We were so screwed by the judges. The entire season was a fight to get a little respect from the judges And DCI. They had no intention of given it to us. Politics in DCI...[?].., give me a break!

Back when we still had Real Drum and bugle c o r p s. In my opinion, DCI is the reason for the demise of what was one of the greatest youth activities in North America. Former member of the, Long Island sunrises

Back when snare drums sounded like snare drums versus cardboard boxes. And played many real rudiments, rather than a bunch of Rim shots and juggling, with very very few rudiments in the drum lines of today. Also also patriotic music and respect and salute to the American flag. Today most of the organizations are Marching bands, they are woke, they wear costumes and makeup Electronics PA systems singing dancing and prancing . We no longer have real drum and bugle c o r p s. In my opinion, DCI has turned the activity into a marching band competition, superimposed on a three-ring circus parrot with all sorts of props and costumes rather than uniforms. It costs a arm and a leg to be a member. Plus they have price themselves out of business that's why there are very few, drum and bugle cops, today. Former member of the Long Island sunrises😮😢😅❤❤

3 members of the 1984 Blue Devils aged out with this corps...Rob Norment (cymbals in BD, guard here), John Hendrickson (soprano...La Fiesta opening trio in BD, sop solo here at 6:37 and the sop quartet at the end )and Tim Spilde (mellophone...ori9ginally a Scout, followed his girlfriend to BD, then back home to age out). Great guys, al;l of them.

my second year as a dci fan....NS was such a great corps to watch and the drum line was critical success......I was actually thinking about this corps today and what fun my buddies and I had traveling throughout the high school summers going to DC shows!!! DCI is a great organization for kids.

Two corps combined and produced this really fresh look and sound out of Toronto. I played snare in my high school band that year and this was the line we looked up to, not SCV.

This is the KILTIES, and when i went to drum corps shows I knew what i was getting from each corps. In 2024 I am learning to get "used to current corps" they're playing some thing that is not necessarily what I would expect from that corps by honoring their name and style......... Still today's corps evolved from this element of presentation. I miss the old days....Blessings to the future of drum corps..It will be just fine.. TY for this post..I have heard it more than once...Good to hear Kilties in 1982...Oh god I miss the Kilties playing Auld Lang Syne.....

Oh how I wish this was still DCI! Please! Someone, somewhere, bring back the good old days of Drum Corp. Today’s shows just can’t touch the excitement of the 70’s-80’s into the mid 90’s.

Can someone here say who taught percussion this year? I’ve hit a dead end researching who taught percussion for the Kilts in the 1970s. Some years it was Tom Sorensen, but I know he taught Pioneer (“The Thing”) this year.

Uniforms, an appropriately sized pit, G horns(which sound better outside), complete pieces of music, GE off the charts, emotion off the charts, drill movement that stirs the imagination, beauty, and intense power. One of the best shows ever. 40 years later and it still brings me to tears.

Considering how no DCI group has any consistent identification through uniforms anymore, it's about time someone donned the Scottish Highland plad for a DCI field performance, not to identify as the Kilties, but as a single-season production. Fans would love it.

It’s hard to imagine the reaction back then compared to now. They are clearly fantastic technically these days but in my last few visits to Indy, they just leave you….in your seat. Every corps in 2022 got a standing ovation apart from BD. I’d love to go back and have some of this…..it’s just brilliant!
