In addition to tips on how to use/understand the formula, do you have any tips on how to balance combat to where your player characters are in their progression? Enemies that are too hard OR too easy are always frustrating.

I'm learning a lot, and a lot fast with RPG maker MV, and I don't even come close to this level of detail. Absolutely absurd just how good this really is. I'm only 14 hours in on my game, first time making a game. These guys must have been working on games since 2003, it's really night and day comparison. They're also on a dramatically inferior, difficult engine.

i got rpg maker mv recently but switched to gamemaker. i just watched 2 tutorial series, once you have a good base you basically have a better rpg maker for free and youll have tons more control with zero plugins. rpg maker makes the easy stuff easier and the hard stuff harder it seems. i havent been at it for that long tho, and i didnt understand gamemaker until i learned some rpg maker first

I never tried anything, so I went straight to MZ on a sale. Now I'm parallel learning JS for it, while familiarizing myself with things.

is there a difference in project data size depending on which methud you stick to?
@runthemc4 күн бұрын
Not anything significant data wise but this is more for keeping things clean and concise. It also saves you time that adds up if you need to change something with an NPC. You can see and edit everything on a single page instead of two pages. It's personal preference really, but this is good practice to learn early on imo.

I've used Dungeon maker MV, for a total of 4 hours. I literally bought it Today, off Humble for 11.99$, and I already knew this, in fact I knew how to do this before I even figured out how to export generated characters. I've never used dungeon maker before in my entire 27 years of life.

Brilliant! I feel like Region IDs represent a ton of untapped potential in RPG Maker, simply because people aren't sure what to do with them. Thanks for this idea!

To prevent a clip, in this example I would suggest turning it on its head and setting the allowed region to 1 and teleporting whenever the region does not equal 1

A simple thing, but powerful when used correctly.

Humourously due to how jumping works, using regions one could also label areas where linking smart jump to a key wont work, to stop one for getting stuck in walls, I know using script commands might be a bit harsh for some though lol. Just a way to do a simple platformer minus a bunch of plugins. Ofc, I also know most dont know how to add custom keys to the core script, the other issue if ya wish to avoid weird key combinations for a common event without a plugin.

To add on to the final tip about player transparency, it's incredibly useful for cutscenes in that instead of trying to finick with the "scroll map" or "scroll camera" options, you can just set your player to transparent and through then use it as a movement tool for the camera. It gets the job done with so much less headache and hassle, as most of us are more familiar with exactly how a player moves in the game rather than how the camera can scroll; it lets you be a lot more precise with much less input, including things such as changing speeds.

Is it possible to make enemies run away when you're overlevelled like in Xenoblade Chronicles?
@runthemc23 күн бұрын
It's certainly possible! You would have an autorun initial page that contains a conditional branch which checks what the player's level it is and stores it in a variable. Then you would have it activate one of two self-switches based on the level. One self-switch that goes to the event page to follow the character, one that goes to the event page that runs away.

First encountered it in Aveyond. Still traumatized by those coyotes.
@flyinyoku354322 күн бұрын
I always liked how those games had wild enemies walking around in groups instead of random encounters. And once you figure out how move routes work in RPG Maker XP, it's possible to sneak past them without fighting them. Useful for avoiding overleveled enemies because the Aveyond series has a lot of non-linear world maps.
