Now this is nice, cruising along in a fabulous Rolls Royce, with the rear view of a Citroen ahead of you! Pure elegance in motoring. The interior is so understated and elegant as well. Love the color of the hides and the wooden dashboard is a work of art on its own. The wood trim is amazing. When I see a car without it, or the cheap version of it on new vehicles, it turns my stomach. LOL. So I missed hearing, is the original color Silver Mink?

Excellent, that was a nice drive. What a charming couple they are. Paul, congratulations on getting through the "red tape" on importation. It's a beautful example and color combination. I have only seen one of these in my city (Washington, DC). A question: Why is the driver's side windshield wiper not flush against the glass?

Thank you very much for the comment, a shame that they're not so prevalent in the USA but I heard they suffered from a limited support network, particularly for the suspension. I'm hoping Paul gets a minute from cruising around in the sun to check in & reply on the wiper 😉

How much lowered the car is with the MeisterR Zeta CRD Coilovers? Did you end up reducing the lowering as mentioned in the video? I'm considering getting this Coilover and I'm sure it will improve handling but I'm wondering how is your experience with daily driving comfort? I'm looking to get the BBR super 200 but without the BBR centre section and exhaust. Do you think that would make the car too loud for daily driving and motorway ?
@NightfallDrives
@NightfallDrives 15 күн бұрын
Originally at the time of the video, the ride height was around 325mm all round and too low in my opinion. I’ve since set it to 340mm and it seems to be a good compromise (only occasionally I scrape the chassis brace on particularly large square block style speed bumps). The stock height is 360mm I believe. In terms of comfort, with the dampers in a road setting, it’s noticeably better & more controlled than stock (although I’m comparing to stock parts taken off after 80k miles!). You then obviously have the option of changing the settings for faster driving. If you’re upgrading to the BBR manifold and keeping the rest of the exhaust stock, I think you’ll end up slightly quieter than mine, which is fine for everyday use & long trips. The BBR manifold and ECU tune really bring the car to life in terms of the torque curve and the exhaust tone. Hope you enjoy whatever mods you go for 👍
@sayanpal9491
@sayanpal9491 15 күн бұрын
@@NightfallDrives : Thank you. I'm thinking of going with 15mm lowering as with 20mm lowering, you still scape the chasis braces. Is that the stock chasis brace or something aftermarket. I had 35 mm lowering spring in old car and always had to be worried of speedbumps.My Mx5 is 78+, so it will definitely be an upgrade. How difficult is it to modify the settings of the dampers? Can this be done at home or need to visit a garage? I have cobalt exhaust already in the car, which is a bit louder than OEM. I do not see the value of the BBR exhaust setup (in terms of performance gains) and only go for the manifold and hot cams (Super 200). I'm just worried about making it too loud for everyday use & long trips (lesson learned from modifying my previous car) . Do you have any droning at motorway speeds with your setup?
@NightfallDrives
@NightfallDrives 14 күн бұрын
I do have aftermarket chassis braces, so there is very slightly less clearance than standard. The damper stiffness is adjustable fairly easily, especially if you fit an upgraded front chassis brace with access to the dials. Ride height and spring preload are also adjustable but take a bit of work, which is why I recommend getting it right first time when fitting by using an experienced place. I imagine your back box will result in something a bit too loud when combined with the manifold, but the only way to know is finding someone with that setup. The full BBR system isn’t good value in terms of power gains, but it did mean I knew I was getting an exhaust setup which had been tried & tested as a whole. I really like the tone. There’s a little bit of drone between 2.6k and 2.9k rpm, but it's only a concern when sitting on a busy motorway for a bit (at which point you can choose 5th or 6th to eliminate it).
@sayanpal9491

@@NightfallDrives : Thank you again. I don't have a upgraded upper brace but planning to get one at the same time. Do you have recommendations for the upper brace and any specialist in the south east for the coilover fitting and alignment.
@NightfallDrives
@NightfallDrives 12 күн бұрын
For the upper brace I think you can go with whatever looks best for your car, they’ll all be similar in my opinion. I’m afraid I’m not familiar with any specialists down that way, but the MX5OC forum has regional sections you could try 👍

