Coming from someone who’s playing the solo clarinet part for my wind ensemble winter concert, I absolutely adore mvm 2 ❤

I walk daily. I recently started listening to Gustav Holst's 2nd suite for Military Band. The first movement is my favorite and I walk four times faster as a result!! Just try walking in time to it! Holst's marching band tunes, English folk songs in general, and the music they have inspired have always been favorites. Both start out with a very masculine theme and then, gradually, enter a sort of twilight-a yearning for "Over The Hills and Far Away', which I love. It is that yearning for Faëry than inspired Tolkien and Victorian authors such as George MacDonald and Mary de Morgan...... "We can visit but we may not stay".

By far the most memorable piece I ever played in high school. I played crash and suspended cymbals. My parts were hard enough for me, but I remember being mesmerized by everyone in the band playing even more difficult parts than mine, and truly giving it their all. Absolutely LOVE this piece--I come here often to walk down memory lane!

I have the oboe solo for the shorter version of this!
having to play this as a hs student is an absolute nightmare. Chaconne is not forgiving for people who have the fast part. Not even oboe (I'm the only oboe btw in my band class!) isn't safe from the absolute pain the fast part. it's so hard to hear cues as well (as an oboe with too many rests in music I have to rely on cues to play at the right time). very good song though! wish I was able to play it genuinely

Did anyone else notice that at 2:23 someone went low and it contrasted the tubas really well as we’re in the upper. I think it was either the contrabass clarinet or the string bass who did that. It sounded great for a quick little hit for you to notice
Switching from cornets to trumpets in the middle of the tune is cheating.
