Can someone explain to me what Kontakt is? I thought it was another library at first, but I hear people talking about it as if it is some kind of base tool or plugin(?) or something that you use with another library. As I'm researching VSTs, I keep seeing it mentioned sometimes used with libraries, sometimes without and I'm confused on whether it's needed, when to incorporate or use it and what it's for. I've heard it called a "player" now - what is that and what is the difference between that and say a DAW?

What library are you using with SB Brass? Thank you. Love your videos.

This is now a bit late, but I've only just discovered your coverage of this library. I'm sorry, but after all of the brilliant aspects of the library, to me, Vln 1 sounds slightly "off". Alright, I can't afford the library, or the resources it demands (a pity, for everything I do like about it), but that first violin would worry me.

It's always such a pleasure to see you working! How you follow your motif and put your musical notions into an arrangement... I see and hear years of practice and honed taste to make these musical miniatures. You always give me inspiration to try out ideas. Thank you for that!

What a fantastic arrangement. I did wonder why you didn't put a little piano in at the end, as you'd used it to introduce the theme at the beginning.

Wonderful stuff Guy. It's these simple kind of demonstrations that I get the most out of... I think they are one of the best insights into how to write. Thanks!

great video, as usual. the only thing i might suggest that would help someone like me a bit more, is sometimes adding the 'why' when you do things. for example, why did you choose to change keys so quickly at the beginning. was that just to make this piece move faster for this video? or is that solid writing advice in general? that said, always happy to to sit down and view these. very helpful to see how you write stuff.

Superb Guy, thank you very much for sharing. I liked the piece but you highlighted the importance of working together very well here. What I think happened is that Arnold liked his accompaniment then he was thrilled that his melody was starting to fit nicely with the accompaniment but was so overcome with joy he then went on a tangent and that's were it became unstuck. Wrong notes were played and there was no care because he was still reeling with that feeling of oh wow I've created something. I see this with a lot of new bands. They have a great idea there all enthusiastic but they loose track of every one else in the band and all just start pushing forward in their own zones of bliss now oblivious to playing together with any harmony or unison. I liked how you pointed out the timing and removed the random which let's be honest Arnold were blooper notes. But many thanks to Arnold for sharing. I really liked it Arnold. What you could do is take what Guy shared with you, still keep that change you originally had but expand the piece to have an accompaniment that changes with your melody later on. As Guy mentions there are great things happening but there all happening at once oblivious to your wonderful accompaniment. It just needs to be adjusted with the rest of the accompaniment changing when it's time to use the other half of your original melody. Essentially that change was to soon and sounded out of place because of it. That and the blooper notes caused the main issues. Also note how Guy ensured timing on all parts to be in time with your accompaniment. Again, thanks to both of you for sharing.

We're in a post-pastiche, post-unique voice world. I don't think it was true what you said about the remaining 25 percent. That's just your justification for choosing without saying eenie meenie miney moe. It's not that you have exceptional taste it's just that you have an exceptional ability to lie to yourself. Besides, additional music composers are meant to mimick.

As a rock guitarist (previously a drummer), I've always had a fascination with more intricate genres of music. As a kid (teen), I'd bewilder my friends and bandmates with my love for artists like Steeley Dan, Camel, and other lesser-known-to-them musicians. When it comes to translating my experimental ideas onto my keyboard, I've faced some challenges. I lack the knowledge of playing the piano, but I still enjoy giving it a try. I appreciate your ability to showcase the flaws and provide guidance on how to fix and enhance them. It gives me hope that I can finally complete those unfinished musical pieces on my computer!

Just started following your videos because I'd like to get into orchestral composition using the current software. I'm trying to figure out what kind of machine I need an what specs are sufficient. Would a Macbook Pro with a M3 chip, 36 Gigs of Unified Memory and 2TB SSD do the trick? Not looking to do this professionally, but do have ambitious personal projects planned with full orchestra - probably using BBCSO Core (still learning about options). Would these specs suffice for a "serious" hobbyist/amateur? Apple M3 Pro chip with 12‑core CPU, 18‑core GPU, 16‑core Neural Engine 36GB unified memory 2TB SSD storage
