Hi! this game is awesome, will it be released soon? And can you make a video tutorial 1 basic version (screen, player,attack...)
@GameEndeavor9 күн бұрын
@@NgọcNguyễn-w3j5x Not soon, sorry. :) This is a large scope game that's going to take me a long time, and I actually plan to release a couple small games before this one to get experience with releasing games. So it's going to be a few years at least. And no plans / interest in doing any tutorials either. :)

This video is old, but can you explain/share how you did it? In my spare time (lol) I plan to start working on a game I've always day dreamt about and you would be running around and fighting enemies in a very similar way to the combat you've shown here and a tutorial or something would be incredible. Your game looks SO good! I signed up to hear more about it on Kickstarter.

I don't know that I'll do a tutorial on this, as I'm not really interested in making tutorials, but there's an article in the description that helped me finalize my own system. It's not the exact same as what I use, but should help you out too. :)

It is inspired by Tinkers’ Construct-you even confirmed this in a reply to another comment. This is evident in its modular crafting of blades, hilts, and pommels, alongside similar mechanics like crafting tables, furnaces, and casting. Its modular system is very unique. Other games approach smithing differently, such as Skyrim’s skill-tree upgrades, Dark Souls’ NPCs blacksmiths, and Valheim’s survival crafting, none of which use modular systems. While Tinkers’ Construct didn’t invent blacksmithing, its distinct modular style clearly influenced this game. Don’t try to lie. And if it is different. Then ACTUALLY show us your system, so we can see how different it is.
@GameEndeavorАй бұрын
@@Keynetics LMFAO, it is not unique. Not by a longshot. Mount & Blade II, Kynseed, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Jacksmith, Mortal Online 2, Fallout 4 technically, Assassin's Creed Revelations kinda. There's actually a name for it, it's called a made-to-order crafting system. Just because some games do boring ass static crafting doesn't mean everyone else has to as well. To seriously imply that TC owns the rights to modular crafting is so fking laughable that I can't take you seriously. I am aware of TC and there are some things I like about it that will creep it's way into my design (very few, because I actually don't like TInker's Construct. It's a shit mod with shit design that more often ruins packs than not. No disrespect to the creator). But please show me in the video where I build a smeltery for holding molten metal. Where I craft patterns and molds used to craft the parts of the items. Where you get to pour whatever material you want into generic molds (that I don't have). Where you have modifiers and you can add random items to in order to increase the stats of the item. Hell, I said you can enchant the weapons, you can't even enchant TC items xD. Where you can fking attach sticks to sword blades as a handle... You seen the video. I don't know what more you're wanting to see, or what you think I'm hiding, lol. When you interact with an anvil, the lil UI menu pops up, you select the parts you want, and if you have the materials, the item is crafted. There's not a whole lot to it. I'm not interested in making overly complicated mechanics. This will suffice for my needs. You smelt ores into ingots, that's about the only thing not in the video because I haven't worked on it yet, but it's also going to be straightforward, probably menu based with a queue and timer. Just, watch some blacksmithing videos, my guy. I do. I'm fascinated with blacksmithing. You'll see that swords are made up of different parts. Again, TC didn't invent blacksmithing.

Not too much, I only have a couple hours in it and I didn't really do the smithing. This setup did solve the clumsiness I was experiencing when I was crafting the parts individually though. :) Are you a fan? I've been wanting to give it a proper playthrough, it seems like a lot of fun.

If you are recording who crafted an item, then you can integrate into the exp distribution that some tiny fraction of exp goes to the item and the maker of the item. Probably should limit it to equipped items so that an inventory full of items prevents any exp gain. Another possibility is that as long as the item crafter is within a certain radius of the items the crafted, they can gain residual exp from those items...

Hey! Been watching your videos for a while and I think I have an idea you might like. I was thinking about how I played Stardew Valley, and I decided in that game to focus on fishing. I think I liked it because it felt like a more off-the-wall way to play. But part of what dragged me in was the fishing micro game - and I really loved how as I leveled up in fishing and bought better fishing gear, the micro-game became easier (or when it became harder, it always was because I was after a bigger fish). I think adding some sort of micro-game to forging could make the forging feel more like something you are doing. Some immediate thoughts (which probably wouldn't work - immediate thoughts are usually not good ones) would be pounding the metal to a certain beat - maybe easier metals to work with have more generous timing - maybe stronger characters pound the metal better - idk - again that was a first thought. I bet you could find an applicable microgame from Cooking Mama or something. Anyway, "microgame" was my instinct when you said you wanted to make the blacksmithing more than selecting an item in a menu - not that a microgame would replace the other cool stuff you did, but you might consider it as a supplement (or I could be totally wrong and a microgame would end up making the whole thing tedious)
@GameEndeavor2 ай бұрын
@@ilovegamedesign1576 Howdy! I agree, and prototyped a mini-game for forging, but it's still in the early stages, so I decided to leave it out of the video. Even cut out a huge chunk of audio I recorded for it which is why the video is so short, lmao. If I decide to keep it, I will make a future video on it. :) Mini-games are tricky, because they do get tiring if you don't do them properly. The fishing mini-game for Stardew Valley is really well designed, so it never gets old. So I would want to design something just as addictive if I used a mini-game. :)

So are you just creating a default node named StateMachine on the SleepingAngel and then extending the state machine template script with a new script named SleepingAngelFSM on that default node named StateMachine? I know that was wordy, but you really seemed to gloss over that part

@GameEndeavor2 ай бұрын
It was an actual thing and it's called tyromancy, lol. The lil mouse in the video is a tyromancer. Cheese in the game acts like potions though, so I don't think I will make a class based off of it. You can be a cheesemonger that makes and sells cheese.

I don't think so, I'm often taking damage and even getting game overs. I'm also the developer, and rule #1 of gamedev difficulty is you are a lot better at your game than everyone else. But I'm also not putting a lot of time into balancing the combat right now as it's not my focus and this game isn't meant to be brutally difficult. I'm more focused on the open world sandbox aspects of it. :) I will balance combat more later, get plenty of test playing to see what other people think about it, and likely have different difficulty settings.

A "pacifist" run where you can forge you way to victory sounds like a lovely alternative win condition in a game. Additional things I'd add to a crafting system is a "flourish" or "trinket" slot, that lets you add bonuses, as fun things like say ribbons or chains hanging off a blade, or gems or carvings and banding added for cosmetic variation; perhaps this could be a late game addition to give more for the player to go back and rediscover? Having a nice variety of metal to let the player work with would be a plus. Including some odd alloys, and making up a few fake fantasy metals/alloys to fluff things up is always a nice way to go in an RPG.
