The debate has raged on for decades as to which member of "The Supremes" had the best voice. It really comes down to personal preference Simply put, they were all fine singers with their own unique qualities and attributes that set them apart from each other Flo: She had the strongest projection and range in her voice and could use it in a dramatic way which she did when providing background vocals. "Let Me Go The Right Way" is the most obvious example of this Mary: She was the one with the low, smokey range which stood in contrast to her fellow members. It provided a nice counterbalance and gave the group a fuller sound. It was sultry and seductive but really came into its own in the 70's after Ross and Ballard were gone from the group. Diana: She was the one who has the most "commercial sounding" voice hence why she was selected to be the lead singer. Her light and airy tone provided the group with the much needed "crossover" appeal with white audiences. As a result, she stood out from her fellow members and Berry Gordy capitalized on this to make the group the success it became.

This is the first time that I am really hearing Florence's voice. Diana Ross was always featured probably because she had a relationship with Berry Gordy. After Florence was not with the Supremes anymore, Diana went solo the Supremes got a new lead singer, Jeanne Terrell, and they had a hit with "Up the Ladder to the Roof." Then they faded away and Florence's life was very hard and unfortunate afterwards. She had a heart attack at 32 and died.
