I got a w116 280se from 1972 that was sleeping in a garage for 45 years, I got it for almost nothing and brought it back to life for around 1.5k, the car is brand new with only 56k miles on it, super happy with it :D

Hello. I do need your help. I found one in Burundi. Abandoned in back yard. The car has 51715 km only. But it's has been in the parking for 15 years. The body is not in good shape. But interior is good.

I think that.pount that you are misding is thatnit was s durable wrll designed car..there were many that were more expensive.

The paint will never be as good as factory if you repaint it. Looks like it just needs some PDR and a polish. So many people repaint cars unnecessarily and destroy the original factory paint which is hands down the best for durability.

It rides like no other, Very reliable and light years ahead in technology - Push start, keyless go system, lumber support, unique cabin filtration system, massaging seats, soft close doors, etc. This vehicle will still get you home safe even when the pump fails ❤❤❤ W220. Ive had an S430, S400 hybrid, GL450. S430 still gets the medals.

You are missing the clip in the radiator shroud that holds the overflow or overpressure hose. At 4:32 in this video. There is a clip that the hose should run through and it clips in to the radiator shroud where is say TOP.

Ive just got a w220 same colour and wheels as yours , but its 320cdi , i came from a w222 before this and im sure the 220 is quiter inside then the 222

Nice. Well I'm not surprised to hear that. I guess the rot at Mercedes-Benz started with the W220. I was recently driven around when visiting China in a new E class. Was surprised by how cheap the interior trim looked and was far less refined than my 20 year old S-Class by a long shot.

Have been thinking lately of pulling out my 1974 450 SEL and giving it a once over. It ended up parked after the cold start fuel enrichment decided not to shut off. At 74,000 miles it is still in excellent shape having lived in the desert area of Eastern Oregon. Strangely the only part I ever replaced was the intermediate prop shaft bearing! Pastel blue with white leather! Sits next to the 1965 Jaguar Mark 10.

Hard question to answer. If by long-lasting you mean mileage wise, then I would think the W126. Far less electronics to worry about than the W140 or W124. That said, if any car is regularly and properly maintained then realistically these cars will go forever. I assume your trying to decide which to buy? Ultimately that will come down to personal preference but always buy the best example that you can afford.

I just picked up one of these but it is an 04 with around 88k miles. Did you look into doing a Coil-over strut swap? That is about $3k-ish installed and no more worries about the suspension. So if the that system fails I will do that swap. Yeah it is a very cool feature but the cost of maintanance is crazy unless you can do it yourself.

At this point, I've not considered a coil over conversion and to be honest I'd probably ditch the car before I did that. For now it's a whole bunch of fun to drive knowing that at anytime the thing could crap itself.

Love the vid on the w116. My 280SEL is my happy place. The KJet on mine seems fine, 4th owner with 400000kms. SLS is what I am currently working on to rebuild. Can sympathise when dealing with unnecessary spending with a mechanic that should have known better or at least fessed up that he was out of his depth. Current mechanic is great and will always tell me when something is not in his area of expertise. Happy owner for the last 2 years and for the rest of my time

Hey, yes still holding up. If not driven for a few days it obviously sags and I get the warning on the dash. I then raise it a few times which seems to fix the issue.

The W116 350 SE was less powerful, but a somewhat livelier car to drive. Similar situation with the W126... the 500 SE was a nicer car to drive than the 560 SEL.

That humming moaning sound at 1500 rpm is your abc accumulators indicating imminent failure. Change them all if you have not. Thats one of the ways to avoid a dizaztuh

i can comferm this, the are 4 accumulators one this cars. when this fails, it may send rubber bits in the ABC system

It's a very good car but those chrome arch are not a good idea as they cause a lot of rust best to loose them.

Hi I am in Perth. There are 2 for sale 560sel for 20 and 23k. 416000km and 170000km. But the high km is in a gorgeous blue. The low km is olive which to choose...................😢 .

The 3rd mechanic that I took the car to helped me register the car. Ultimately, there was nothing wrong with the struts or any other part of the ABC system. Yes there was a slight weep around one of the struts but certainly nothing that would warrant writing the car off.
