Great sound, I own the same drum. Usually tune it medium - high (275/400Hz and G3 fundametal note). This only proofs why aluminium is go to metal in recording industry (Supraphonic). Tune it high or tune it low, it sounds good. Very versatile instrument. I was considering getting copper one but couldn't compare it with aluminium. In the end I'm happy with this one

Surprisingly I like the 15 x 4 Aronoff special. I did not expect it to sound so full. But the rim shots did not sound good on it. With a 15 inch snare, do you still need to worry about rim shots? I kid, cuz they sounded fine on the 15 x 8 inch. weird.

I knoe that the star fonic snare has the gruved hoops. are they heavyer or lighter than tripple flanged hoops? I have been thinking about getting one.
@champaignstudios
@champaignstudios Жыл бұрын
They are a tad heavier than the 1.2mm hoops but lighter than the 2.3mm brass Mighty Hoops. The hole spacing of the lugs and the rods work perfectly with any of the Tama 10-hole hoops. It's a great way to alter the character of the drum.

@@champaignstudios thanks so mutch. Would this snare work with any 10 hole hoop from any brand? Because I'm not a huge fan of the claws that hold the hoop on. I like this snare, but that's the only thing i'm not a huge fan of.
@champaignstudios
@champaignstudios Жыл бұрын
@@michaeldavis5106 No, any old hoop will not work. I tried a 14" Chinese die cast hoop and it did not fit any of my snare drums. Its diameter is exactly 14". The Tama hoops are 14.125" in diameter.

In your opinion should I buy again the starphonic aluminium and replace the hoops or buy a Slp aluminium? I didn't like the hoops of the starphonic. With the moongel It was too dry, without It was too cutting and high pitched. I should have done exactely what you said before selling It...

@@noostrings I’ve been experimenting with Tama brass Mighty Hoops and Tama die cast hoops on the batter side. My ears tell me the brass hoop help sustain the overtones better than the Starphonic hoops and the die cast hoop dries up the overtones for a more focused sound. 👍

The starphonic maybe have a little fatter sound but the aluminum SLP is more crisp and when you really get into both of them I'd think the SLP sounds just as good or better. And I just bought The SLP aluminum dry snare and I'm extremely pleased with this drum that Tama put out for half the price. I think that's what makes the SLP line such a good line are the metal snares not so much their wood snares. I mean there are a few nice wood snares in that line Like the spotted gum, bubinga and classic Maple. But their metal snares are great. I've also got a Gretsch Brooklyn Standard, not a better wood sound out there!
@MatChew75

I just bought the SLP aluminum dry certainly half the price of the starphonic . SLP aluminum is more crisp Than the starphonic which has a little fatter sound. When you really get into both of them I really don't see the difference I really think the SLP actually sounds a little better and it's half the price. Oh I think i fared well. for the price of the SLP you just can't beat it; with that sweet of a sound. Actually I will invest my money into a high end metal snare like a ludwig or slingerland metal snare. But I got another snare. It's wood, But it's one of the most sensitive & sweet sounding woods snares I've heard....the Gretsch Brooklyn Standard . It's a blend of Maple and poplar. it's got one of the old school mufflers( new design)and the wood is actually lined with metal. 42 snares , remo permatone heads and the 302 rims. I actually replace the permatone remo batterhead with a Evans heavyweight(coated reverse dot). Sounds killer!!!

This isn't a very fair comparison. You are comparing an snare that has twice as much depth as the other. Try comparing the 15x8 with a 14x8 next time. Looking forward to it. It also sounds like they have different tension on the snare heads?
@hannes1734
@hannes1734 3 жыл бұрын
Why? Someone might want to know if they should buy a shallow or a deep snare drum. I bet that if he had compared the 15x8 to a 14x8, someone would've said, it's not fair, blahblah you are compairing a 14 inch drum to a 15 inch drum, rather compare it to the 15x4 inch Tama Snare

I like the Starclassic wires better in this drum. I bought a few sets of Puresound wires for a few used Tama drums I purchased over the last few years and I prefer the Starclassic High Carbon and Sensitive High Carbon wires the best. Those straps Puresound include with the metal clips are not a good idea. If you never play the drum they stay put just fine. But once the drum is played the pin that’s not long enough slides over and slips through the slot on the snare endplate. Regular wires and regular cloth straps should be included in the package.
@ryandonohue152
@ryandonohue152 3 жыл бұрын
I bought those Puresound wires with the clips.. Exactly what you said happened during a performance. Snare became a tambale. Threw the straps and pins away. Picked up Starclassic bell brass wires. They are sweet. Sabian also makes a blended snare wire that sounds similar.
@Assimilator702
@Assimilator702 3 жыл бұрын
@@ryandonohue152 I knew I wasn’t the only one. Puresound should re-evaluate those thick straps and speed clips. I purchased a few rolls of polyester ribbon material which is very close to the straps Tama uses on their snares. I also had a few Tama snares that would not work with the Puresound wires at all until the wires were cranked. I bought a few extra sets of Tama wires and slapped a set on that one snare and it was exactly what I needed. I have a set of the Tama Bell Brass wires and those work great on brighter sounding snares.
