Just found your channel. Thanks for taking the time to share your talent and techniques! I'll definitely be watching your back catalog of videos. I have about 5 miles of gravel roads to maintain. We use compact tractors (40hp or less). Your method of compaction with a skid steer is the thing we need, but just can't fit it in the budget. Have you seen or know of any less expensive ways to add compaction to our maintenance and repair that will work with a compact tractor?

Compaction is important, but the material needs to be properly conditioned beforehand. This means moistening the material before rolling it. The material appeared too dry initially. Secondly, a subsurface drain should be installed at the lowest point of the driveway, roughly at its midpoint. This drain should run under the driveway to direct water from one side to the ditch on the other, ensuring proper drainage.

Looks good. What brand roller is that? What kind of tilt attach is on the kubota? Do you have any grade control on the mini-ex? I'm in north MS. Our limestone is from Rogers Group as well. Good looking driveway.
@graveldrivewayrecovery6 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! Roller is Skidpro. Bradco tilt. There is no grade control on the mini-ex, just set grade and do half bucket pulls. It helps to start at the drain and work away so the grade flows correctly.

Nice work. That ravine on the inside radius (at 6:52-7:00) makes me nervous a horse trailer could fall off if the driver isn't on top of things. While not structural- I'd consider a visual barrier (white painted wood fence rails or something?) so drivers are aware and get "pushed" more tot he center of the trail.

Honest question… wouldn’t it make more sense to use crushed stone first and then top dress with an inch of 57s? Won’t the fines in the crushed stone eventually work its way into the openings of the 57s and settle?
@graveldrivewayrecovery12 күн бұрын
By compacting, we avoid much of the settling.

@ gotcha! So what’s the point of using the 57s? Just trying to learn. Appreciate your videos!

The 57s work with the fabric to create a bridge across the subgrade, distributing the load across a broader area.

Box blades are the worst for roads, they are better for leveling land. 3-point scrapers bad also… they go up and down with the tractor. The only way to fix roads properly with a tractor is with trailed scrapers that tilt. I’ve got a 12’ tilt scraper from Notch that I run behind my 300HP tractor and because the blade tilts hydraulically, I can easily crown a road. You can’t do that with a mounted box or scraper blade.

you all do good work, worth noting not all nonwoven is cheap, i have used non woven in east TN and it is incredible strong and it is not cheap, the difference explain to me is the amount of water that can go thru, the nonwoven drains better, the woven is stronger where water is not the concern
