Do you find that this cools the entire van or just the space below it? It does nothing for our sprinter 170 here in Texas. The outside temp was about 87 and the inside of the van was baking unless you are right under the ac.
@Trailtec4x43 ай бұрын
The few times I've used it in the heat of the day it's been well above 90 outside with heat index of about 110-120. It's kept the inside below 80 and most importantly for us here, lowered the humidity significantly. At night it runs on night or Eco mode and cycles off and on. During the heat of the day directly under it will freeze you out. We do put up the window covers up and I aim a couple of the vents forward to blow it through the van. We also have a 12v fan that we use to circulate the air around. Our van is a 148" mid-roof so it's several feet shorter than yours with a lower roof, good insulation and it's white so that may be the biggest differences.

Thanks. As mentioned in the video the suspension is upgraded to Dobinsons IMS system with HD springs. After the video was made I actually upgraded the rear springs again to an 1,100 lb extra capacity lift spring from Ironman. The camper itself weighs less than 500 lbs. It's all aluminum. I never had it weighed when I owned it but my guess is somewhere in the 800-1,000lb range for total load with everything inside.

It relocates it up under the Ford logo on the grill and works fine. The front bumper sensors however have gone crazy since installing it. The two center sensors move to the bumper and seem to be located away from everything but they constantly go off for no reason or don't go off at all when I know something is there. They had to be rotated 180 to fit back in the bumper so IDK if that's the issue or not.

With the compressor and the fans on high it was 78db right at the vents and about 62 down near the bed. Mostly fan noise once the compressor ramps up. Love White Pocket. Mud / Ruts mode there and just about everywhere in the desert including gnarly climbs over ledges. We were going to go to White Pocket after Overland Expo West this year but we got sick from some Vegas bug and camped by Lake Powell instead. The washboard on House Rock Rd is easy compared to others out there. Hole-in-the-Rock Rd will knock your teeth out.
@Trailtec4x47 ай бұрын
I tried mud/ruts but it won't shift out of 1st gear in that mode. Went for slippery but that actually kills the throttle response. Found normal drive mode worked best for me in the deeper sand. We found some nastier washboards the next day headed into the north rim. Spaced out about a foot apart so you couldn't get any speed or rhythm.
@JimPreston7 ай бұрын
@@Trailtec4x4 I don't recall being stuck in 1st gear with Mud / Ruts. Normal is what we and others use in snow in Colorado and Utah. Air down if you can but drive around 40 mph over washboard. It is awful at any speed so may as well get it over with. That is the speed the ranchers use out there. I've seen what washboard and ledges do to interiors like yours. You probably have some ideas for securing everything better now.

I've seen some other videos talking about it staying in low, but maybe I need to play with it more. I was at 30psi and running about 40mph but when they got spaced out too much the whole van would kick sideways and I had to start over. Different wheelbase and tire sizes change the harmonics of them too. Find the resonant frequency and it'll tear things apart. That drawer was the only thing that really gave us any problems and I knew that was coming before we left.
@JimPreston7 ай бұрын

Your rig will climb to the top of Harrah Pass at the end Kane Creek Rd, if you have solid A/T tires such as KO2's. I have a 2022 AWD 130" WB MR lifted so it is pretty much a Trail, but shorter. In some of my KZbin videos I'm pushing the limits of the AWD Transit. I got a bit wild for our Kokopelli Trail for Vans Leg 2 trip. We live in Grand Junction, CO so Moab and south Utah is our backyard. We off-road and overland travel there all year. If you want more trail ideas for our rigs then check us out @AWDTransitOverland. By the end of the trip I had it in some rougher places but at that point we really didn't know what we had. I just finished the build a couple days before we left. Definitely not like my Ram on 35s but it crawled pretty good in Mud/Ruts mode. And being 2,500 miles from home I was playing it a little safe. I'll check out your page sometime.
@JimPreston7 ай бұрын
@@Trailtec4x4 Yeah, you do want to be more careful than me. Do you still have the original Trail tires or the recall tires? I'm doing fine with 245/70R16 KO2's but a half inch more clearance would probably be good. I don't want to get the van too high because the off-camber trails get too scary. We built-out our interior to keep the weight low and light. 7,000 pounds trip weight.
@Trailtec4x47 ай бұрын
Still the original Trail Goodyears unfortunately. The two tires I hate the most after ten years of selling tires are Goodyear and BFG so they will get swapped out for some Falken AT4W at some point. May go up a little bigger too. Just need a little more trimming and some heat gun work on the plastic. Still deciding if I want to find a 5th Trail wheel or sell the four I have as spares for someone else and just put all new wheels and tires on. I'm sitting at about 8,300# with the water and gas full but it's mostly in the first 3' from the floor. Seems to be the same if not more stable than my Ram with the Alu-Cab on the bed since that carried it's weight higher.

