I lost my rio 250 grain skagit and 95 grain sink tip around a rock, I was loving the setup and thought I was done. I how ever had a spare 275 grain opst skagit and 168 grain T14 it handled it with a we bit of a slow down in casting action, This blew me away, I fished a whole week on the Tongariro river catching many fish up to the 5 lb range. Thanks for the heads up on a great we rod. Appreciate your work

I think the lift give a beginning tension to the line,once the leader get straight and the fly almost out of the water,change the angle of lift and the sweep could be started .And take a little upward angle with the lift.

Excellent response! Thanks
@tomdemianvingsgard45327 күн бұрын
Going from lift into sweep its easy to accelerate(too much), and once you do you cant stop. Trying to keep calm in the transition phase makes you in control. Thats an anxiety cast, one needs to keep calm during transition...

Tim towards the end of that session I noticed your reel was hanging down. I find that having the reel pointing in the direction of whatever move you are making to be very helpful. I orientate my feet first and then my reel. There was a group of casts in the middle there where your reel was pointing forwards and the line was snapping up onto the spool when the cast went out. They were nice!!!

Would be interesting to test this rod back to back with #7 12'7" Nam Original I've had for few years now. Used to do similar thing with 350gr Vision Hybrid and 140gr tips, Vision calls "scandi" way of building their Hybrid line for 7wt. But there's long tradition of abusing skagit heads for scandi line body in Finland at least. Anyways, with 12'7" Nam intentionally went after lighter feel 7wt to be used for sea trout run rather than salmon so it doesn't exactly shine when used with heavy line and pushed hard. So in search for a feel the rod was intended for I got 440gr Scandi Launch from Rio just this week and finally feel I found a perfect line for the rod. I was bit blown away how it loads the rod with very shallow D-loop yet lets the rod recover fast and feel feather light and effortless to cast. Now I'm thinking if InTouch Scandi 3D is close enough or if Rio will eventually update the sinking scandi heads to Elite series.. I just need a F/H/I for some places. One Ren rod I've been looking at for a while is #6 11'6" Switch for more active fishing methods, upstream casts, stripping streamers etc. Basically I want rod that's as close to 8wt 9'6" but is a doublehander to save my wrist. Somehow singlehand spey casting with 300gr shooting head is much harder on wrist than overhead casting a 10wt overlined two sizes for pike. Btw can't be repeated often enough about Nam is if you break the rod, they only need a photo of the damaged section, rod label and receipt and they'll ship you replacement section anywhere in the world. No registration BS, you can buy used Nam and as long as you get copy of the receipt with it you're covered. Of course there's a fee but if I'm on a trip I can possibly get the rod back in use in just few days. Not that I break rods a lot but accidents happen.

Have not tried that one yet. The Gaeforce Equalizer shooting head, it’s about 38 feet is my favorite line in that category… A tad on the long side for a Scandi head but so fun to cast and fish!

I dug my 150grain scout out days ago,attached to a 5wt RIO replacent tip which is 55grains 10ft ,cast very nice,farther than 60ft easily and wholy get straight,but I can't observe the loop shape because of the black tip color,I concern that if the tip is too heavy or too light ,or just I do a low-stop posotion cast. Do you have any good ways to estimate it?
@LineSpeedJediTimRawlins20 күн бұрын
Not always easy to tell in real time. If it flies straight, turns over and lands in a straight line your golden! Keep everything smooth always!
@loomi4719 күн бұрын
@@LineSpeedJediTimRawlins I took a slow-mo video today. Maybe the replacement tip is a little bit light for the head and the fly is a little bit light for the tip,so much power go through and torque the end of line,loop shape always tight at first,and the fly goes high,cause the loop shape seem to be wide or open.

All i care about is catching Steelhead. im not casting to fish a football feild away. i seek accuracy & smooth effeciancy not distance. Im a Spey fisherman not a Spey caster. I think like a bow hunter not a magum rife hunter. If i cant reach the seam far away ill cross the river or get in my kayak.

I really need to study Roberts videos on this exercise and use yours for supplemental. Could you explain "break the rod" for me? It's still abstract to me. Bottom hand pull, top hand guide is what I practice even though I know it takes a conscious effort. I need guidance and have always heard you say break the rod and it's something I want to understand.

The lift also frees up the arms and micro mobilizes the line rigght before take off. It also accomodates more harmoneous first part of the forward cast to become straighter and not so much banana, so even less chance of making that ugly pig tail. Aired my 2 weight rod tonight, so at thi time we are at different poles😂
@LineSpeedJediTimRawlins25 күн бұрын

SAGE, 279 light line, I didnt use it for nearly 20 years. Never figured it out, but since taking fly fishing up again, I have extended my throw not to "kill" the weak top...Now I found the soul if it....
@tomdemianvingsgard453225 күн бұрын
I fish where water is at max 3 feet and I get many more takes with ultra light gear compared to a 5 weight, so many are so concerned about the leader. My thinking is that the line scaring fish is overlooked. But if you have to man handle away from water lillies, well thats tough. Down in line size and up in leader thickness is the way to go in shallow water.

Happy birthday America !! Thank you!! why in the box? Other instructors indicate left, center or right never up too high or too low. Either one ,I think it’s confusing for beginners because they can’t understand the rod butt most efficient angles position work, and from there find the right …tempo, arc, stroke casting plane and the amount of effort is needed to make the system work effortlessly, exactly like you are demonstrating
