Best intake removal vid I've seen. I'm getting ready to remove mine to replace the 2 coolant hoses and the CVC under the intake. Thanks for the vid.

Thank you very much for posting this. I just finished this absolute PITA job today and a couple of things I'd mention: Unless both front wheels are in the air and the sway bar isn't under tension, the sway bar link will be very difficult to remove. I tried standing on my brake rotor but wasn't brave enough to push it down far enough to get the top of the strut out. It fouls by a good centimetre or so. Maybe you need to really give it some force, but I just didn't want to do it. It also looks like the level sensor could snap if you push the hub down far enough. I ended up using spring compressors while the strut was still on the car. Even then it was hard to get the strut out. My car had the Sachs OEM dampers and they were as effective as yours. They also didn't have bump stops. My top mounts looked like yours; I didn't replace them either. The rears thankfully are one of the easiest jobs I've ever done on a car. Thanks again for taking the time to make this video. I hope my experience helps someone else.

Hey Willie I enjoy your videos. Since you have some serious experience with e39 transmissions I thought I should ask you a question... My 1997 528 transmission (the 4-speed trans made by GM) blew up at 140K and I had it rebuilt in May of 2024 to the tune of $5k, but now when it shifts in to 4th gear it "bumps". It feels like it's not getting enough clutch action - like it just drops into 4th. This happens consistently when gradually accelerating on a level road, right around 35 mph. It does not happen when going uphill/downhill, or when quickly accelerating. It varies, but it's often a significant bump and is very noticeable. My indie shop agreed there was an abnormal bump, so they replaced the torque converter, the solenoid, and replaced the trans fluid again. But the bump is still there. Very frustrating. Any thoughts you might have on this are appreciated. Thanks.

Did you have to take out the down pipe to get to the torque converter bolts or did you have a solution around it. Would really appreciate the response.

Ok nah bro. You filled it when it was too hot first and youre instructing to fill it after measuring it cold. A simple zip thru the gears with ensure its distributed properly as you fill it but the whole thing should be simplly one "safe" warm reading.

Bearing puller kit costs about $50; better, knowing in advance that you have to remove the bearing from the shaft (it's a press fit) why not rent a puller from your local parts supply shop. About $10 for half a day; a smoother operation, better than trying to beat the crap out of the old one hoping it comes off.

Great not having to take the whole shaft down and out. I’m inspired to try this very soon. 👍🔧

Dude, just curious; what coolant was on the vehicle? Why isn't it blue? Oh, there's an aluminum option for the thermostat housing, just an FYI which is better than plastic.

good technique but please watch out for the brake lines, seen to many people brake them doing it like that, best to remove the caliper a little more work but saves you a lot of time and money if the line snaps

I liked the video. Very well filmed. And Your technique is helpful. But you have made a great mistake: you should have unbolted the break caliper. The way you stressed thay brake line pulling down on it to remove the strut is something completely forbbiden as you cam damage it and risk it fails while driving your car on the road. Beware every one who takes this video as a reference!

Glad I have a trans jack. I'm going to put all 4's up on 12" wheel chocks seeing that I don't have my lift installed yet. Fighting same code for the past 7 years, lost the rear main seal last year so it's now time to replace the torque converter which I've had for 4 years new in a box just waiting to be installed. Anyone interested in a 1994 e34 530 540 transplant?
