I’ll say this - as a player who mained bear tank and carried a 96.8 avg parse. Your assessment is right IF you don’t have a cat in group. We specifically only had me tank IF we had another feral, and feral feels…actually really good…if you have a cat in your party. Their WildStrikes allows you to run SotF making your mitigation just god mode compared to everyone else (2200 HP with 74% damage mit and 20% magic dmg mit) and when a cat is putting up Mangle your lacerate threats better than literally anything in the game. Our warlock was doing like 256 dps on the turtle and couldn’t pull off me, and my mit is so high the turtle can drop me to -100% armor and I still don’t really take damage on him. Multi target was still vomit though

The 97 parse average is because nobody bear tanked ^^ My dps holy priest was a 99 parser for that same reason. At least bear is a bit better in phase 2!

I still think our shirt slot, probably in phase 4, will have a rune slot that fits any rune. That's how bears will get both mangle and lacerate without screwing over other builds.

Warlock is S tier idk what ur talking about, no other tank can steal my aggro unless they actually taunt. the survivability is insanely high having the highest armor ratio over any other tank, even with a warrior shield equipped.

Idc what he ranks em but I’m loving lock tank, phase 2 even more so. Never had threat issues, except for when we swapped on turtle or were doing pally cheese on akumai. I would pull threat with any searing pains so I would just refresh all my dots

As silly as it is ret was best in phase 1 for pally tanking because seal of command was so much better than consecrate or anything prot had to offer. Pretty much the only difference between being dps or tank is switching the glove rune from taunt to crusader strike. The extra threat from improved righteous fury is nothing compared to what seal of command does for threat. Consecrate didn't scale at all with any of your stats so it did mediocre damage, but command scales with your gear and does 70% of your weapon damage very often. I haven't played much phase 2 yet, but I'm hoping with holy shield I can go back to 1h tanking.

As someone who mains lock tank in P1. I tend to find going demonic grace into shadow cleave actually tends to generate a good amount of AOE threat, you just need to combine the two together otherwise you won't be getting much threat. It kinda reminds me of what an evoker tank would feel like, and it shreds in PVP right now.

Not for nothing, but my guild has a warlock as one of our two MTs and the dude has had zero issues with threat in BFD. I have never seen him once throw down Rain of Fire even, and this is in a group with rogues and warriors consistently pushing over 200 dps.

9:20 Disagree on this point, you can definitely swap runes between fights. Ghamoora: use survival of the fittest for the big melee strikes and his natural protection from physical dmg. Kelris: use wild strikes. But yes, it's annoying how they share a rune slot for sure. Druid, in my book, is better than a C though. It's just ... more or a nuissance to play well than other tanks.

Not taking wild strikes for your group is always troll, and ghamoo doesn't do enough dmg to force you to use sotf. The C ranking is pretty fair compared to other tanks.

Judging by the rune datamines lately (Not just the Phase 2 ones, but also the few Phase 3 Helm/Wrist runes as well) it seems a lot of issues with Rogue combo points and cleave threat are being solved in the future with runes.

thunderclap rune has been buffed as of today, it now deals double damage and double threat making it very competitive for aoe threat

The problem is it still doesn't scale with anything, so it might be fine early in phases, but when people get more gear it will fall off again. I imagine especally at lvl 60 when we'll get multiple bumps to our gear.

If you spam battle shout you can air tank quite well. The more people that in range to get the buff, the more effective it is Bs has a threat mechanic for some reason, and it stacks per person

Brewmaster pre Legion had Chi, which is just a reskinned combo point. That aside, Rogue is a solid raid tank, but in dungeons it's abysmal. They're energy starved constantly and can't aoe at all. I got kicked from several dungeons because the dps pull everything in sight, then I struggle to get aggro off of the 6+ mobs that they hit. I gave up on it.

As a healer for pugs in SM, the druid tank group was easiest to heal, for whatever reason. I had two Lock tanks who made me drink because they wouldn't and they had no interest in stopping because why should they? They have mana tap. Oh and the split threat with split spikes in damage was not good. Warrior was easy to heal. Paladins was depending on the player. The ones with the Ravager and Ret Aura were terrible.

Tried tanking with my druid. Always loved it even in vanilla. Tanked TBC, Wotlk. Tried tanking in SoD and....wtf. I went Cat for phase 1. But I feel cat will fall off a cliff in p2 because of lack of AoE. Not a single way to do ANY trash dmg. So I went Balance. And boy it is fun with eclipse. PvP is really fun as balance. And wildgrowth for gloves gives great utility too. Helping out with heals when shit hits the fan.

warlock tank currently much better then rogue or paladin in all terms. And for everyone If you happen to get group for dungeon leveling 25-40 with druid or rogue tank just instantly leave :)

I was an off tank as a paladin, with a Warlock MT in BFD, I had to pull together the boss encounters all the time, because he lost aggro to rogues, and fury warriors. Currently the SM farm is best with a paladin, all they way, decent 200-300 dps, all mobs eating Consecration, and Retribution aura, with a 120% Holy threat increase. I can pull 10 mobs, keep aggro, while the mages set up their nukes, and bamm. Never had a problem while did the grind to 40. Had a Gnomer raid today. I constanly pulled the threat from the warrior, he was the MT, and wasn't even trying, just doing plain dmg to bosses, while no adds were present, or getting in some extra heals, to help the healers, when someone screwed up something, or put down some bubbles in tight situations. Paladin toolkit is unbeatable, except for Soulstone, and Combat Ress for the dudus.

