Thank you for watching teddybetts3254! So, it was moved in 2 pieces about ~75 yards away from where you remember it being and sits at the base of Turtle hill within the confines of the Montauk Point Lighthouse grounds as a point of interest.

I surfed Ditch Plains for years in my youth. Is the East Deck Motel gone? I used to stay in the campgrounds behind it. I recognize the small rock jetty but that's about it. Is the radar tower gone?
@montaukdronestar7710
@montaukdronestar7710 2 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks so much for watching. Yes, you can still sort of make out the old jetty if you know what you are looking at. The area has changed so dramatically over the years. No, the radar tower is in a state is disrepair/disintegration, but still looms large on the horizon.

Thanks for the reply Drone star, I don't know if you ever heard about the rock but how it got the name was a ship years ago named the Great Easter hit the rock going around the point at low tide. It was one of the first ships that was steel and had a double hull and it didn't sink. hahahahaha I forgot how much water the ship drew but even if the rock was 6 feet below the surface you should be able see it since the water is Crystral clear out there. Later and keep up the good work and I still watch crowd surfing at the Ditch with the music which is excellent. My friend Gene Telirico passed away, he lived on east lake drive and the family is asking three million for his dome house at the end of Paradice lane. Later

So, you think it would actually be visible from the surface? I have polarizing lens filters and would TOTALLY do that, but I never thought you'd be able to see it from above the surface.

Great work MDS 🤗 I just happened to watch the Montauk Historical Society's YT video before this one about the return and installation of the original Fresnel Lens.😎 I have visited the lighthouse in the past, Summer of 86' and summer of 2014, one of my favorites. FYI for anyone interested, probably one of the largest collections of Fresnel lenses in this country is at the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse Museum just south of Daytona here in Florida. 😀

Interesting. Looks like they straightened it out for the lift. Last time I saw it (which was just before the work began), it was sitting on the rocks at a huge angle and very hard to get to.

I remember the light beam rotating and flashing over Montauk and never giving any thought of why it vanished. Will it rotate as before or is it going to be stationary? Great job as usual. Drone star
@montaukdronestar7710
@montaukdronestar7710 10 ай бұрын
The beam will rotate as before, however, the timing is slightly different than in the past, so you will see the beam rotating a little FASTER than you may remember. There is discussion on reverting the timing back to it's original interval, but that will require alteration of nautical charts and much rigamarole... but either way, it's just fantastic to see the light again!! Thank you for watching!

I don't know if you were around when the skate park was built but the guy who managed the building of it rented my house for a month of October of that year. He wanted to rent it longer, but we were shutting down the house for the season so please leave. What i understand it was years later he was stung by a bee and died before they could get him to the hospital ,That's life.

Another great vid as usual of the point. I don't know where you live in Montauk but the houses at Ditch Plains take a beating also. We have to paint the house with the best B/M paint, and it lasts only four to five years. I don't know if you have been following the restrictions on R/C craft, but the FAA is trying to ruin the hobby with transponders on all R/C craft. Of course it only applies to the people who are with the AMA and fly at AMA designated fields. I can go on about weather related problems at the house but that's for another time. Later

Another great video by the Drone Star again, You must of been nosing around to be able to find out when they were pulling out. If The operators of the H&l excavators were company men they were covered by Local 138 Operating Engineers operators from Farmingdale New York which i am a member of. I worked at Gilgo beach ten years ago running a front end loader like that setting 40 foot of pipe down on the beach of seven miles .We had a dredge digging the ocean bottom for material to build up the infamous beach all winter. It was a seven-million-dollar job that took 7 months of working Nites during the winter time and was very challenging when it snowed.

@montaukdronestar7710 Жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks so much for watching... so glad you enjoyed it! Not sure about H&L re. Local 138 but you are most likely correct. Wow that Gilgo project sounds like it was a rough gig!! Slip sliding on the snow at the edge of an angry ocean at night on a front end loader... ummmm pass thanks! ;-)

One of hardest thing was being able to see at nite since we had only two light towers on the beach, and getting to the job since i lived 30 miles away. I never missed a nites worth of work during that time since the pay was excellent. One time the foreman asked me to take a 40 foot long 2-foot diameter pipe that was clogged with sand and wash it out at the edge of the beach. Looking at the water facing out to sea and having the waves splashing on the windshield was interesting while feeling the front end loaders wheels sinking every time a wave receded from the shore line.hahahahahaha @@montaukdronestar7710

The existing revetment that protects the toe of the bluff which the lighthouse sits on was in a state of disrepair and beginning to deteriorate at a faster and faster rate over the years. It was, for all practical purposes, completely rebuilt... and this time designed to handle much harsher conditions for a much longer period of time.
@montaukdronestar7710
@montaukdronestar7710 Жыл бұрын
After man years of constant pounding by the surf and marine elements the previous work that was done to protect the toe of the bluff needed to be completely redone. The new structure is designed to withstand much harsher conditions and hopefully last much longer.

uh what I see is that they took the rocks which had been in the water and brought them onto to land THERFORE all I see is a sandy bottom in front and on both sides, so the fish will NO longer be interested in going there as there is no bait because the rocks are gone does anyone agree?
@montaukdronestar7710
@montaukdronestar7710 Жыл бұрын
No rocks were NOT brought on land from the water. The rock used was trucked in. In the case of the Toe Stones they were limited to 1 stone per truck because they were a minimum of 15 tons each, some as much as 20 tons... and additionally it's my understanding they could only be brought from 1 of 2 quarries in upstate NY because they had to meet stringent hardness criteria. NO BOTTOM STRUCTURE WAS CHANGED around Montauk Point beyond the extent of the structure that I saw.... and I actually GOT IN THE WATER to inspect the Toe Stone sets. There will still be LOADS of fish there as always!!! Plus, it seems like it will be much easier to find a good spot surfcast now.
