It's a shame baby Agate's ear can't get stitched up. I wonder if it affects her hearing and makes her more vulnerable to predators on that side.💖🐇💝💞

Agate’s ear tear hasn't seem to affect her hearing. I think it helped that it happened while she was so young so she adapted. You’ve seen her as an adult in my Shorts…she’s fine. Her encounter with whatever tried to get her only made her more savvy. And fun! She’s the most interactive and friendly of our new mamas this year. And my favorite bunny born last year. I gave her special attention when she was young because of her ear and she flourished into the fun-loving mama you see today 🥰

Thank you! We’ve had to help many injured bunnies recover because we’re in a rural area with predators. While it can be hard and heartbreaking at times, we adore these vulnerable, innocent, sweet, and intelligent creatures and try to do everything we can to protect and nurture them. We love them like they’re pets, but respect their wildness, which helps keep them safer. We feel our yard is theirs and make efforts to give them the best lives possible. It’s also my intention to keep this channel’s content light and fun, but Peanut is such an important part of it that I felt I needed to continue telling her story. Thank goodness it’s still being written and is actually quite incredible!

recorded 5.12.2024. Mama Peanut is already looking and moving better. Here she's eating blackberry and dandelion and then returns to her shelter hole; a dry, covered nest where Ruby wintered. (this is from a month ago and she's continuing to improve 🥰) Sometime between 4.21.2024 and 4.29.2024 our beloved Peanut got severely injured. When I saw her on 4.29 I didn't know if she was going to make it. But she’s so strong and such a fighter. We’re so glad she hasn’t given up! We bring her fresh fruit and greens throughout the day and she's already improved a great deal. She's brought us immense joy these past 2 years and we’re hoping she’ll be around for many more. We love her dearly. Please know and trust that we are helping her as much as we can and trying to do what's best for her. Wild mama bunny Peanut is the current star of this channel. All the other bunnies featured in these shorts (Agate, Butters, Ruby, and Topaz) are her babies from last year. They are beginning to be mamas themselves now! Peanut is a grandma!! Really like something from an enchanted wood. Baby Emerald has gorgeous colourings with the ginger on her neck and the darker, smokey coloured fur near her tail. Her half siblings are so gentle too, no aggression over territory either.

It’s funny, Ruby actually stopped liking apple treats a while back. Even if I toss a slice to her (vs trying to handfeed) she won’t eat it now. She’s pretty much the only bunny here who doesn’t like apple! I’ve tried tossing her fresh salmonberries too, but she’s not interested. She prefers dandelion, yarrow, and grasses. I love how they each have their own personalities and tastes and Ruby’s is definitely distinct 🥰

I don't know if it's universal, but here we make wishes before blowing dandelion seed heads. So I like to think of our bunnies making wishes as they eat the dandy seeds. recorded 5.10.2024. Ruby is once again pursued by the same suitor. Possibly because she'd recently given birth! Videos of her 8 adorable babies coming soon. Meanwhile, she outwits the suitor by going onto the logs and hiding behind him. Watch her leap! The logs are from a dead Alder tree we had to take down. They were put in the middle of our "lawn," which has now become our largest meadow. Our bunnies love to hop on and graze from them so we left them. Ruby is a sweet and sensitive bunny born here last summer. She's now all grown up and our newest mama! To 8 adorable kits!! Stay tuned. recorded 5.7.2024. We're in front of Agate's home in the giant Maple tree and she plays peek-a-boo with me. It was much more amusing in person, but hopefully some of her playful spirit comes across in this Short. Agate is young at heart and a joy to hang out with. Agate was born to mama Peanut here last June and never left. Her left ear was severely torn when she was young, but healed well. She lives in a large pile of brush and fallen tree debris under a giant big-leaf Maple tree. She's also a goofball and a whole lot of fun. And she's a mama herself now! Talk to a wildlife vet or at least ask a wildlife rehabilitation specialist where to get Peanut help. She probably fought off a predator, but she is very vulnerable. I would bring her inside if she doesn’t improve soon.

We have a large covered and chickenwire-enclosed outdoor shelter ready for her, but she’s improved to the point where it would be harmful to keep her confined. She knows all the best hiding spots (and even kicked out another rabbit for the one she’s mostly using) and is mobile enough to use them. We brought her all the greens she could eat (and seed and fruit), but now she’s able to forage for herself again. Although, we are still supplementing her diet so she can spend more energy healing and recovering. I appreciate your concern. Please just send her good thoughts and love and know that she’s getting the best care. And that she’s improving! Or I wouldn’t have posted this video that’s nearly a month old. I plan to share her progress because she’s amazing!

What happened to her, do you know? Could you get a vet to visit or take her to the vet for some help? It's heartbreaking that she's ill.

We don't know for sure, but it seems like she was attacked and while she was escaping, something grabbed her left foot and broke it. She's been non-weightbearing on it from the beginning (I’m a physical therapist), but over the last few weeks she removed injured tissue and is able to put some pressure on the stump that’s left. She’s so strong! We believe taking her to a vet would’ve been catastrophic. We felt we had enough resources (food, shelter, etc.) here to give her the best care. And she’s improving! Or I wouldn’t have posted this video that’s nearly a month old. I plan to share her progress because she’s amazing! But she’s still healing and could use some good thoughts and love.

This is Butters (Peanut's her mama...the "related video" is of Peanut nursing Butters...YT shouldn't put that above the Short title IMO 😉 I saw Butters’ face up close yesterday and now that’s she’s fully molted, her scars are more visible. It's been 3 months and her face, I believe, is completely healed. And yes, the scars around her eye and lack of eyelashes make her look startled. But she still often is…I saw a tiny baby bunny spook her yesterday 😂

@@K-bq3lv There’s a lot of bunny names to keep track of! But I named Butters in honor of Peanut, because she was from her last litter last year. And, as you’ve seen, Peanut now has an injured leg, so reading your comment brought a tear to my eye until I realized you were talking about Butters. Peanut’s trademark was standing tall on her hindlegs (I believe you called it her Peter Rabbit pose) so it does break my heart that she may not be able to stand as tall again. But she's full of surprises and so very, very strong.

@@wildbunnywhisperer can anything be done for Peanut and her leg? Maybe she has an infection that might clear with cleaning and care? Or has her leg been broken? I hope nobody is using traps around the area. That would be too horrible to contemplate. It would bring torrents of tears to my eyes also. 💞🐇💝❤️

Please trust me when I say we are doing all we can and what we feel is best for Peanut. We absolutely adore her like a beloved pet. But she’s a wild animal who is easily stressed by human contact. She’s doing a great job of keeping her wound clean and is healing well. And no, there are no traps around. We’re fairly sure it was a predator and we’re so grateful she escaped.

She was was in a tussle and got a deep wound on her face this past March. It looked pretty bad, but she's healed well! She's our brave little Butters. recorded 5.11.2024. Tricky Topaz plays the best trick yet...gifting us baby bunnies! This is mama Topaz and baby Turnip, who looks to be about 3 weeks old. Caught this sweet moment between mama and baby the day before Mother's Day. I kept my distance so as not to disturb them. I'm mixing up the chronology of these Shorts a bit so I can add in some baby bunny videos because there are lots! Topaz was born last summer to mama Peanut. She, along with her sisters Ruby and Agate, spent all winter here and are beginning to be mamas themselves! I call her tricky Topaz because she's often tricked me into thinking she’s someone else. She even uses other bunnies' homes/territories like Butters’ hideout and Agate’s Maple tree fortress. But now she’s more brown than the others (another trick...her distinct coloring now matches her name!) and she's become friendlier so she's easier to identify.
