No this was south of Columbus. The one in Rarden was a steel truss bridge that came out last year.

I can't help thinking that a piece of currugated steel shuttering, rammed down into the bank while it was still a trickle, would have saved that dam.

It's a year too late, but I would say get letsdig18 in - he's the pond dam man. Having watched the breach video, I'm really glad to see the cut didn't take out more of the dam wall. I was worried you'd lose the whole thing.

*Вывод:* Не закапывайте в дамбу пластмассовые шланги. Делайте нормальный бетонный водосброс, с гидротехническими задвижками :)

I feel like at the 2:00 minute mark of this video he could knocked that spillway down 6 inches and MAYBE help relieve some pressure from the dam. Just kick or rake some crap out of the way like POST10

@profanetruth1726 күн бұрын
the description is erroneous. Muskrats and beavers had nothing to do with COLLAPSED CRAP PLASTIC DRAINAGE PIPES that were obviously bent too sharply on installation - and probably had heavy equipment run across the top of the dam - maybe clearing brush or cutting grass collapsing them even more..you can see the flattened collapsed areas.. there was barely any flow going through the pipes. ONE 30 ft x 24 inch galvanized culvert pipe buried 8 inches below top of dam on pond side, slanted to bottom of dam on creekside - pond inlet 8 inches below top of dam level and 6 feet into pond so water flow at inlet doesn't erode dam. Would have cost less than the plastic pipes - not a forever solution but probably good for 100 years.
@Paw9526 күн бұрын
You wasn’t here to see them do it. You just made an assumptions on what you think happened. When you got beavers and muskrats living inside them they are going to ruin them. I know what happened and you don’t.
@profanetruth1726 күн бұрын
@@Paw95 I have beavers and muskrats in my pond too. They chew the ends of the pipes But you have beavers and muskrats that weigh several tons, and sat on the pipes collapsing them? Looks more like someone's been driving a tractor with a bush hog across the top of dam to keep the willows and weeds down or the top of the dam would be overgrown with saplings and trees.
@Paw9526 күн бұрын
@@profanetruth17 when they chewed holes in it and water flows through them water caused them to under mine. They have been in there for 30 years. Nothing has drove over it.
@profanetruth1725 күн бұрын
@@Paw95 but they're collapsed .. you can see where the pipes are flattened ... I wasnt there when they were installed but it looks like many plastic culvert pipes I've had to replace because of collapse - - maybe the weight of the top fill over the pipes heavy enough to crush. I don't use plastic anymore - - they fail alot. I just replaced the plastic I installed 10 years ago - - used it as overflow for my pond, but like yours it was collapsed ... my collapse was due to running a 300 gallon orchard sprayer with tractor over them... so I put galvanized in like at the other pond - that pipe is over 50 years old and still sound.

The power of nature is somehow quite good to watch. However the other side of my brain was thinking of case law as to liability if water from one person's land causes damage to another's...

I'm curious why they've left the rail in place if they never plan on using it again. Even as a bridge route to get some truck congestion off the highways. Sweet video. I wish i could have seen it in its heyday. 😢
@Paw95Ай бұрын
Good question! It is hard to say why they left it. I never got to see it in the hay day myself. I was too young to see that since i was born in 1995. I did see two NS locomotives going west along 104 probably about the time it was shut down.
