Tanking in WoW ruined tanking for me in general lol. I sometimes do it in FF14 tho since the community there is generally a lot nicer and more forgiving.

20yr old game with recycled content ruined tanking. Everybody zergs through it now because the goal isnt the journey, its endgame.

I remember the last time I tried tanking. It was in Cata Classic, on my beartank I was still leveling. Got into Underbog, and while we were waiting for everyone to zone into the dungeon, I sat to eat and get a Well Fed buff. 6 seconds had passed, and the Troll Priest was already spamming /yawn because we weren't at the first boss 15 seconds after loading in. Once everyone got inside, I gave them a second to grab all the quests, and the troll started complaining that I was taking too long. Once we all had our quests and buffs, I pulled the 2 stingray things by the entrance, and the troll told me to pull bigger packs. I said I'm still figuring out this dungeon, which was only half true. Ive done Underbog like 60 times, but I've tanked it only twice before, way back in TBC on a Prot Warrior. Zero experience in that dungeon on a bear. We had gotten to the second pull, when I got kicked. I whisoered the troll asking why I got kicked, and he said "you're too slow, wasting everyone's time. We had been in the instance for literally 90 seconds. I have yet to touch my beartank since.

So I’ve had one moment that really sold me on tank. I was raising in legion, and one of the bosses we had to clear had an instant kill mechanic, I believe it’s a dps race but I can’t remember now due to time. The boss was down to a sliver of health, but the dps had been dying to other mechanics so we didn’t have enough The insta kill goes off, but I’m still standing. My last resort for demon hunter procs, and I keep on fighting, tanking the bosses hits. Realizing we weren’t down, the shamans use their Rez and the priest uses the soul stone they had on them. It was an agonizing five minutes of trying to dps as a tank, but eventually the boss falls, and we win. I’ll never get over how amazing that felt, and even as the dps were flaming since “we should just wipe to go faster” or soemthing, I’ll never forget the healers that thanked me for pulling through

My god, I’m so glad I never got around to this game. This all sounds horrible.

When I play as my Guardian Druid, I usually say the other players just to BEAR with me 😂

key points he didn't address: 1) pulling slow/carefully gimps the party's dps. doing dungeons right goes like this: pull big, group them all up, THEN hit your cooldowns and nuke everything. if you're pulling one pack at a time, they're dying too fast to justify using your cooldowns - so nobody uses them. that's why pulling slowly feels extra slow....because it is. 2) with Augment evokers, you can pull massive because they have an auto-aoe interrupt. this opens the door for insane pulls. back in dragonflight, we'd do +22-23 and i'd pull literally 20-30 mobs, then you bloodlust/hit cooldowns, because the Augvoker's aoe-interrupt is kicking all the casters. THIS is insanely fun warcraft, and it's why you need an augie for higher keys. 3) people can be jerks. ignore them. you can PUT them on ignore in a dungeon. you'll be outta there fast anyway. 4) that said, you really need to be a good leader. watch the guides, learn the pulls, know the strategies, do your kicks, know the affixes. you have to be on top of things because others in your group may not know, so you need to tell them how to do something.

Tanking is literally so easy 🧐 I mained warlock for 9 years, switched to prot pally recently and I physically felt my blood pressure go down. At least in high keys

I quit tanking years ago because I got fed up with with entitled dps pulling mobs before I did crying that I wasn't going fast enough for them.

There's an Old saying in WoW : If the Healer dies, it's the Tank's fault. If the Tank dies, it's the Healer's fault. If a DPS dies, it's their own damn fault!

I stopped playing WoW because i was expected to be frame perfect on everything by every rando i met, and could not catch a break regardless of role i played. Players ruined WoW for me, and swapping to FFXIV was a much better dungeoning experience overall. I love mashing 5 buttons and winning as WAR.

hyper grinding dungeons has kinda ruined them. The game has slowly adjusted over the years in a way that players can go through dungeons a lot faster, and because they can go through them so fast the game has adjusted to needing players do do them a more often. Its dungeon inflation.

If I'm not tanking, I honestly don't feel like I'm playing the game.

As a Tank. Yeeeaaahhhh.

Also as a tank in classic vanilla don't forget to HR orbs in live or first one the community will love you for it

Great thing about being a tank is if your group is being toxic, you can leave knowing that they'll be sat waiting another 15 minutes for a replacement.

I'm surprised you didn't mention or discovered the one simple trick to teleport from wetlands to Dun Morogh : go and die south of Menethil harbor, past the shore with murlocs. You end up in the cim near Dun Morogh. Might not be in your rules but it seems that not many people know this one. It was still working in 2019 classic at least, which is the last time I played.

Healer main here. The solution to groups jumping to conclusions and blaming the tank is, unironically, ask the healer. They're the one monitoring everything, and they can most likely tell you what actually caused a wipe. They won't even lie if it was their fault. What are you gonna do, find another healer? The only role that people hate more than tanking, is healing.

i always get dps that pulls mobs into my packs when i already have problems with holding aggro even if i love the idea of tanking my party mates ruin it for me

im playing tank and i play at the pace i am comfortable with. if anyone feels im too slow, he is free to leave the group. I dont care about other peoples time, because this is a game and they decide if they want to invest their time at all. im so sick about getting backseat-gamed by my own groupmembers... the solution is simple for every fury warrior with bees in his ass: play tank yourself and leave me alone!
