My only reason for desire to move back is loneliness! As a introvert and being 40+, it is difficult to make friends. I can go out drive in my fancy car but am back to my home feeling more lonely than before stepping out.

These days, life is tough every where. To a large extent i,t depends on the person how easy or tough one can make out of every given situation. There are lot of good things in US and so are in India. Equally, there are lot of issues and concerns in US and so are in India. One has to take one's own call depending on what kind of a person and personality you are.

I have travelled to US for more than 15 times and I am working in India for the past 30 years. NRI in US can survive only if they continue to upgrade skills every 4 years, else they will lose job anytime irrespective of green card holder or citizenship. What is the use of having citizenship when you don’t have job or salary to survive. One big health issue or crime will make you debt trapped.

Even with a large wealth, you can change very limited world around you - so we look for a world we feel more comfortable to live in. We may love our country of childhood because of nostalgia, but when we see the stark reality, it's worse than what we had, and unfortunately, we are not changing very soon either. A very grim truth about all my friends and relatives settled in USA, none could have achieved the material success in India what they have in USA..for common, average people India is difficult place to achieve , may be easier to survive (?)

I don't agree with Desi's bringing each other down. It's just a human thing everywhere around. People go to any lengths to support each other if they gel well and have similarities they identify with, let be caste, language or as simple as hating the same football team.

I may have missed something, but you may be conflating NRIs with OCIs. The level of complication increases dramatically for OCIs because of issues like double taxation. This is made worse for seniors like me who are covered by Medicare in the US, and will have nothing in India. I suspect that two decisions can encourage people (definitely retirees, for sure) to move back. One is to eliminate double taxation, and two, let Indian hospitals accept Medicare, and possibly private US health insurance. This will have the added benefit of turning India into a real medical tourism destination. It's easy to see what a win-win-win situation this could be - win for the US by bringing down health care costs, win for India by getting additional health care revenue, and a win for the people who choose to return. This is a two way street here. If India wants NRIs/OCIs to return, India must meet them halfway and not just play on cheap emotional tactics.

Having worked for both Amazon and Google, I can vouch for the false sense of ego that some Indians tend to display, often stemming from associating their self-worth too closely with the prestige of the organization rather than focusing on personal growth and contributions.

You get to meet friends in the weekend. In India managers will give you homework and you will be working 10 hrs instead of 8 hrs excluding travelling without overtime pay. And you have leaders saying that Indians should work 70 or 90 hrs a week is not a good sign.

She describes the desi American obsession with status and achievement to a T. Incredibly toxic culture. You can meet amazing people in "relatively unknown companies"? Um, do you realize the incredible hard work it takes to build an unknown company from scratch and make it profitable? Being an entrepreneur of any kind is not easy. Desis in the US need to get out of their elitist and closed bubbles! In America, extremely successful people in a myriad number of professions come from all kinds of backgrounds and attend all types of schools. You do not need an Ivy League degree to make it here! And there is for sure dignity of labor here - something which is not at all valued by fellow desis. Americans are incredibly proud to be teachers, social workers, nurses, lilbrarians etc. Enough said.

Typical Indian behavior that i noticed mulitple times abroad whether U.S or Germany. Never gave in to that BS. Rat race, Jealousy, Insecurity, Belittling other Indians. Result for them: Stressed out Personal and Professional life, lack of fulfillment, Poor health in the long run. Even now, Indians are rushing for C-Sections to secure the U.S Citizenship despite being successful in their careers in the U.S which springs out of the mentality to grab all and enjoy nothing.

