Possible someone can make or know where to get a Stand Alone real rain sensor module that could plug into the low voltage DC wiper motor, and user adjustable? Could easily make it a manual interrupt, similar to the video’s premise, to switch between the OEM hardware, and a aftermarket rain sensor controlled module.

What happened to the effort to make a real fix that would use a proper sensor? The Commander is just an alternative to wiring in the 'off' switch (at far greater expense).

I truly appreciate your explanation of why we have to use the auto wipers when using cruise control. It now makes sense why they cannot fix this issue of the wipers switching to auto mode when using cruise. They have to use auto. As a side note could you consider making a video on the after market anti nag devices. I really need to turn nag off with my driving style. Or if you have a better solution. I am tired of waiting for Tesla to fix or possible not be able to fix the nag.

@@michaelwittman1935 probably not something I'll cover. Tesla added it as a "safety feature" to ensure your hands are on the wheel. There are a bunch of videos of people literally sleeping behind the wheel before they added it-not a good look for them. Other manufacturers have gone a different direction though if you were open to switching brands. Ford, for example, I believe just tracks eye movements and doesn't require your hands to be on the wheel. They also have access to Tesla's supercharger network now.

Just a note, if you need to take your car into Tesla for warranty work and they see this mod they could refuse to work on your car unless you remove the mod. Tesla has done this to many people in the past. But I’ve always felt that Tesla shouldn’t force the auto wipers or auto high beams to be on when in autopilot/FSD. Let the driver decide and if the car feels it can’t see then give us a warning and turn off autopilot/FSD if we continue to ignore it.

It’s the serrations on the inside of the zip tie against the insulation of that copper wire and why you see some buffer used between the 2 usually. Overall it depends on how tight it is and daily use vibrations. For example it is significantly worse/faster when doing stuff like this on airplanes. But for things I want to never look at or think about again I use waxed twine. Plenty of aircraft maintenance videos will show you the quick and easy way to since down.

I still don't get why Tesla removed lot of safety critical items such as front facing radar, ultrasonic sensors, in favor of cutting costs. Now all those cars, will have some limitation imposed, even with FSD supervised taking giant leaps. Also with rain drop detection, there is a constant ISR going somewhere on FSD cpus. Small things like these when added up, costs the oomph of the inference engine, leading to increased latency, which may or may not be safety critical. I've seen the auto wipers performance from absymal to perfect, but never the same with each software update. All this work should not be needed to start with, if they did not delete the rain sensor to start with. Thanks for bringing to attention, and also to have fix, for this often overlooked frustration. But witnessing amount of work(not a fan of commander, due to safety, warranty and insurance risks), I will probably be fine, with the random frustration😅❤👍

Recently got a Tesla. Sometimes it really feels like they don't give a shit about their customers. Whoever works on their wiper software should not live somewhere it doesn't rain much. You know... first principles. Adam, what I appreciate most about your video is that proves the point that Tesla's stupid little oversights affects customers enough for them to take drastic measures like this to overcome them. Tesla is taking their customers for granted, they are their own worst enemy.
@hc35503 ай бұрын
You are correct. Tesla does not give a shit about their customers. They made me feel (twice) like I was a huge inconvenience to them when buying my cars. I really dislike the company, but I like the product. I guess they know this.
@hitf54 ай бұрын
I suspect this creator is doing this project for work credit - I mean I get why they would like to add a feature that disables the auto wipers, but the level of labor involved for such a simple task makes it seem like there is some other motivation. When they introduced the Commander module, I thought that it just turned into a big infomercial for this module. But in the end, they ask the question whether it is logical to install a device that could enable the car to do things that it may not or more appropriately should not do. So I appreciated all of that. However... I speak from experience when I say that installing anything that connects to the electrical system of a complex machine brings unpredictable results, especially with untested, low-quality products typical on Amazon. An example is when I changed the puddle lights under the doors to ones that displayed a Tesla logo. Doing so disabled the way the windows would automatically lower and raise a bit when the door was opened and closed. I learned the hard lesson when after not realizing this was happening, I closed the door and the window shattered because it came into contact with a semi-hard piece of plastic near the rear view mirror where it would not normally had the system been operating correctly. It was a $1000 mistake that the company who made the puddle lights had no intention of covering. And of course, Tesla service would not cover this expense either. And this was something as simple as a light. I can just imagine this Commander module has the ability to completely brick the car or worse. That is going to be one expensive repair bill if something goes wrong, and it definitely won't be covered under warranty or insurance. I do like the idea of remote controllers though and I wonder if there could be a way to access the Tesla API the way some third party Tesla app controllers work like Watch for Tesla, etc? There isn't a control for the wipers, but there are controls for things like opening doors, windows, etc. so it's conceivable that this all could be solved with software? It may be safer too as I suspect there are some protections the software has with rogue commands. Anyway, just a thought.
@adamdport4 ай бұрын
Wow, I worked so hard that you thought it was a conspiracy! 😂😂😂 Thanks for watching and for your detailed feedback. I genuinely enjoy diving deep into these projects, even if they seem over-the-top.
