Physics states and proven that ball start line is defined by club face not path. So you can’t aim face at target and then shape with path. Face has to be left or right of target and path bends shot back to target.

Hi Paul - thanks for your feedback. You can create fade spin in two ways - #1 have face open to path at impact (Face fade) #2 have face square to path at impact but from out to in (Path fade) The “ Face” fade is a deflected blow that prevents the ball meeting the sweet spot. The “Path fade” uses the sweet spot, without adding loft at impact. You are not wrong in what you say but without understanding “path fades” and “face fades” plus “path draws” and “face draws” it means that understanding the ball flight laws are incomplete. It is more subtle than simply 3 paths and 3 faces Hope that helps - I will try to post a vid on this subject in more detail.

@ yes I don’t understand #2 , how can path and face be square and path also be out to in. “Out to in” relative to what? If path and face are square then the ball should just travel straight in that direction ?

Hi Mike - thanks for your feedback. It’s interesting that despite so many improvements in golf balls, shafts and heads that handicaps have not really changed amongst amateur golfers. However, we can see huge changes in the Tour Pro ranks re distance and scoring. Back in the late 70’s a set of forged Ram Tour Grind was the market leader. I use regular graphite shafts in all my clubs. Kind regards, Luther.

Luther, greetings from Hong Kong. These past six weeks I have been a single digit handicapper for the first time in my 64 years! For some 4 or 5 years I have followed your methods including the two sessions in 2021 and 2023 when I visited England. I would like to publicly credit you for my achievement (I also won the Club Championship over 4 gruelling rounds in one weekend). I sincerely believe it was the simplicity of your teachings that allowed me to trust my technique and focus instead on where I want the ball to go. Took a while for the penny to drop but the result is satisfying. Thanks again.

I have Hogan's 1955 Life magazine article. Hogans left thumb was directly on top of the club shaft. It was very weak. His right hand was directly on top of the club shaft and very weak. How was he able to hit the ball so well with this grip?
@lutherblacklockgolfcomКүн бұрын
Hi Moto - thank you for your feedback and question. The fact is that the vast majority of Tour Pros succeed with less than orthodox grips. Rather like Scheffler’s footwork - highly idiosyncratic yet he is World #1 Like Jim Furk, the most unorthodox swing of the modern era has shot a 58 and a 59. What does all this prove? It proves that shotmaking takes precedence over technique! Thanks for your interest and subscribing, Kind regards, Luther.

I had a tremendous slice. I learned to draw the ball by shifting my feet around to my left lining up right of my target line. Sometimes starting the club head 5" behind the ball and hitting on an exaggerated upswing. Played with it for a while on the range. Then proceeded to learn to drop my hands and keep my right elbow in. I can hit the ball just like you're showing at will.

Luther, how should my wrist hinge feel? Sometimes I feel out of control and flippy. Other times, I feel solid resistance on my left thumb, but not a lot of wrist hinge. Which is right?
@lutherblacklockgolfcom20 күн бұрын
Hi Dave - wrist cock happens almost automatically with woods and your longest irons. It is from wedge through to 5 iron that the wrists cock and very much so with your wedges. It’s counter intuitive but active wrist cock actually improves accuracy. If your left thumb is neat and parallel to the shaft your wrist cock won’t be more than 90 degs.

Great info. Most players videos that I study their angle at address and at actual contact are different. Hips back, arms straighter, plane flatter, do you consider that in your fitting or just at address?
@lutherblacklockgolfcom20 күн бұрын
Hi Fred - thanks for your question and interest. It’s a big topic - firstly the spine angle is mainly a result of ideal posture and the length of club in use. You are correct that the spine angle changes during the swing - again depending on the shot. Surprisingly, as the arms and club rise and fall the with of the arc changes only a small amount. Hope this helps - I’ll try to cover this subject next time we film 😎🏌️♀️😇

@lutherblacklockgolfcom20 күн бұрын
Hey Sean - as it was a triple exposure from one angle it distorts the line of the toes. Rest assured, I was “open” with the Wedge, “square” with the 6-iron and “closed” with my Driver. Also, the three swings weren’t aligned to the same point - the Wedge and Driver were aligned “parallel” to the 6-iron ball/target line. Hope that makes sense - thanks again for subscribing 👍😂🏌️♀️

Ball position is specific to each individual golfer; Depending on your swing and fade or draw
@lutherblacklockgolfcom20 күн бұрын
Hi Al - I get your point👍 However, next time you are practising try hitting some Driver shots from a central ball position and then some Wedge shots with ball position off left instep. Hi Christian - it’s a great encouragement to get such kind feedback from a PGA Colleague. It took 3 days to shoot, 2 days to edit and cost approximately £30K to produce but I’m glad I did it. Luther, can you do a video on shaft angle at set up!? Where does it point for each club, having shaft lean etc.. is something I am confused about!? Thanks
@lutherblacklockgolfcom20 күн бұрын
Hi Gerard, thank-you for your question. Essentially it’s a spectrum of choice - Driver shaft is perpendicular and 90 degree to the ball/target line. A 6-iron leans a little so the butt of the club is over and above the ball. A Wedge leans forward the most - the butt of the club just past the ball. So you can see that shaft lean is intrinsically linked to ball position. We need to play the Driver opp Left Heel. 6-iron opposite left-centre and finally Wedge dead centre - the “Progressive Ball Position. I hope that helps - kind regards, Luther
@Simeon-the-MagnificentАй бұрын
Luther, would it be correct to think I should be swinging on a steeper plane with a wedge than a driver? When I address the ball I visualise the plane judging by the the angle of the shaft. Is this recommended to alter the plane through out the bag? Truly, Richard
@lutherblacklockgolfcom20 күн бұрын
Hi Simeon the Magnificent! The shaft plane is nothing to do with the actual swing plane. The angle of the spine is determined by the length of the club. The Driver creates the longest, flattest swing plane and the Wedges give you an upright, shorter swing plane. So take your address position with any given club - then coil your left shoulder under your throat and allow the length of the club determine your swing plane. The swing plane varies according to the club in use and the type of shot you are creating. The good news is that the shoulders coil in a similar fashion for every club, Hope that helps, kind regards, Luther

Hi Luther, I'm very interested in this topic as when I first played golf, I picked up the habit(from the Jack Niklaus book I bought as a kid) of playing off the left heel with every club... I've been told by everyone to move the ball back in the stance as you go down the club length, but I just can't seem to make it work. So I've been sticking with the Niklaus/Hogan setup for now.... I get what you say about the ball position being relative to the feet position but am struggling to undersand specifically how it relates to the target direction...ie the relative direction of clubface to the feet/hips & shoulders relative to the target direction.... is the swing plane(arms/shoulders/hips)moving round the circle in the same way as the feet are. Any pointers or reference to other videos would be gladly recieved .....

Good tips Luther. My old club was always very windy, alongside Bigbury Bay in Devon. I once played a club matchplay game in a 40mph south-westerly. My opponent wanted to postpone, but I told him it would be fun. My swing was always flattish, with a low ball flight, he was a high fader. Putting was nigh on impossible that evening I recall. I managed to beat him 3&2. God bless.
