@DavidNitzscheBell2 жыл бұрын
yes, it's allowed. This example was a bit exaggerated, but he was trying to set the attacker, but his set was imprecise and went over. Sometimes wind can play a factor. For me, I'm just shit with my setting accuracy. If I try to set it close to the net, 2 or 3 out of 10 will actually go over. you can tell because I yell "FUCK!" the moment it leaves my hands. and it's quite a battle when the opposing team just catches the ball and says "fault!" actually, sonny boy, not a fault. the only fault was the carry when you caught the ball. but thanks for playing.

If the ball has only partially crossed the net, then you can still attack it, that is a shared space. When the ball has completely crossed the net then its in your opponent's space and you can no longer touch it.

What is someone presses the ball to the top of the net, basically forcing you to touch it whilst you are blocking?
@jpzehner2 жыл бұрын
No fault if the ball presses the net directly into blocker or from resulting oscillation. Ref's discretion if any simultaneous blocking action also results in a fault. I've seen nets blown into players under windy circumstances without fault. Ref's discretion I'd say.

Unrelated but you're allowed to reach over the net on third hits in indoor volleyball right?
@nolajoe5802 жыл бұрын
beach as well, if the opposing team completed all 3 touches you can contact the ball over the net as far as you can reach
@AudiFanPK2 жыл бұрын
@@nolajoe580 The three touches are not required. You are allowed to go and reach over the net if the opposing team makes an offensive play. So you may not interrupt a pass or a set, but you may block an over-on-one or over-on-two as far over the net as you can go. Same as indoor btw.
@nolajoe5802 жыл бұрын
@@AudiFanPK you can touch the ball before 3 touches if the other team doesn't have a chance ,or shows that they're trying to play/recover that touch. Your observation is 100% correct, as far as pointing out offensive intent, but when someone goes over on 1 intentionally they usually do so where there's no blocker set, same with over on 2, but when one "shanks" a pass tight and the setter is under the net, trying to recover it, even if that ball would clearly go over the net, the blocker may not block that ball reaching over the net. Same with a set.

Good rule of thumb is “no fingertips”. A perfectly legal tip (what you mentioned) is making your hands like a cat claw and just tapping it. You can even technically use an open hand so long as it’s a “percussive movement” meaning that you try to hit it (even if it’s weak) compared to tipping it.

The shown examples are correct. But it is important to mention, that reaching beyond the net can be legal, even on blocking "free ball", if the ball is coming towards the other side and attacking team does not have a chance to have a play on the ball. (not attempting to make another contact, or if the ball is clearly out of their reach). 11.1.1 In blocking, a player may touch the ball beyond the net, provided that he/she does not interfere with the opponent’s play before the latter’s attack hit.

However: You may always reach over the net to block any offensive play, regardless of how many times the ball was played.

What does that mean "if the ball is close and you cannot make a swing on it, you use knuckles"? If it's far away and you can swing at it, you can use open hand?
@EricErocKAnderson2 жыл бұрын
When the ball is close to the net, it is often very difficult to make a swing and follow through. Players will try to place the ball on the other side of the net with less force and the ball doesn't come off the hand clean. Using your knuckles to "poke" the ball on the other side of the court is a clean way to get the same result. When a player is farther off the net a swing will come off clean from your hand because of the follow through.
