This game is one of my all time favorites unironically. The story might be there but its whatever. I find the gameplay, visuals and dialogue to be very entertaining and more than good enough for a PS2 game. Its less talked about than I would like.

Have you thought about giving project 06 a shot? I’d highly recommend trying it out

There also exist PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, it looks much better than this but the Xbox version requires Kinect, so your best experience would probably be the PS3 version, or you can also try the PC version

When i was a kid i had this game but i actually never knew it was a movie game and just played it for fun (also i didnt understand any of it cuz it was in english and english is not my main language,, and i obviously didnt understand english at the time :P)

One of my childhood games that I played through so many times. I think it's actually pretty good for a licensed game. Of course it has weaknesses, but they aren't that big. What I think is really cool is that it has such good replay value. It's short, quite simple and, above all, you have a bit of freedom of choice. You can choose when to play the Penguin Story, Aleks and Gloria/Melman's Story, Morts and the Junkyard missions, or explore the areas for coins and monkeys. This always offers variety (even if it would have been so much better if the monkeys had simply been made available straight away and not tied to the penguin level). The fact that Marty is so irrelevant is really the biggest criticism. I always thought that there were Alek's rings and Gloria's pepperoni missions, then Marty could also have a race that he could do in some areas (The Waterhole, Rituals). And because every character has their own story (Aleks in the rituals, Gloria/Melman in the volcano dance and did Moto-Moto levels) and Marty only has this minigame, he should have had one too. E.g. that he has to go up the river to check on the dam before the last level comes. I also like that the beginning and end stand out from the main part because you switch between characters and work together or do various short tasks. The game is definitely not perfect, but it is a good licensed game.

Along with Toy Story 3, Madagascar 2 was the licensed game of my childhood that I played over and over again. Even today I still think it's good for a licensed game. You can easily play it through in an afternoon and it offers a lot of variety. I saw on KZbin that the first game was very similar and really wanted to get it, unfortunately I only had a PS3. But then I found Madagascar 3 in a store and bought it immediately because I thought it would be like the second part. In the end I just played Rome, the first world, and didn't bother with it anymore, and that was as a kid where you basically play through everything because you don't get that many games. It's so incredibly boring that just increasing the pace would have made the game much better. But the worst part is that this terrible AI means you have to play practically every stage at least twice, as you have to go through the route twice per mission with both animals available. A sad end to a surprisingly good series.
