tick problem. The first time I went, I found a big tick crawling behind my ear.

Nonsense. Salt dissolves far faster than the other ingredients, so isn’t an effective abrasive. Its use is based on clueless housewife wishful thinking.
@mywanderingnest9 ай бұрын
The "abrasive" component isn't the traditional "abrasive" like manual grinding sense. The salt is the thickener. Also, common sense tells us that salt water is abrasive, hense why people have to clean off their boats after being at sea. www.armandhammer.com/en/articles/laundry-detergent-ingredients#:~:text=Sodium%20chloride%20%E2%80%93%20NaCl%20is%20simply,enzyme%20stabilizer%20in%20liquid%20detergents.

How can the bar soap be made from coconuts and also be Castile?
@mywanderingnest9 ай бұрын
Because traditionally castile soap was made from olive oil, however with the different types of plants cultivated now, castile soap can be made with other types of oil. Kirk's uses coconut and Dr. Bronners uses a variety like hemp, coconut, palm, olive, etc. Castile means soap not made from animal fats.

Such a peaceful quiet place! Thank you for taking me along. I haven't heard of this island! Questions, are only golf carts allowed? Is there any type of convenient store? Do residents get any type of discount for the ferry? Do residents live full time on the island? Sorry I have so many questions! Never been to anywhere in New England 😿
@mywanderingnest5 ай бұрын
Hey! Sorry I never responded! There are a few cars on the island, but honestly it's really not necessary. I talked to a few residents the first time, and they said they leave their cars on the mainland and just use a golfcart for the island. There are "bulk" ticket prices that count as a discount...but not sure if they have a "resident" discount. Since this island is EXTREMELY expensive, most people who live here can and do own a recreational boat. There is ONE convenient store...however there are only 10 year-round residents...the other 390 are summer-only. Since I've only come during the off season (early May and late September) nothing was open.

Sad that maybe that the AT might have been more than you wanted, and it does for lots of hikers, But To Use the excuses you say, said alot about You !! I'm 76 and have hiked for years in my AT sections but hear your reasons doesn't add up and I follow Hikers on KZbin and have for years. Some make it, some don't, but to say why because they couldn't handle it or had injuries. Hope your Hiking Trails are better and open. Midwest Hiking might be your calling.

I grew up in the Midwest and heard about the AT when I was in high school. But I really started hiking in college out west (Colorado, Utah, and Arizona) during the summers as a Geology student. I also lived out in Oregon for 3 years and hiked in Washington and Oregon. In my most humble opinion, Washington is my favorite state (nature related). During college and my time in the Coast Guard I was researching about thru-hiking the AT vs the PCT. I REALLY wanted to do the PCT however, I decided to attempt the AT because of the amount of town stops and shelters on the trail. Seemed more "forgiving". You don't have to believe me about the drugs on the AT, but I rest assure you...they are there. Like I said Weed #1 and shrooms is a close #2 and like I said, I was offered LSD many times as well. There are many news articles about drugs if you ever want to look them up. Have you ever hiked in the "bubble" for 800 miles in one go? Everyone is different. Like I said, I DID enjoy sections of the AT, but the long in-between just wasn't "worth" it for me. I hiked the first 150 miles of the AT before I got to a section "worthwhile" for me, which was the Smookies. I loved the Smookies! Some people may absolutely think the AT is gorgeous (which some sections are). However, I am not the only person who has said these exact things. Also in my video, I admit the things I did wrong. I really overestimated myself with how many miles I could do in a day. I really should have started earlier (late February) I would have been ahead of the "bubble", I wouldn't feel as rushed, my knees would not have been shot, and I would probably not be around as many drugs. www.backpacker.com/news-and-events/news/pair-arrested-for-allegedly-dealing-drugs-to-appalachian-trail-thru-hikers/

I've heard more than a few derisive comments about that campsite. "worst of the AT" and "clearly the town doesn't like backpackers" That last section from MD to Boiling Springs is the last little section of the Blue Ridge Mountains btw. Things change after that. I'm completely with you on doing what you want to do/enjoy I don't understand the heroic/touch every blaze ideal. I want to punch every "true through-hiker" theoretician. I do a fair amount of day-hikes but usually from October to April or May. Summer is too bleedin' hot. I hear you on your soliloquy here, do what you want to do/enjoy this shouldn't be a religious pilgrimage.
@mywanderingnest Жыл бұрын
Oh yes, it was pretty bad. Get this, this day in town, there was an ATC volunteer that had a booth by the outfitter who was bragging about the campsite. I told her about the trains and she LAUGHED and said "I live my the trains, you get used to them"... I then replied, "well, your house is probably not right on the tracks and your house has walls, we have mosquito netting" She didn't look too thrilled when I said that 😅 And you're right, I did this section in July and I literally hiked from 6:30AM to 10 or 11AM, then lounged around a shelter or a park from 11 - 3 or 4 then hiked from 4-8 again. It was just too hot for anything else and the AT is too rocky/rooty for my comfort to be night hiking. While I was on trail, I was able to make it to church every weekend, but I agree, it's really not a religious pilgrimage. You can make it what you want it to be, sure. However, if you're religious, it's a challenge to keep your beliefs because you are surrounded by many temptations.

So so beautiful! We have friends who moved from Michigan to South Dakota, and they never regretted it. Yes, this was an amazing change in scenery and well needed! For Mt. Rushmore, I see both perspectives. Yes, it belonged to the Sioux, but later on it could have belonged to another tribe that conquered the Sioux and then so forth. It is a good craftsmanship that I think was done tastefully. So, I'm kind of indifferent about it. It is was up for debate today, I would probably vote against it just because I truly admire nature God created.
