Hi David Excellent as always. I noticed the ivory has some crumbly flaky areas at the ends but otherwise is quite solid Each of those otters is a scrimshaw in itself and you have a whole bunch Yes your water is……..really real The foreground water detailed fading into the background Wow, very busy piece Beautiful Regards Rod

Hi David, I like the unboxing, nice touch. “Days upon days”, yes I understand, if you want to become rich don’t do scrimshaw. That music is so haunting. You have captured a glimpse of a far away place and time, the Otters staring at us. The rough natural frame really set it off. Fantastic piece, love to have it in my collection. Regards Rod

Indeed!!! Scrimshaw is certainly NOT a path to riches. I consider myself very blessed to have scrimshaw projects to do each month. I've experienced homelessness three times...Scratching ivory using the sun as a light source on a rock next to a river is not fun. Or a day before meeting with a merchant; with hands freezing, I etched away on small walrus teeth in the middle of the night while trying to keep warm as the cold wind whispers through the flimsy tent. An old Coleman lantern propped up on a box was my only light and heat source. I can go on and on with similar stories. I'm humbled to have a roof over my head. David

@@adamsalive Hi David, Yes, we have all come a long way since our younger years. You say, “very blessed to have scrimshaw projects to do each month.” I think what will be your next project, a snarling Tiger, maybe? Yes, my wife also has a haunting voice, dang, dang, ahhhhhhhh, as knives zip past my head, just in time to plunge into a side room. Life is certainly interesting; never a dull moment. Regards Rod

@@rodofdiscipline1887 Hahaha! The tiger is coming along very well! I took a break from it last week to work on a lynx for Alaska. I've been really focused on the tiger for the past few days. I will share photos soon. David

Hi david, I've seen your wonderful artwork, especially the scrimshaw on the knife handle. But I wondering if I use the knife very often, will the scrimshaw be removed? How do you pretect the scrimshaw on the knife handle?

Hi Yang Shang, Thanks for commenting and sorry for the late reply; I just saw it! I don't get notifications of all the comments. I have never used the knives I scrimshaw because they're all done for collectors. I believe that their scrimmed knives are for display and show off. I recommend that you preserve the knife etchings with an archival wax such as Renaissance Wax and reapply the wax more often than a display piece depending on how often the knife is handled. Thanks for watching! I wish you the best... David
