I saw Toy Caldwell in a small bar in Durham Connecticut, I believe it was 4 months later he passed. I was devastated, I grew up with marshall tucker, I stood literally 4 feet away from him for that whole show. I remember he came out and said, “Well, because of contracts Im not supposed to play any MTB songs, but hell, I don’t care Im gonna do em anyway” Then they busted into Ramblin and blew my mind out for the rest of the night. Toy Caldwell was an outrageously talented guitar player

This is my favorite Marshall Tucker song from Where We All Belong. This is a true version to that if shorter. Toy was what I'd call an "iconic blues guitarist" because he was definitely blues yet rock and had a very special technique and tone. In other words like many guitarists such as Gilmour and Garcia I could instantly tell if it was Toy playing. That is so very special and amazing to me This cliche gets overused but it gains total truth when one says that Toy was one of the most under-rated rock guitarists of all-time. He was a string bending monster on the same plane as Stevie Ray. He was one of the most melodic heavy blues guitarists I've ever heard. He was amazing. I love his absolutely RAW and gruff vocals. Marshall Tucker was a special band and at least 75% of that was Toy.

Toy Caldwell, Charlie Daniels, Gary Rossington ,Billy Jones not to mention 50 others are the reason/s I play a Gibson Les Paul, and other Gibson Guitars, Sure, I Love, and own Strats ,but a Lester truly has a tone that is all you will need
