I love your compilations; I’ve seen many of these scrims on Mike's site. Ken’s pooch is very cute. Wow, those hippo tusks are huge; I have a few, but nothing that big and wide. Ken Young is building quite a collection, an excellent collection, I'd love to email him and have a chat. That Masterdon tusk is superb, wow, what a piece. The smile on your face at the end says it all. The waterfall is just superb.

Hi Rod, Glad you enjoyed the video! When looking through my photos, I was surprised to see how much work I had done over the past year or so. I looked through what I left out and decided to share some of them in the next video. Thanks for the kind words and comments.. I emailed Ken's e-mail address to you. David

Loved the Avatar continuously informing us of what you were doing during the demo and why. It made your wonderful demo very interesting and informative to watch. Beautiful work!!!

Thank you for telling me that! I wasn't sure how people would react to an avatar. I think it works better than me narrating. I used her again in the follow up video which was posted yesterday. Thanks... David

Beautiful work, as always. You are lucky you live somewhere where you can still make ivory scrimshaw for profit. Here in Hawaii it is illegal to sell, transport, or work on any form of ivory, fresh or fossil, if it will ever be sold or bartered in any fashion. The eyes get old on us, though, so painting is a good direction.

Thanks for the comment and kind words. Indeed I am blessed to live where restrictions are not so harsh. Painting is my first love. Bless you.

I just finished watching the video again, wow. Excellent demonstration of how to do AAA-grade scrimshaw. Yes, I agree the background is where the fine detail goes in these jungle pictures, and it just eats up time. I like the way you used your phone to gather different parts of the scrim and then blend them seamlessly together. The ferns and grass give a real 3D effect. Eleanor was a nice touch and such a cutie; she would make a fantastic mermaid. Thank you, thank you, thank you. As with everything you do, it is always worth the wait. The highlight of my collection. Regards Rod

Hi Rod, Thank you very much! So glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, the phone is a great device for storing my reference material; it beats messing with having to deal with books and photocopies to work from, save a lot of space!! Yes, Eleanor is a cutie! I created her in a program called Midjourney. I intend to use her again in the next video. By the way, if you can find the time, will you take more photos of the tiger? Perhaps 3/4 views of right and left sides and one of the base/title plate? I'd like more to work with in the next video. Eleanor will be describing the piece. Thanks... David
@rodlacey5602 ай бұрын
Hi David, Thanks, yes I will take some pictures but please explain what a 3/4 view is.
@adamsalive2 ай бұрын
3/4 view is what I shared over and over in this video; side view of the scrim that is distorted in the front view photo. This piece has a strong curvature which distorts the scrim in the frontal image. I'll explain in the next video; it will be a clarification video of some of the etching I shared along with your photos. I may include photos of one of my paintings at the end. Thank you ... David

Hi David, first let me say that I appreciate you making and sharing your videos. To be able to watch and hear comments from a true master is amazing. I am in total awe of your talent. Thank you so much for letting us see how you accomplish your artwork. In your videos are you actually scribing while on video or are you just showing the process? I ask because you are using such a light touch that it doesn’t seem to actually be scratching. As a someone who is just starting to scrimshaw I was really taken aback by your question why people who can’t draw want to do scrimshaw. I’m 67 and feel I’m not artistic and definitely and terrible at drawing. In my wildest dreams I can’t imagine scrimshaw at your level. The few pieces I have done people say they like it and are impressed. I’m doing it because it’s fun for me and a challenge. After hearing your question I will start practicing drawing. Thanks again and hopefully I will be able to acquire one of your pieces someday, Bruce

is your scriber a rotary tool? in pictures it looks manual but theres a background noise that might be rotary motor, and it looks like you're barely touching the material - i would have expected more effort required if manual.

I scrimshawed a piece of beef bone that used to be my dog's chew treat. I don't know how hard you're pressing down while carving but I had to really push hard to get any kind of ink to stick. I ended up using a China wax marker to fill in the scratches

In addition, I provide links in the description area to purchase tools for scrimshaw. I wish you the best with your projects... David Adams
