Pushing against someone, putting a finger in their face and telling them to "calm the fuck down" is a textbook way to NOT get someone to calm down. For anyone interested in learning about how to actually defuse those types of situations you should read the book "Verbal Judo". It's now common for police to receive training in this methodology.
@LlamaCommando6 жыл бұрын
AnInnocentLittleBoy Hey dude I appreciate the book recommendation, and that one is on my list ... But ... Wait for it... Dramatic build up... Dot dot dot You're wrong! But just kind of wrong, not completely wrong. If you pay attention to the context of when I advise using that technique it's right when two guys are about to fight. You might not be able to talk the instigator down. You're right about my advice possibly escalating the situation but that's not a bad thing. It's either let that person fight the other person, or get that person to focus the fight on you (which is your job if you're a bouncer). It's a dare. It lets em know clearly, they can fight but it won't go their way because you're ready to handle it. Most will back down, I've never seen anyone take a swing after using that. But if they do take a swing, you're ready for that too. Talking doesn't always work. It's important to know the difference because you've gotta try talking em down as much as you can. But when you can't, you need to realize that asap.

After over 24 year's on the doors, I'm willing to bet this guy is not a bouncer. And if he ever has done a shift on a club door. He only got it because they were very short staffed. And he only lasted two weeks.
@LlamaCommando7 жыл бұрын
1 year as a regular team guy, 2 years as team leader, then ... 3? years after that as an alternate when I started bounty hunting and wasn't as available. Still do it on occasion for a myriad of different clubs and danger levels. If all you've got is a personal attack, why say anything? You're not helping anyone learn, you're not critiquing my approach or what I say, you're raising your hand and saying "I'm not smart enough to do anything else, so I'm just going to call you a stupid head." Go back to grade school with that.
@jimp71737 жыл бұрын
Victor Leading Horse What I'm saying is that you do not have the presence needed to be a professional bouncer. That is not an insult, it's just a fact. So IF a company took you on as a bouncer, I would have to question the standard of the company or the venue. And as for the fact that you became a team leader after only a year? I was a sniper in a C.O.P unit in the force's. Then I worked in various countries in security before I worked the doors. And I still took years to work up to become the head doorman in the club's. I also have always been involved in MMA, boxing aswell as fitness. So I have quite high standards. Which I'm sorry, but you wouldn't pass the first part of my interview to become a doorman.
@LlamaCommando7 жыл бұрын
All right, show us how it's done then. Let's see your high standards, make a video for us all. How would a former sniper do it? What does a bouncer need? Suggest solutions for us to learn from instead of just pointing out problems you have with me.
@kylethekidable5 жыл бұрын
@@jimp7173 sounds more like you just have a bad temperament and that lagged you back. This guy js undersized, but most of the basics in the video aren't wrong. I also enjoyed your laundry list of accolades that makes you think you should have the right to come into any setting and take over as head of security. A competent HoS who has a fraction of your overall experience but has a few years of that bar has the situational experience and will likely always know the bar, the crowd, and the tactics needed within it to handle the job better than you. As aggressive as you come off in text format, you're likely the type of gung ho jackass who'd beat someone and throw them out for knocking over a drink by accident. Get over yourself dude.

Good advice and add lifting weights, MMA classes. The pony tail could present a problem because once someone gets a hold of it they will use it as a fulcrum to put your head where they want it!
@LlamaCommando7 жыл бұрын
Cute, but through 18 different real (as in not during training, with strangers, who may or may not have had weapons) violent encounters I've been in, no one has done that. Not just bouncing either, I've taken fugitives back to jail. You don't need to lift weights, and you don't really need MMA just to defend yourself or even to bounce. MMA frankly would be a waste of time and lots of money for bouncing (are you an MMA coach? MMAers always say you need years of training because their business model depends on you believing that) Let's be real here, you're just trying to feel special by criticizing someone who's actually doing something. How about you step into this arena and make your own video? Let's see you do it better.
@LlamaCommando7 жыл бұрын
Well you're more thoughtful than I assumed. A personal attack isn't worth anything so I point those out to help them get downvoted, but you're trying to make some real points. If your approach demands a certain kind of strength, you misunderstand leverage as a philosophy and what a human's weapons are. Strength helps, sure, but strength isn't enough. Anytime something isn't enough by itself to solve a problem, you should ask if you need it at all. MMA training would be a fine supplement, but not needed because of the specialized approach I teach (it's evolved quite a bit from this video). It doesn't take much strength at all because it should work for anybody. I could train a reasonably healthy grandma to do this stuff. That's leverage. (altho she might be bad at intimidating folks ha) A human's greatest weapon isn't strength, if it was we'd be gorillas or buffalo. No, our weapon is our mind. And our mind gives us incredible leverage over everything. A few hours, with a bit of force on force training, and I can have someone ready to handle violence. With a FTO (like police use) to mentor them for their first couple shifts, they're fine. MMA or strength training isn't necessary. They're a distraction and a waste of time and money unless you like doing them anyway. When I was team leader, my best guys were never the MMAers. The mmaers escalated and started fights where there were none. My best bouncers were the military folk who saw combat, paramedics, and firefighters. The reason they were the best is because they stayed cool under pressure, they could handle their adrenaline. That's something MMA doesn't directly help with unless the fight happens in a cage. So why bother with MMA at all if I can teach the key skills better than they can? Oh and ... if your approach can't handle some hair pulling, it's not very good is it? If it ever happened, I'd be fine, I'd know what to do, but nobody pulls hair as far as I've seen. ... well except for chick fights. Ha, but they only pulled each others' hair.

