Incredibly interesting to hear this piece in a large-band context

La parte del Trombone è quello che aspetto sempre di più con ansia, perché ho sentito pochi suonarlo come si deve e lui è stato fantastico. Brava tutta l'orchestra e il Maestro che la dirige!

My high school concert band is doing a somewhat abridged version of this song for the Spring Concert in April. It's coming along amazingly!

Search for this piece, followed by "imslp". It is basically a pdf of all the individual parts as well as recordings and scores. Hope this helps.

I may be wrong, but I feel like the French horn/piccolo duet from 6:40 to 7:23 is a little out of tune, or at least, the piccolo. Just my opinion, but the piccolo seems to be playing the right notes in regard to notation except with pitch. I'm a percussionist, but am unable to read music beyond some basic tympani parts (Drum teachers have neglected that aspect). Could someone tell me where I'm going wrong with this?
@rebekahredford29 жыл бұрын
In regard to your intonation question, if my ears are not failing me, I believe the piccolo in some places sounds surprisingly flat. Looking at the score, the piccolo part is written in the upper most octave, which is generally [supposed to be] sharp. Additionally, the piccolo part is written in the key of E major while the horn remains in the key of C major. In E major, F# and E are notoriously sharp notes for piccolos and flutes. Since the horn has the melody in the home key, the piccolo needs to adjust carefully relative to the horn. Otherwise, the piccolo's balance and intonation sounds fine. I hope this helps. I'm not a professional musician, but obviously you and I both have a strong sense of intonation.

Thank you so much! I'm taking an AP music theory course at my high school next year, so by June 2016, I'll (hopefully) have a better sense of the melodic side of music, not just percussion haha!

Ben M No problem. I took AP MT last year. I hope your version of Bolero goes well...and is in tune too!

Thank you so much, but our band teacher took it out of the show. Our school is so small that we don't have enough people for independent jazz band, rock band, wind ensemble, etc. so all those genres are mixed into the Spring Concert. We only have room for two classical pieces, two or three jazz pieces, and so on. So, I'm sad to say we are not doing Boléro

Ben M I'm sorry to hear that. Hope you do well with your concert anyway!

The snare drum player has the most important job of keeping time, but the most boring part to play
@benbuffet14699 жыл бұрын
Surprisingly very unprecise playing. Many of the musicians are rushing to the notes a little ahead of the beat. Some intonation problems too. Tensed playing.

its the uniforms. if they were all in shirtsleeves and cotton breeches stained with wine it would go off much smoother.
