After languishing in the Montauk Point Lighthouse Museum as a show piece for the last ~36 years, the stunningly beautiful 3-1/2 ORDER FRESNEL LENS that was used from 1903 until 1987 has been restored to service. Many local residents have longed for the return of the "REAL" light with its sweeping beam at the top of the Montauk Point Lighthouse... and now, at long last, after so many years, and so much hard work by so many people at the Montauk Historical Society the bright beam, or "loom of the light" we have craved seeing both from land and on the water is being restored to it's former glory! In the process the lamp has been upgraded with the state-of-the-art, super-bright, energy efficient L.E.D. technology. It is an ABSOLUTELY DAZZLING SPECTACLE both day and night!
THANK YOU SO MUCH to the Montauk Historical Society, U.S.C.G. & all those involved!!!