@LlamaCommando7 жыл бұрын
Mr.Mask Maker well your advice is just so basic, its kind of like putting "must breath oxygen" on a job listing. its weird to say. stancing isn't as impotant as an intuitive sense of your balance, and checking a kick is really easy. Further, being that neither me, nor any of my team have been nutted on the job through nearly 30 violent encounters across the team, it's a waste of typing based on our experiences. Has keeping your legs together really been key to your successes in your alleged encounters?
@mr.maskmaker66097 жыл бұрын
Michael Leading Horse there you go again talking shit and over exaggerating it's like talking to a kid that said "the world is going to end if you don't by me that toy" checking a kick you cant see coming from a square on stance ain't easy at all it wouldn't happen and once again you need to read what i said I did not say stand with your legs together just don't stand like a idiot with your balls out there saying kick me. a side on stance or boxer stance is better. and "alleged encounters" I find it hard to believe based on this you have done any real life door work if you think "checking a kick is really easy" easy if you know its coming but this isn't a martial arts class that kind of fight is not easy to predict could be a knee to the balls or a push from that stance would shove you backwards I'm just saying based on my years of door work it doesn't work like that and getting in the middle of them and shouting chill the fuck out is not something I'd recommend either I'd sand at the side and say whats going on here and that works because then they are talking to you and you can calm them down if i pushed one and said CHILL THE FUCK OUT they would most likely say or what? or fuck off. everyone has their own way of dealing with shit but the main issue i had was with your attitude in the first reply.I'm done now pointless arguing with someone that twists everything i say.

The wrist an elbow one works, but it works even better if you move back pulling him off balance and having a tight grip on the arm, and a loose but firm wrap around his neck, but still letting him be able to breathe. That way when he is off balance, he can no longer engage you.

@LlamaCommando10 жыл бұрын
Hey glad you found it useful. Best way to talk down comes from negotiation and we call it "refer to a higher power"--basically a threat that isn't under your control. Threat of arrest works better than threat of calling the cops for some reason even though they both mean about the same thing. "Hey man, you're done. Don't make me arrest you." Or "If you hit him, I'll have to arrest you. Etc etc" Most states actually do give you citizen's arrest authority (know your laws first though, I'm not a lawyer) but it never gets to that. The threat is enough. If you get protesting just be firm. "I don't care what he/she/they did, you're done. Just come back next week, or go somewhere else". Most guys don't want to fight and the ones who do, want a fight they can win. Dominant body language, acting really calm (even if you're afraid on the inside) a clear, authoritative, louder voice, and having one of your team there with you will keep control and be very persuasive to most guys. Try to work in pairs as much as possible if you think violence is about to ensue/have to kick someone out. Too intoxicated: The bartender/servers usually let you know but the rule is if they're being a nuisance and/or if other patrons complain about them (far more common and usually women getting harassed). If they can't stand very well use your judgement. Sometimes though, the crowd will get too thick and you'll miss one or two of these guys. We had 2 guys who couldn't stand fall into a pole and a wall in the corner--knocking themselves out. We found them at the end of the night. We think they were fighting but neither one remembered if they were. Ha. Stay safe out there!

+Ash Man, I've been doing security for 18+ years in various states and 9 times out of 10 you can talk someone out of a club rather then have to resort to physical force. If you have to use force then you failed as a security guard, IMO, because there was a breakdown in communication. The key is to stay patient. One of my catch phrases to get someone to at least get close to the door/exit is something along the lines of "Hey, can I talk to you for a second? But its really loud in here. Can we talk somewhere quieter?" Or "*cough* *cough* my throat really hurts. Can we talk somewhere quieter so I don't have to yell?" and motion towards the nearest exit. Typically they will follow you out the door, or at least get very close to it. At which point you state bluntly why they were asked to leave. They may not like it, but who cares you got them out without using force and your job is done. Just go back inside. The door guy will make sure that person doesn't go back in.
@IanKnowland8 жыл бұрын
I would be careful about threatening arrest, or really anything that you're not prepared to or capable of carrying out. A smart guy would say, "What, are you a cop or something?" and that instantly puts you in a stickier situation, since saying "No" would decrease your authority and credibility in their eyes, increasing the likelihood of needing backup. WhichAnd answering "Yes" if it's not true could potentially jam you up legally. Just my two cents! (Former bouncer and federal law enforcement, 7+ years)
@petrocksgarage8 жыл бұрын
+Ian Knowland, in some states, like CA, bouncers with Guard Cards have the power of arrest and can put you in hand cuffs etc. Most major cities in CA require bouncers to have a guard card. So if a bouncer there says you will get arrested, they mean it.