Wow, your van turned out nice!! Really good job. Hey, have you done anything about the tire recall? My trail is still "in production" -- I fear that Ford will put the small tires on it. The trail package is 12K. People are paying a premium for that, mostly for the lift. Rumor is that Ford is taking the lift away but not compensating owners. I'm curious about your experience with Ford.
@Trailtec4x48 ай бұрын
I cut the pinch weld back a bit and reworked the plastic with a heat gun. It only rubs the plastic on one side if it's turned just right and I hit a dip hard. After ten years owning an offroad shop I'm not worried about it. Pretty much every lifted vehicle has some rubbing if you dont clearance it enough. I'll probably lift it a bit more and put bigger tires on anyway. Oh, and they can't void your entire warranty over this either. I see everyone saying that but it's not true. Magnusson Moss Act.

They do, and I tried, but there was no way to fit it. I researched it for a while, and it can be mounted sideways. The vertical mount is to allow air to rise through naturally to cool it, but there is a fan inside, so with good air flow it can work. If it does get hot an auxiliary fan can be added.

I want to ask, have you changed the front and back gears? I have a 2023 Rebel 4x4, and I have an overland build on my truck. I get about 9 miles per gallon. It's because I couldn't regear the front and back ring and pinion. Currently, I have 3.92 gears, but I want to change them to 4.88. Do you know where to get those gears, or can you explain what I can do to improve my mileage?
@Trailtec4x410 ай бұрын
I didn't change them and it drove great. I got about 11-12 around town and 14 highway. 3.92 was perfect for keeping it in the right RPM range with 35s. 4.88 will make it rev higher and usually lowers your mileage. Have you corrected the tire size in you computer? I added the Tazer module so I could adjust for the correct tire size. And remember to measure your actual tire size and not just enter 35. If you haven't corrected it your speedometer and mileage will read low and give you false mileage calculations.

Nice work! -- Your videos will help me build a Trail i have on order. I ordered one with the vinyl floor from the factory. What I plan to do is use 80/20 to frame everything on top of the vinyl. My plan is to box the inside completely. 80/20 will lay across the factory vinyl floor and be anchored to the walls, ceiling, tie-downs and itself (as a box frame). This forms "patches" in the floor where 80/20 lays on top that I can cut foam to fit inside and brace with flanges. That gives me a protected and insulated floor that I can easily pull-up at any time to replace a section or clean. Then I can put a mat or rug over the walkable sections to cover the 80/20 frame and insulation. Additionally, on the walls and ceiling and maybe floor, I will put rubber between the 80/20 and van frame, to prevent heat conduction. I am not sure if this idea will work.. i have not seen anyone else try it this way. Just giving you another idea, as you have the vinyl in place to do it this way.
@Trailtec4x410 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and glad it helps. I have used wood framing and 80/20 in the past but honestly, I have a cabinet maker background and it takes me three times as long (and way more cost) to build with 80/20 than just using wood. I'll be attaching everything to the walls and to this plywood subfloor as I go so it will be very well supported. Different concepts but hopefully you'll still find some useable ideas as I go. Thanks again!