Please do not push your reality (your personal struggle ) as the truth. If you couldn’t cope with the amount of things to do you set for yourself..that is on you. I as an NRI have a very comfortable and happy life. There is absolutely no dark reality ..I have lived in India for the major part and that is in fact darker if we compare..or may be to each their own. You really need to find another business rather than misguiding

@srisivaraman80634 күн бұрын
It's simple. NRI are playing it safe and say they will go back when they don't have a GC. If they lose their job they would be able to save face and go back. If they don't which is most likely they would stay back. No confusion. If they are confused the ratio would be 1:1

USA is heaven when you are fresh graduate and young to explore the world that is in the age range 21-27.... career and hanging out is all that one needs in this age range Age of 27-35 is when the mind begins to get serious about life - marriage, house, children and children's education becomes priority... this is where culture and stability begins to play an important role ... India suddenly seems better at this age range 35+ Yrs health issues begin to kick in - at this age all that you need is quickest access to top healthcare, convenience of quick commerce, helping hands in the form of maids and others are the need of the moment .... India becomes HEAVEN at this age range.. On top of the above - no epidemic, gender identity, gun violence etc. is not present in India. Cherry on the cake - low cost wifi/ data and best of the rest free digital infrastructure is what makes India the BEST in the world...

You have multicrore apartment but the view from the high rise could be slums, you step out and you are sure to hit a slum in a radius of 3 kms from your place, dogs roam freely and bark the crap out at night, constant noise pollution honking by vehicles, loud TV commercials will make U deaf early plus give you high blood pressure and dont forget the humble mosquito that can kill you if its your unlucky day, plus spit all over the road, filthy streets etc etc list goes on

I have been here in the US for the last 13 years and I am already planning to go back to India. I don't want my kid to grow up in this toxic woke school culture here. I have seen how so many Indian kids behave who grew up here. I know many people here whose kids already grew up here. They all wish they had gone back when there was time. Secondly, I think the American dream will be over in 5-8 years with the huge decline in dollar values. I know so many would troll me for this. But wait and watch the decline of the US economy and its education system.

USA or any other developed country is the best country to live in. I get chills based on the fact that one day I need to move back to India. Don't get me wrong, I love my country because only because of 3 things, our Values, Family and Food. We Indians are screwed, mismanagement, corrupt politicians, uncivic people and stereotypical and judgemental society is rampant, and worst part is we are NOT ready to admit. One need to live in west to see our faults (I am part of that fault). We are what we become, ultimately country becomes what their citizen aspire to become. Majority of India all 4 major religions are having more discussions on gods, faiths, and daily digging reasons why our religion is true/great than the rest. We have not seen the level or scale of development that other nations have achieved to even start dreaming that big. But we need to at least aspire from the world what they are doing. Since I am a hindu I will take privilege in ciritzing it, we, as hindus need to rethink our practices, reconsider things that we do are still relevant to our current days and standards and reshare our faith accordingly, it takes big brave heart to admit our faults, and failure in management, and unscientific practices. Examples, Fireworks during Diwali, - yes other countries also do celebrate, BUT in a limited scale and usually at a public mass gathering with proper rules, regulation and standards. However, we would like to take it in our own hands for celebration and often market is unregulated. Beef - I get the sentiment, and I can not argue with the faith, I myself won't eat. However, where are your morals when a Cow is injected with chemicals for increase in productivity? and did you ask what farmers do to those cows after the milking cycle end for a cow? Holy water - Again, I can't argue faith, but just imagine, did anyone ask why can't govt spend some proportion of the money towards development of our country and advance the infrastructure will add so much value to the market? Caste system - Let's just admit that's an historical event and practices as a form to implement a ruling towards citizens, which is more than obsolete in our current society? Integrating Caste into Hinduism is such a shame for us. Let's all stop this nonsense. there is no practical use. Talking anything against will immediately spark religion debate, it ends the real conversation. There are MANY more to my examples, questioning our practices will only make it relevant in our society and keep us advanced than our peers.

I have lived in the Middle East for many years especially GCC countries these GCC countries get the US, the UK and Schengen visa very easily compare to Indians. Most of these GCC arabs are dual passport holders either they have the US or UK passport but still they work in their own country because they get better pay. Majority of these arabs travel to Europe and the US during their summers for pleasure trip and return not like us who settle down over there