Thoroughly enjoyed watching this video and can definitely relate. Beautiful car! I've owned four Sevens, three Lotus and one Caterham. Two of the Lotus cars were early BMC powered and my current Seven is a 63 non-crossflow 1500 with dual Webers. I mentioned I can relate to this owner. This is the third time I've owned my current Seven. I bought it in 1994, sold it in 1996 and bought it back in 2009. Sold it again in 2013 and repurchased it last year. The last owner made many improvements and it's a much better car than when I sold it. Sevens are not for everyone but at 78, I'm still enjoying it. Thanks again for the feature. Very fun to watch.

Brilliant! Really enjoyed this as it took me back to, I think about 1963, when my father bought an ID 19, the cheaper version of the DS 21, and which had the fibreglass roof. It was white with blue upholstery. I remember it was a most comfortable car. Unfortunately after only having it for a few weeks in the UK a lorry hit the offside front wing which was a write off but within a week or so a new wing was aquired and simply bolted on, the car being as good as new again. The car was shipped to Hong Kong where my father had it for a couple of years but because the local agents did not have the expertise to service the hydraulic suspension, allowing dirt to get into it, he eventually, reluctantly, sold the car. Changing a wheel was simplicity itself using the suspension to lift the car then putting the jack in place and then lowering the car which raised the wheel. No human exertion required! It was a superb car well ahead of it's time.

What can be expected for regular maintenence on these cars ? Does it need to be repaired and get replacement parts very often? I had someone tell me that it needs to be repaired after every road trip. It was also said that they should only be used on nice days and not in the winter. I am thinking of buying one and would only use it a couple times a week to go like 2 miles and occassionaly for like 10 mile drives. Thanks !

Hopefully someone regularly using a TR7 can comment; James hasn't done big miles in the restored TR7 just yet for various reasons. However, with a bit of care (e.g. avoiding driving on salty roads in the winter) I would expect a bit of regular use actually helps keep these running well, like any other car of the era. Did this person say what exactly needed repairing so often?

I purchased my car in Edmonton in 1963 for $650., and I believe it was brought to Canada by an armed forces person. My 1946 racer would do over 90 and do it safely. Fact. Sadly long gone. The video makes me want to get another or another MG TD MK II. . Unfortunately here in the states the majority of the TCs have had the wrong owner. We call them DPO... Dreaded Previous Owner. Clueless. Example MG TD MK II which I was intending to buy last year until I saw it. All the wood replaced incorrectly, doors won't shut. 5 speed Ford gearbox with a wooden gear box tunnel. Hideous taxi cab yellow. On and on. Criminal.

Loved my TR in 80's. First car, did my driving test in it. Take it on motorway 70 plus the steering goes very light, it's trying to take off. Carbs suffered carb icing and got stuck at 70. I managed to use gears and clutch to control speed to slow it down. Need to strip gearbox, have a fibre gear pump, with swarf in it. I would bang my head on those bonnet hooks.

Just watched the JayEmm video on this. I was surprised to see his reaction to the NA 2.4i 5 cyl. I own an S60 with the same engine myself, and I've found that there isn't enough love for this specific engine on these Volvos. Most people buy the T5s or Rs (S60R in my case). I'm curious to see how your resonator delete will sound. I've opted for a high flow cat + aftermarket muffler and mine sounds excellent. Only issue is that it's a little droney, which is making me consider changing the muffler out with a Borla XR-1 now as I've heard those are best to reduce drone. I've kept my stock resonator though as I've heard that on these 2.4 NA you shouldn't remove them. I think the C30 has a different manifold though so YMMV :) Awesome car, I'm hoping JayEmm will take an S60 with the same engine out for a spin now HAHA

This engine is definitely a gem, I’m enjoying it more & more. Your S60 setup sounds good - I can confirm the resonator delete is the wrong move! It doesn’t really do much other than make it sound a bit raspy on a cold start. I’m now considering getting something fabricated, or linking up an aftermarket cat-back T5 system. Like you I’d prefer to avoid too much noise though, good luck with the update 👍
