taping it or doing a 3D printer to cover it won't do anything. If anything it makes problem even worse. That's because that water needs somewhere to go. If it doesn't go into filter itself it will just sit at the bottom still making odor.

I bought one of these, like, a year ago at a secondhand store and was sad to find it did not work when i brought it home. I thought maybe something had gotten stuck, and had scoured the ergotron site and different repair forums for weeks to see if anyone else had a way to fix it. Since then, it's been sitting in my office here, reduced to holding up pictures until i could figure it out with my minimal technical knowledge. On a whim today, I looked up "ergotron repair" on ebay to see if I had missed something and there it was: this kit with this video. While this is still a bit intimidating of a task for me, you have made it go from "impossible" status to "a challenging puzzle to undertake on a day where ambition and competance matches time and energy". Thank you, sir. You are a gentleman and a scholar.

Unrelated to the main point of this video, but thank you for giving me the idea of designing and printing a replacement panel for that area under the screen. I've been wanting to mount a bass knob for my aftermarket stereo but didn't want to permanently modify the original panel And I also thank you for that cabin temperature consistency test. I find myself constantly having to turn the temperature up or down by a degree or two to stay comfortable, which I never had to do in my last car, and was wondering if the problem might be insufficient airflow to the cabin temp sensor. Glad to at least be able to rule that out now

It seems the only thing left might be condensation ebb and flow within the drainage cavity could possibly result in some biofilm build up if there was an appreciably heavy flow that somehow didn't drain due to a potential random act of the surface tension of the water not overcoming gravity, and if the car then sate for any extended period (say a long weekend or vacation, etc), could have set in motion a "seed" source for bacteria to flourish even just sitting overnight, whenever a similar situation ever occurs where moisture is pooled at all in that cavity ? I've cleaned refrigerator defrost run off catch pans that looked like biohazard petri dishes before, so I don't think it's impossible. I've put 55k on my '18 P3 and never once had the musty smell... until just yesterday, but I have always typically ran my system on manual for the last few minutes before arriving at my destination, to help dry it out. But I distinctly remember NOT doing that about a week ago on a late night return home, and then the car sat for nearly a week, until yesterday, when I immediately noticed the foul odor, and now it won't fully go away even after blasting it for a few hours last night to dry it. For better or worse, I will inspect the filters when I replace them tmro (when filters arrive :) ) and if the filters don't show any appreciable telltale of smell, it might support my theory, so I may try "flushing" that catch area by delivering water through the filter change opening and ensuring it freelows to the external drain. I will spray one of the many available newer enzymatic HVAC "coil and drain pan cleaners" through the condenser in an attempt to neutralize any organic matter that may have accumulated within the drain cavity. If that doesn't resolve, I may next attempt the same treatment with a classic ammonium chloride based HVAC coil/pan cleaner, followed by a similarly "classic" trihydroxylsilyl biological surface growth retardant. Not trying to promote any brand, but I have used PermaSAFE with good results. I've not tried any enzymatic HVAC products but was recently turned onto enzymatic septic treatments with amazing results, so figured I'd start with this "new tech" first to see if it works out. The HVAC industry has been wrestling with these types of issues for eons so I guess we just have to jump on board until Tesla watches your video and "fixes" it once and for all :shrug: But seriously, thank you for being a like-minded inquisitive person who embraces the scientific method <3

Adam - a great upgrade you should try. People have been retrofitting the Highland Model 3's suspension components into the pre-refresh one. Specifically, the struts. It is $500 for the parts compared to $1000+ for aftermarket coilovers and if you were to make a video it would be awesome.

Great video. I’m about to assemble the prints. I’ve taken the logos off and removed the adhesive. Just waiting on the base to print. Thank you so much for making the prints available and the tutorial!
@huskieszn12 күн бұрын
I’ve yet to put them on but I have a few tips for someone doing this. To start, print in PETG and NOT PLA. PLA will melt in heat. Firstly, glueing the base on without securing it with a screw is a fools errand. It will eventually break off if not secured with a screw. I DO NOT recommend doing this if you aren’t comfortable drilling through the cap. Secondly, make sure the base is facing the cap in the direction where the nuts for the clips are visible in the back. If it’s the other direction the nut will not secure the base on correctly. I also applied loctite to the screw attaching the base to the cap. It is worst case scenario for screws, vibrations may eventually unscrew it without loctite. However, I didn’t use loctite on the screws attaching the clips because if one breaks the idea is that you can replace them which would be very annoying with loctite on them. Hopefully that won’t be problematic. Third, make sure all the adhesive is properly removed before gluing the Tesla logos back on. I used a blow dryer to remove them and then soaked the glue in goo gone and scraped it off with a spudger. It came off easily but made a mess. The most annoying part for me is that the Tesla logos aren’t going to be perfect. It’s fine but they’re made of flimsy metal that bends when you remove them. To make sure they’re as bent back as possible I used heat then gently bended them back how they were. It’s more or less fine but it’s whatever. I am waiting for the T1000 adhesive I used on the logos to cure and then will put them on the car and see how it works.
@huskieszn12 күн бұрын
Just put them on. Eliminated all rattles and squeaks I had. I also recommend putting some WD-40 gel lubricant on the metal clips to negate some of the metal on metal contact. 9.5/10 mod. Only downsides are the logos looking a little wonky now and the effort required. To add, I’ve used your air filter mod for over a year and haven’t had any of that weird smell anymore, so thanks for that too. Thanks so much for making this video and the files available!

Hi. I have 2 2021 model 3. One built in China and one built in USA. They both have water under the floor carpets, the sponges under the carpets are saturated back and front. I’ve stripped the carpets and tried to find the leak point but can’t see anything. I’ve soaked the cars. Do you know where the drain point is for the HVAC (heat pump models). Thanks.

@ thanks so much. I have watched your videos before but will watch again. Does it drain out under the car then? I am at a loss as to the quantity of water in the car. Both cars. The water is odourless and clear so I know it’s not flood water or road water as there is no staining of the floor pan under the carpets. Cheers.
@adamdport13 күн бұрын
@@emmachamberlain7078 yea it just dumps down on top of the plastic belly pan and clumsily finds its way out. could be interesting to sprinkle some dye (maybe powdered?) into to your evaporator and see if the color finds its way into your carpets? Did tesla try to repair it under warranty or did it start after you hit 50k miles?
@emmachamberlain707813 күн бұрын
@@adamdport yeah too late. They were both bought used. No warranty. I don’t see much online about model 3 having water ingress underneath the carpets. There’s a few where water dripped onto the floor mats but not specifically underneath the carpets between the carpets and the floor pan. To be honest, I wouldn’t of found the issue if I hadn’t of been trying to figure out why there was so much condensation inside the car because the surface of the carpets weren’t that wet but the foam underneath all of the carpets was absolutely soaked if I’ve run them out into a bucket, it would’ve filled a 5 L bucket but like I said it was super clear and odourless.
