song for louise is beautiful song. too bad can't find the original version on the youtube. but hindsight 20/20 first to Louise, a former manager, and second to Lidia; third Jesse Curran; fourth Kristal Padget and fifth to Rebecca Williams. his secret to great music apparently

What an honest, modest old-style Aussie with a fantastic voice and good guitar skills. No bravado, no me-me-me, the polar opposite of what passes for 'celebrity' these days! ('Ye'/Meghan Markle etc. etc. - the whole damned circus!)

I'm in favour of a republic but whether we become a republic or not a new flag is well overdue. The Eureka flag is good option but i'll be happy with anything without the British union flag. What a great song!

I appreciate your opinion and I LOVE this song as well, but, if you enjoy this, look up the songs 'the hat ned kelly wore' or something like 'moreton bay'. Garry Shearston has a whole album that is just brilliant, sings in the style of luke kelly but with Australiana lyrics. The Cobbers are good too. We actually have some wonderful Australian folk songs about bushrangers and our history of rebellion and uprisings against tyranny. I didn't know about it either until very recently, give it a try

Reading between the lines here somewhat. It appears that the Ned Kelly connection comes from the myth that Kelly intended to proclaim a Republic in North East Victoria. However, that was nonsense dreamed up by Ian Jones who was a Kelly fan who wrote books, lauding Kelly, when in fact he was a vicious stand-over-thug and murderer of police. Ned Kelly NEVER mentioned a republic, and it was all made up nonsense. By the way, I really like John's music. Fav song is Cootamundra Wattle.

I personally think it's an embarrassment, a nation of more than 20 million people, one of the world's biggest economies, 120 years of independence, yet another countries flag takes up a quarter of our own.

I don't see the Union Jack as an invasive force to show that England is superior. I see it as an interpretation of Unity, the Unity we have to Britain, and also the Unity they have to us. I want to become a Republic, but I want to keep the Union Jack.

We do need to change our flag to reflect our multiculturalism, having the Jack on it makes us still feel tied to Britain, when all they've ever done for us politically is get our blokes killed in their imperiliastic wars. Piss the bloddy thing off, and have a proper debate with out the politicians telling US what we want, it's up to us the people to decide. We all have our own preference of what we want, but to truly reflect our identity what is decided in a referendum should be binding. Changing the flag doesn't mean leaving the British Commonwealth, just reflecting our identity, that leads to the question as to why we still have the Queen of Great Britain as our constitutional head of government, It doesn't effect Canada, or New Zealand, so why should it effect us, we can make our own choice.
