This comment comes from a letter written in April 12, 1840 written by a student of Nickolas Forkel (who was himself a student of Wilhelm Friedemann Bach the son and student of JS Bach) named Friedrich Griepenkerl (himself famous for being the first person to publish the complete collected organ works of JS Bach. Quoting from this important letter: "Bach himself, his sons, and Forkel played the masterpieces with such a profound declamation that they sounded like polyphonic songs sung by individual great Artist singers. Thereby, all means of good singing were brought into use. No Cercare, No Portamento was missing, even breathing was in all the right places. Bach's music wants to be sung with the maximum of art". Of course we have Bach suggesting in the preface of the inventions that above all to inculcate a "cantabile" style of playing. Imagine if you can how much more beautiful and touching this performance would have been had you both sung your parts like individual great artist singers, both expressing the affects of the individual voices independent of the other?

Hello Polina Osetinskaya! Chopin? If Mozart - who is that? - lived in a lonely house and there was only a piano there, what would he play to dream? Chopin? Yes, Chopin! And if Mozart could no longer play the piano because he was deeply sad and had been harmed, then he would watch a video of you playing Chopin (or perhaps, if he wasn't in the mood for Chopin: Bach Piano Concerto No. 1). But the eye also wants to get something out of the music, so it asks the ears: Tell me, can you see who's playing there? And then the eye explains to the ears, which can't see anything, that it's a beautiful woman who is completely devoted to the music. Ah, say the ears, that sounds good. I don't know, says the eye (the left one, the right one sees nothing because the person who owns the eyes is squinting), but sometimes I think I see light. - Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I've listened to a good number of performances of by now, and I really like this slower tempo than what I've heard before. Polina is a very fine pianist, and this is just a beautiful playing of this Bach piece! Of the ones I've heard, I think this is the most sensitive performance I've heard. It's at a slightly slower tempo than most of the others I've heard - but I like the fuller trills this affords.

To my favorite pianist, whom I owe for all the free hours I have spent enjoying listening to you play, if you are reading this, as an American (living in Africa), I wish I could sit down with you and explain to you how many Americans love and respect your President, Putin. There are, in fact, many Americans who would like to even move to Russia because of him, but they have no way to do it, now. From many Americans' perspective, he is a great leader, a genius, and a good man who loves his country and wants the best for his people. I thought it could lighten your heart and give you back your pride as a Russian to know this, if you don't already know. I wonder, Polina, if you have listened to many of Putin's speeches where he quotes Solzhenitsyn and agrees with him? The aggressor in this war is not Russia, but the U.S.A. Did you hear his interview with Tucker Carlson? NATO is the aggressor in this war. Putin is merely doing his duty to protect the sovereignty of your country. Please listen to me. I beg you. The war in Ukraine is not between Ukraine and Russia. Ukraine is the battlefield of a war between the U.S. and Russia. There are evil political forces in this world today trying to break down the sovereigty of individual nation states in order to create a New World Order. They are creating divisions within countries and creating wars in order to weaken individual countries so they can build a new world order with one central government in the whole world. More and more people are beginning to see this now, so that it is becoming mainstream news. It is the stuff of dystopian novels like George Orwell's "1984" (please do not read if you are feeling down). It breaks my heart to see the unhappiness this situation is causing for you, because you have given so much joy and happiness to me through the exquisite beauty of your playing. Ahhh, with what true Russian pathos you play! How dry and boring the world would be without Russia! Please, I agree with your friends. Don't get involved in politics, now. I fear it will needlessly destroy your life. I think it is admirable that you are willing to sacrifice so much for what you believe to be true, but the world is a very complicated place today. Even leaders are having a difficult time figuring out what to do! What seems good is sometimes bad, and bad, good. I say, just pray, and play what you want to play and try not to worry about anything. If you can do this, you will be a true hero, and I firmly believe it is the best way you can give to the world right now. We are all suffering so much stress. Your music is such a soothing blessing, and you have shared it so generously with those of us who aren't able to come to your concerts. How will you be able to do this if you are in prison? It would cause such grief, because your music deeply touches many people's hearts. They would feel the loss. And I don't believe it would do any good. You are still young (I am an old lady of 63!), and you have many more beautiful notes to play. I hope you will consider my words. God bless you and all you love. Take care.