Been playing Rogue Tank since the beginning of SoD and it’s actually a lot better than people predicted. In terms of damage you’re probably the highest pumping tank class (if not one of the top 3), and the new changes actually allow you to cleave and keep threat on larger mobs with blade flurry and even shuriken toss. Its still funny to find a group that mentions they don’t trust or have doubts with rogue tank and then you just prove them the F wrong. If anyone needs advice or help I’d love to discuss in game @notoriousbis

Not going to lie, your commentary around the weaknesses of Warlock Tanking is really flawed. Your rune selection was terrible, no offense, (no warlock tank should pick lake of fire over master channeler ) you should be cycling your dots (if they can last the full duration, maintain incinerate, spam searing pain only if you need the actual threat, and fill with incinerate on bosses), your doing like 45-50 damage a searing pain when i do upwards of 110-120, so your probably at 0 gear or deciding just not to buff at all. I am not talking at a place of ignorance either. I am top 25 warlock in the world when it comes to warlock tanking and many of my kills from bosses are top 10. Warlock Tank damage output is incredible, WHILE maintaining a super high level of single target threat, while having incredible tankiness/self heal support through Drain Life. The only downfall we have is the ability to tank and maintain threat on many targets.

this echoes the comment i made above, warlock is the Blood DK of SoD and he chose to use none of healing drain life has to offer than come and say its not tanky cause it cant parry or block. he def didnt do any research on how to actually play lock tank.

@@invictus7736 you only pick it on 1 or 2 bosses. Because your not going to sit and take spell pushback on a limited debuff window or just spam searing pain.. Every boss my rotation is pull with incinerate, one searing pain, cycle my dots ( I'm not all plus fire damage , im plus all damage ), i use amplify coa once. If the dot can sit it's full duration, I reapply otherwise I spam incinerate for damage and sp for threat. This changes for like 2 bosses and mostly dependent on your groups kill speed.

Roguetank is so great. I main one and its crazy... I run through sfk alone and need a bandage every 3 packs. Ashenvale bosses i see that i get much more survival than the other tank classes, all but aoe capabilities are S with rogue

gonna have to strongly disagree with ur take on warlock, ur build and complete lack of drain life use with master channeler is why u felt this way. it has as much armor as a full bis prot war can get, yes u cant block or parry, but you can self heal a TON, id say warlock tank is the blood death knight of classic SoD and easily the tankiest tank with master channeler. i also have not faced many threat issues running instant corruption instead of going down destruction at all. a full row of dots with incin/searing and a timely taunt have made threat a non-issue. dmg wise the spec also does a decent amount this way and is comparable to dps in the raid. not sure what you talent build is either but Imp untalented does 12-13% of my dmg on top of more hp. definitely alot of potential missed during your lock play through.

I didn't play SoD, but I did tank on a shammy in Classic. I wouldn't wanna tank on one even in SoD because of the mana issues. Enhancement doesn't even become functional until TBC talents. So without the mana talents and the Agi to SP talents, you aren't doing jack. Water Shield was never a good spell for the DPS spec shamans, ever, never ever, it was never good and not used lol. They shouldn't have made Shammy tanking phys mitigation based, they should've made it heal sustain based so you can wear caster mail and have a mana pool. Big L, they made the wrong design choice.

Yeah, your take on shaman tank is just horrible lol: Squishiest tank for armour/hp, with no defensive cds (Rogue doesn't count until P2 sorry). Worst taunt in the game by a mile (melee range spell on nature school, that doubles as your interrupt). 0 mana efficiency that goes oom in 30 seconds unless you get godlike rng, or give up something else mandatory for tanking. Lowest damage of any tank and its not even close, which automatically makes them bottom tier. The only tank in the game with 0 mobility in raid because GW is ass. And their main utility got replaced by a fkn Druid rune which is just all-around better, in P1 lol... Shaman is C-tier at best, only beating Rogue right now because they don't even have a functional tank spec until P2. I play a pally tank too, and they are 100% S-tier next to War, but Shaman? Not a chance in hell haha. Also, your take on Lock tank is awful and you have no idea how to play it sorry.

Only chiming in here so people dont read your comment and accidentally think you're right. A 6 second cooldown taunt with interrupt is extremely far from the worst taunt in the game, comparing to druids growl for instance which is a ten second cooldown. Rogue evasion and dps also makes them very viable even before p2.
