@adamiov I highly appreciate your interesting postings. But in this case I have to ask you why you have augmented the speed of the record and thus falsified the pitch. There is a brilliant record conducted by Paul Angerer which has the “right” pace and all the repetitions of the partition.

Because like many others I find some of the interpretations from Marco Polo quite boring. This recording from album 17 of their series with works by Johann Strauss II was unfortunately not very exciting either. Of course many of the recordings from this series are great, e.g. all under Walter, Dohnanyi or Dittrich. The increase in tempo gave the waltz some energy. I know this recording by Angerer and I like it as much as the rest of his recordings with the Wiener Kammerorchester.

@yves8172 vor 25 Minuten In the 1980s there was a radio broadcast on ORF1 between 17:30 and 18:00pm (almost) every working day (Mo to Fr) under the title “Im Jahrhundert des Walzers”, curated and spoken by Prof. Franz Mailer where one could hear such gems. A lot of them - as this „Goldfischlein“ - had been recorded with the „Grosses Wiener Rundfunkorchester“ conducted by Prof. Max Schönherr, one of the most prolific interpreter of Strauss music ever.

A very vivid interpretation in a gorgeous sound which is luscious and at the same time very transparent so that one can easily distinguish different instruments. The rather fast tempo (Kogan usually takes) is here less disturbing. I would only wish that he wouldn’t browse through the whole waltz at the same pace. Different parts usually are thought to be in different in « speed ». And since he offers us most of the repetitions without cut (a treat!) it can’t be meant to be danced to. Also in Strauss’ days waltzes were partially cut for the dance floor. Nevertheless, a fine addition to the Strauss records although we have already a very nice interpretation on a Chandos CD conducted by John Georgiadis.

A very interesting waltz of Carl Millöcker, who was a really important composer in the history of Vienna operetta but unfortunately is less popular today. My favorite parts of this waltz are sections 2:46, 5:14 as well as the introduction.

This recording belongs to the best of Johann II's music performances under the direction of Robert Stolz. One can hear perfectly the details of the instrumentation and at the same time feel the rhythm of the dance.

Great waltz created by a great composer! Dunaevsky as the composer of such beautiful dances had his own style, which remains modern to this day and at the same time is embedded in the best traditions of Russian composers as well as the Waltz Kings of the 19th century.

He surely was a very talented composer. I knew that there was a reference to the famous March of Enthusiasts in the waltz, but I didn't connect the fragment of it with Op. 321 by Strauss II. Some time ago I uploaded the best recording I could find (Kharkiv Philarmonic Orchestra) of his Concert Waltz, probably the best waltz he composed (School Waltz is great too, especailly the version uploaded by PetrovFed): kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5TYYX2koraMo9E

How many waltzes did Johann Strauss II compose during his lifetime? I have been a huge fan of Viennese waltzes. But there are still a number of his waltzes I have never known so far. And this waltz is one of those. I am truly in awe of his talent as a composer.
