Since you asked, yes, Doom Eternal was a fluke. That's one of the only games that will use all your cores. As of 2024, most games don't use more than six cores, so single-core performance is critically important. Newer CPUs have better single-thread performance, so they'll do better in games.
@RestoTek5 күн бұрын
100% it was interesting with doom though and your right single threaded performance will always do better in gaming, although the future for gaming is changing since I think games in the future will use more and more cores
@selohcin5 күн бұрын
@@RestoTek They've been saying that forever, and it keeps being more wrong than right. The average game in 2015 used four cores, and in 2024 (nine years later!), hardly any games use more than six cores. Yes, it's true that future games will tend to use more cores, but the rate at which core count utilization increases is much slower than many people realize.
@RestoTek5 күн бұрын
Yeah it has been, I remember when the FX range of CPUs came out and it's "8 cores" would be used in all games, and even when true 8 core cpus came out still didn't happen. I guess when games transition to a new api then that might be a game changer, just windows is a bit slow to move on
@selohcin5 күн бұрын
@@RestoTek It's not about Windows; it's about the game engines. Unreal Engine can already use up to 64 cores, but CPU utilization requires the developers to actively tell the engines how to use each of those cores, and most of them are either too rushed or too lazy to do that. This is why it's very unlikely that games will ever progress much beyond 16 cores unless some kind of core allocation automation technology is developed.

@Gamejone_12318 күн бұрын
Short answer: No, it's a solid cpu, very stable. Now if someone upgrades every gen, it would be lackluster. Also, you're using cheap Intel stock cooler on a flagship CPU, on that locked motherboard (which you gave disclaimer on), substantially nuked performance about 50% (I scored over 1200 in CB 24 multicore)
@RestoTek18 күн бұрын
@Gamejone_123 I didn't use a stock cooler, that's the biggest cooler I've ever owned what are you talking about? in the first test for tomb raider, the steam os cpu was using 20% less cpu even if a few less frames, system will run cooler, similar results in GTA V. same thing in hogwarts legacy as well. the CPU is 20% less loaded than on windows. frames such because HL is poorly optimised but even the CPU is 4-5 degrees cooler as well. oncve heat soak from the windows system sets in it will slow down and much faster. also given the massive CPU usage power draw will also be much higher. hell divers CPU load and temps are almost identical but yet more frames. I feel like steamOS will yield better efficiency given the lower CPU usage and temps perhaps not by much but it matters where I live as we pay pretty high prices for power as far as the US market is concerned and Im sure the power is even more pricey for our friends across the pond great video, I have a 9590 sitting in the next room perhaps I'll throw steam OS on it for giggles and mess around. AMD FX retails so high because some of their chips don't have telemetry built into them like all modern chips, they were the last series of chips not to have PSP (although some of the models did so you'll want to do your research first). Also you openly admitted that Linux was the better operating system for playing Tomb Raider but used a 2fps average to proclaim Windows the winner, my advice is to also record 1% and 10% lows which will show you which frame rate was actually more stable since that's generally what gamers actually care about...
