Dear Mr. Garath Bester, I have watched all your UT Videos and still continuously watching your helpful videos. You are a blessing to our community in NDT. I just have a question, Isn't equalization technique are only to be used if the lamination depth are half the thickness of the test piece? Otherwise, the 6db drop technique are to be used? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the feedback. The point of the exercise is to demonstrate the method of drawing up a DAC. Please bear in mind this is not a USM training video but a general example. Each machine is different (and in the NDT field some may no longer have the digital functionality needed + people can be asked to use analog machines).

Hi there, I have the basic idea behind a DAC curve here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWXImnZvdtCMa5Y&lc=UgwhbRCQTQ-w7qbVaeV4AaABAg&ab_channel=GarathBester

you have to be in the DAC menu first and the machine auto generate the DAC curve, after picking points on the block. really not a way to teach DAC plotting.

Heyo, thanks for this, I am trying to show the basic idea behind a DAC (keep in mind not all sets have this function). I will endeavor to create one with the newer tech as well.

Hi there Allwin, I am sorry but it is difficult to know the exact problem you are facing. With those dimensions, is it possible to request an RT? The thickness and probe rock will make scanning that quite challenging.

@@garathbester What i need to test is if there is any difference if u calibrate AWS D1.1 calibration: Calibrate according to the AWS D1.1 with 40-60% FSH from the 1.5mm hole. After that, measure any known defect you have in the weld, write it down. Calibrate again now use 80% FSH and see if you have any different result. I assume that it size (length and height) should be the same. I hope u understand what i'm trying to do here. Have a good day :)

If I was scanning with my beam parallel to the weld searching for transverse cracks. How would that typically represent on the A-scan? Similar to the root and toe Crack? Wide base with high amplitude?
@garathbester
@garathbester Жыл бұрын
Correct, are you scanning on a plate or pipe? On a plate it should be as you have described, on a pipe as well, however because of the curvature of the pipe your root and cap echos will be after half and full skip or at least it will seem that way. In both cases a 45' probe should work best. As always, please revert to your procedure for more detailed input.
