Latuda, Abilify, and now Risperdal.... all cause this for me. Make me feel like I want to jump out of my skin. I am on Valium as well and it doesn't really help. I have been taking 2mg.of Xanax at bedtime for 15 years straight following 3 hip replacements and tried to slowly taped off with no success, either I take it and sleep well or I get down to 1.5 mg. and only sleep 3-4 hrs max. Honestly at 63 years old I hope pass before I have to go through most of the side effects I have read about. My Doctor retired and we moved and now I have to see a psychiatrist to get refills. The only positive point I see is that body has not built up a tolerance requiring more medication. I can't imagine how some doctors were prescribing 6-8 mg. PER day for some patients, I would be blowing spit bubbles all day. Doctor's need more education on the side effects of meds and quit helping to slowly kill patients by denying them pain medications under light supervision.

I know three people with Bipolar Disorder. All three have used marijuana and firmly believed that it helped them, However, over a few months timeframe using high THC marijuana daily all three patients developed extremel mania, with intense anxiety and insomnia. Two of them threatened suicide, two of them threatened homicide, two of them were experiencing paranoid psychotic delusions and hallucinations. All three continued to insist that the marijuana was helping them - because they could only see the very real short term calming effect. After showing them the literature and explaining the causality two of them stopped using and fully recovered quickly. The other required 6 months to recover but now has fully recovered. There is a good paper in Psychiatric Times titled “Cannabis Induced Bipolar.” The author verifies my experiences saying that almost all bipolar patients will say that it helps them while in reality it is causing their extreme mania!

I've been a daily cannabis user for 35 years and recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder at age 50 after being diagnosed with emphysema which interfered with my ability to continue my cannabis use.
