Is heating cost low in Pennsylvania?

I agree about the weather. I love in SE PA where the weather isn't as bad as other regions of the state. And I was surprised when a guy from the west coast told me he was surprised how green it is here. Yes, deer can be a problem particularly during rutting season. It's not hard to get liquor. I only drink the occasional beer. Where I live people can be standoffish. Poconos are great for a low key rustic experience. I'll add there are no taxes on SS benefits nor pensions.

My 8th GGF George Maris purchased a 1000 acres from William Penn and discovered there were springs under his fields. He named it Springfield. Another one of my ancestor was John M Broomall. ✊🏾to my Quaker ancestors.

Do you have any information on buying land in this particular area?

I grew up there and there's no place quite like it

Do these 55+ communities have mass transportation ? Do you own your home and property in these communities ? Are the yearly fees considered the same as 'HOA' fees - which to me means the communities are run by a dictatorial board of nosibodies? I'm a few years away from retirement, but I am starting to look at options.

It's a safe town. I can sleep with the doors unlocked here and I wouldn't do that anywhere else I lived in the bucks county area. Some great parks outside of " in town" you can fish, paddle board and small boat at

Some rowhomes have garages, I owned one.

Philly is an awesome sports town The shore ( beach) is super close ( day trips) I feel the it is the most affordable large metro in the east coast if not Country Delco Lifer here

Mostly Main Line. While New Hope is a cute touristy town, it’s not really as family oriented as other Bucks communities such as Doylestown or Newtown township.

Media, PA is awesome! I grew up there. Even little houses are $$$$$ so it's no longer as affordable as it used to be. Pity.

I was surprise that Levittown made the list. Been here in the North Park section for 13 years and I have seen vast improvement in the community but If I could have had a better choice It would have been Yardly or Huntington Valley that borders NE Philadelphia.

Nice review but, the pics used for Chalfont are actually the Washington House located in Sellersville and the Perk, located in Perkasie.

You might check on the reality of nightlife in Newtown and the average definition of that. Restaurants and supermarket open till 10 might not be the definition of nightlife that most people have.

After visiting friends in Eastern PA for years, I have fallen in love with the Keystone state!! After retirement i want to move there. Being from SoCal, I've never driven in snow.. everything there is so cheap!

Hi! Delaware County has a reputation for high taxes. I lived in Media and Newtown Square and they are wonderful areas. I graduated from Marple-Newtown. If I moved back there being in my retirement years, it would have to be further out like Chester County, maybe down towards Delaware. Hard to tell.

I was in the mechanicsburg area for a month and a half and fell in love with the area. Looking to hopefully move there from California.

He downplays this, but the Philly suburbs have among the best mass transit outside cities in the country. Almost no non-city neighborhoods in the US are easily car-free, but you can readily find neighborhoods in the Philly 'burbs where you can walk to stores and commute downtown by train. Delaware County is the best example, but many parts of Montgomery, Bucks and even farther out Chester County are transit-friendly, as are nearby NJ & even DE towns.

Since I’m retired, this is all very good information. I remember the potholes but we lived with them. Thanks for more good information!
