Hey, just a random question, do you happen to know what the leds of those old gateless signals were, I'm planning on recreating the crossing in roblox,

I like how the young lady with the stroller stopped and turned around so her kid could watch the train go by. Most people DGAF about trains anymore.

I remember hearing that defect detector. How do these devices work?
@Brenton813 күн бұрын
It's basically an automatic inspection done by some equipment installed trackside. When the train passes, it counts the axles, checks for overheated wheel bearings, sticking brakes, dragging equipment, etc. and gives the read out at the end. If there are any defects, it will announce what it is and where in the train (by axle number) it's located.

The horn of that locomotive sounds like in movies with trains.

why was the road closed?
@Brenton8121 күн бұрын
The road goes for about a mile past the crossing and dead ends at the Lake Michigan bluff. There's no homes or businesses past the tracks, so it's essentially a road to nowhere. It was closed to save on maintenance and prevent kids from using it for drag racing, which was starting to become a problem.

This town actually had an Explosive Derailment back in 1970 that pretty much decapitated the Antique Brick Buildings.

You aren't kidding. I've seen the footage of it. Took out most of the downtown.

Did they store the locomotives down there with the cars? Doesn’t look like there are any wyes or double track segments.
@Brenton81Ай бұрын
Some of the cars went into the double-ended siding at Jefferson Junction, north of town. The rest were taken south. There's a small siding in Jefferson, by Purina. That's where they cut the power and made some moves so the engines were on the north end, then shoved the rest of the storage cars south of town.

These trains never come by anymore. Never see any trains on this line anymore, at least in the last year or so. I do miss them
@Brenton81Ай бұрын
These trains take a different route now. Instead of hopping on this line by the Metra station and heading across town, they keep going south to Lake Bluff and cross over there. As far as I know, there is nothing that uses this line on a regular basis anymore.
@jeremy1069fmАй бұрын
@@Brenton81 I figured. Kinda sad about it. I grew up watching these trains. They used to park the empty cars a little bit east of this crossing (Between 30th and 39th Ave) A lot of times I would find "Bad Order" labels from them with instructions to return them to Cudahy.
