Are you considering building a dual socket CPU system? In this video, we'll dive into the advantages and disadvantages of opting for a dual socket CPU configuration. Whether you're a gamer, a content creator, or a professional in need of serious computational power, this video will help you make an informed decision.
Pros:
Extreme Processing Power: Dual socket CPU setups can deliver immense computational power, ideal for demanding tasks like 3D rendering, video editing, and scientific simulations.
Parallel Processing: Multithreaded applications benefit greatly from dual CPUs, as they can efficiently distribute tasks across multiple cores.
Server-Grade Reliability: Dual socket motherboards and CPUs are often built for 24/7 operation, offering increased durability and reliability.
Future-Proofing: With two CPU sockets, you have room for upgrades, extending the life of your system as new CPUs are released.
Virtualization: Dual CPU systems are excellent for running multiple virtual machines simultaneously, making them perfect for virtualization environments.
Cons:
Cost: Dual socket CPU builds are significantly more expensive than single CPU configurations due to the cost of additional CPUs, motherboards, and memory.
Power Consumption: These systems tend to be power-hungry, resulting in higher electricity bills and requiring more robust cooling solutions.
Complexity: Building and maintaining a dual socket system can be more complex, requiring more expertise and troubleshooting skills.
Software Compatibility: Not all software takes full advantage of dual CPUs, meaning you may not see a performance boost in all applications.
Limited Gaming Benefits: Most games are not optimized for dual CPUs, so the extra processing power may not significantly impact gaming performance.
Whether you're a professional looking for raw power or an enthusiast considering a dual socket CPU build for gaming, understanding the pros and cons is essential. Watch this video to get a comprehensive overview and make the right choice for your computing needs. Don't forget to like and subscribe for more tech insights and build guides!

Coming from a single Xeon 2696V3 build myself, it always crossed my mind to try a dual Xeon build, but at the end some Haswell quirks, the questionable quality of the boards and high power draw in idle with the Turbo boost unlock were enough downsides for me to bite the bullet and invest into a modern 14700KF instead. At least I got to re-use my DDR4-RAM and got a decent Z690 board for cheap. If there only were some more recent Xeon options available with decent but cheap boards, I'd be among the first to try that route again. But unfortunately, there are no such more modern options available right now.

I want an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X(threadripper: Server; Productivity CPU, for DAW) in a dual socket integration w/ an above mid CPU to match with a GPU that can handle up to 1440p Radeon RX 6800 XT or something like a: 3080/3090 (when I get into 4K resolution my costs increase exponentially.) Would be neat if the Dual Socket could switch/swap on or off on centred tasks.

Man I wanted an x99 so bad in the day. Now they're kind of...less relevant? I actually thought about getting one of the chinese boards and building an x99 not too long ago. Instead I picked up an open box 12th gen i3 dell for 100bucks. Upgraded to a 12500 from ebay for 50, popped in an m.2 and an rx6650xt and Im pretty happy, it does everything i need. Anyways...good vid-it was fun to watch👍
@RestoTek
@RestoTek Жыл бұрын
Thank you glad you enjoyed it, to be honest I think you made a pretty sound decision going that route and getting a 12th gen i3. Compatability is much better and far more efficent. If you wanted to though you could pick up an x99 motherboard, cheap ram and a couple of cpus to mess around with, they are pretty cheap to buy especially second hand!
@colestowing8695
@colestowing8695 Жыл бұрын
@@RestoTek i guess you missed the part where I upgraded it to i5😁. I would've went i7 but i heard the Dell bios limits power pretty hard. I just went with what i thought was a safe middle ground. But yeah... new stuff has really improved so fast. Im old enough that I was around before ryzen came out. Before then it was normal on Intel to get just a couple/few % ipc improvements each generation (and to get more cores you had to step up to high end- like x99, which was out of my price range. That's why I always wanted one...I couldn't afford one back then). We all owe AMD a big ty for shaking things up and driving progress forward. Oh and btw, good idea. I hadn't really thought about getting an x99 just to play with but I might just do that- now that the stuff is cheap. It would be neat to compare. Btw, I don't get to talk about this stuff that often so forgive me if I went on too long and got boring.
@RestoTek
@RestoTek Жыл бұрын
@colestowing8695 dude I could talk about this stuff all day lol, don't know what it is but messing around with PC Parts is allot of fun for me. For some reason I like older parts I guess it's because it's cheap for me to buy for my channel and It gives me allot of options to experiment without spending too much money. Sorry I missed when you mention an i5 that will pretty much run anything. I've got another video that I'm going to be working on soon, don't want to say too much now but a little odd ball setup 😆

sorry - but several of your "dont's" don't really add up - psu with dual eps: uhm - if you look at the class you typical use for such systems - anywhere above 750w - most of them come with dual eps rails - the hard part really is to find psu with more than 2 eps rails as most dual-xeon boards often require 3 or even 4 8-pin eps - although you can use adapters from pci-e to eps back when I was on the am3+ bulldozer platform my formula-z hat 8 + 4 eps - and my old corsair ax750 has 2x 8 eps - case with enough space: look no further than "full tower" - any full tower with enough space for a 4090 has enough space to fit e-atx boards - ram speeds: well, it's because JEDEC doesn't specify anything faster for ECC - and that's for stability - and that's the choice to be made: speed vs stability/reliability - why do you think an ibm z390 mainframe is two full racks with just the power of a high end gaming rig? it's because most of it can fail and yet still can serve your thousands of bank customers at the same time to me your list is way to personal and thereby not bias-free for a good information - it's just "yea, I did it - but I don't recommend it" "weird driver issues on chinese boards" - yea, because neither are these designed for windows client os nor should anyone run any windows on such a platform - it's meant for linux - if you even try to run windows on it it's your fault - RTFM! - you're doing it wrong!

I can only go off of my own experience. Tbh I had the general consumer in mind and the conclusion at the end of the video wasn't what I really thought. Tbh I really enjoyed my experience with a dual socket motherboard and it run far better than the i9 11900kf that I have at the moment. The dual socket boots faster and was surprisingly stable. But I tried to give a balanced view of the positives and some short coming for someone that might be inexperienced with dual socket builds. Appreciate the feedback and well do better next time

I'd stick with what you have at the moment, dual socket cpus will work together to act as a single cpu, either way they will still share resources between both cpus. So stick with what you have. Alternatively you could upgrade one pc with a better gpu with NVEC encoding like a nvidia rtx and that way you would get no impact on gaming performance with streaming
