I use plane white sugar, anything other than that can cause health issues.. I have three 24oz feeders and fill them every day. Clean out the container every refill including the flowers and inside the base. If mold and fungus grow in the feeder, the fungus can infect the hummingbird's tongue and make it swell up causing the condition known as Hummers Candidiasis.

Do hummingbirds eat solid foods or only liquid? There’s a hummingbird nest with 2 eggs that hatched. I kind of want to feed it when the parents are not on the next or sitting on. They may not sit on the nest anymore bc they’ve hatched. I tried to give it some crushed cereal and they both opened their mouths. But I didn’t want to hurt them, so I stopped and it was very little and maybe 2 to 3 crumbs fit into their mouths. Why I’m on KZbin to know if that’s ok and don’t want to hurt them and won’t do anymore.

Hi. I have never been to Alaska. But once to Canada yes. I live in Finland, so i have not seen those hummingbirds, except in a Natural History museum in Helsinki maybe. They are very cute. I love the feeling, when a small bird like great tit or blue tit or a nuthatch comes to take a seed or nut from my hand. ❤️

Nice video, but red nectar is toxic to hummingbirds. It's better to get a red feeder and clear nectar or make it yourself by mixing 1 part sugar with 4 parts boiled water.

Do not feed the Hummingbirds red dye. The red dye causes kidney damage then ultimately kills them. Make the nectar yourself with sugar and water. One part sugar to 4 parts water. Combine the two together in a saucepan, bring to a boil, boil for a minute or two, let cool, add to clean hummingbird feeder, change every few days according to temperature charts. Beware not to allow bacteria to contaminate and grow in your feeders. The beaks of the hummingbirds if become infected, their tongues will stick out. Being unable to eat, they starve to death. I wash my feeders in the dishwasher every other day.
