Hi John. Nice autograph pickups. I also saw John`s (Wade Boggs Fan)video and think he said it best. I would not say you whiffed on this card, but if you were going to buy it in person, you might have had a different opinion. You just don't get enough transparency on ebay. That is the main reason I have stopped buying for the most part off of that site, especially expensive cards. I do really enjoy buying in person more now, as I really get to look over the card. Thanks for sharing and it still is a very eye appealing card of a great HOFer. Nice pickup pal. Talk soon my friend.

I think the Feller card is very nice. Cool that Al Downing singed in two different color inks.

Hi John, First the TTMs, sweet stuff there. Two Downings, a Jim Perry and a Pasquel is a a solid group of autos.. The Feller looks pretty fantastic to me. It has some great color and registry. He is someone I want to add. I think it looks fantastic but worst case scenario if you decide you can’t live with it it should not be a Problem getting your money back. Congrats on adding that one!
@jpcards5 күн бұрын
Thanks, Steve. It's a great feeling to pick up a target card, which this was, and like you said the color and registration are solid. I still need his '54 for my Bowman HoFer goal; maybe at that point I'll be inclined to sell this '49, but I like his '49 a heck of a lot more!

Thanks, Dylan! I think it's very interesting and very cool that a few of the comments here are noting Downing signing in different colors. Little thoughtful touches like that really resonate. And it's great simply to have a Bob Feller card!

Hi John, very cool that Downing signed in two colors. I think the Feller looks great but you have to live with it in your collection. I don’t agree with the old vs new argument. I hear it often. I think the grading is more consistent than it is given credit for and I have 25 years of slabs to show for it. Of course, there are exceptions. Very early PSA cards with the primitive labeling do have a tendency to be over-graded vs later generation slabs. I have a new flip SGC 3 1948 Doak Walker and it has a crease on the side. When I buy a 3 I know it’s a possibility but it is a tough card and it has nice color. So does your Feller. Nice pickup.
@jpcards5 күн бұрын
Thanks, Terry -- I really appreciate your insight on PSA grading over the years. Sounds like a great video you could do (if you haven't done it already). I do really like the color on this particular copy -- the striking red is what immediately drew me to the card a few years back, perhaps even more than the great shot of Rapid Robert throwing.

Hi John. I had that happen to me on a recent graded PSA 4 ‘62 Topps Stan Musial. A smaller crease/wrinkle in the upper left but I couldn’t tell from the photo. Which was a really good photo from the seller’s listing. There was no mention of it in the description. It didn’t even dawn on me until I got the card. I definitely overpaid for it too. But, a year later It doesn’t bother me. I’ve used the card in a couple of my videos, and I wouldn’t think anyone could tell the wrinkle was there. It was my first base card of Stan. Still got it. To me a crease if subtle adds character. If you feel you paid a fair price for it then keep it. Plus, it’s your first Feller card. I’d keep it for that reason alone.
@jpcards5 күн бұрын
A first Feller is a pretty compelling reason to keep it, that's for sure. Sorry to hear about your experience on the Musial at the time you picked it up, but I'm glad to know that that's far enough in the past and you simply enjoy having a great card of a Cardinals legend today.
@The_Cincinnati_Kid5 күн бұрын
@@jpcards thanks John. I hope you keep the Feller. I only have one Feller card: the ‘55 Bowman.
@MarksDodgersCards6 күн бұрын
Alejandro Peña!!! Love it! About the Feller- nice looking card but if the crease bothers you, you can always sell it. No harm in that as you note.
@jpcards5 күн бұрын
At the moment, enjoying having it and checking off a target card does outweigh selling it. But it's something I will revisit probably at the start of the year, see how I feel about it then. And Peña, he was a pretty darn good pitcher -- a 3.11 career ERA!

I think it is a nice card I don’t think you whiffed but that’s just me. If it is a box checked off my list then I am winning. I can always upgrade later is my thought.

Hi John Wow awesome cards and loving the stories and history of what they mean to you. Every card was more fantastic than the one before and this was super fun to watch. The screw downs are very much old school and take me back as well. I would offer that Ichiro is an "I" RC worth considering soon. HOF next year? So, the "O" RC is nice but it's really an E or K for Eddie Kranepool. When you introduced Mr. Quilici I was impressed as I was very much interested in how you would handle the "Q" issue. Nicely done. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend.
@jpcards11 күн бұрын
Thanks so much and glad you enjoyed the video! And yes, Ichiro, is absolutely the perfect I -- he's one of my favorite all-time players and somehow I didn't think of him! And that's only because I was thinking vintage era first and foremost, and simply because I don't have an Ichiro RC. I was so far out of the hobby during his entire playing career, and I just haven't taken a shine to cards from roughly 1992 to 2009 since returning. I have bought a few 2010s cards here and there (like the Xander) but nothing major.

One of the best baseball books I have read recently. Loved the video.

Thanks for the comment, Ken! It is a really good card shop. The inventory is a big thing it has going for it. Another reason why I really like it is because even though I'm lucky to have two smaller shops in my town, sports cards play second fiddle to comic books/TCG in one, and coins/precious metals in the other.

I've been a long time collector and really enjoyed this video. Charlie Grimm was my Great-Uncle - AKA, my grandfather's brother. He's long forgotten by most but he really did have one of the longest and most varied careers in baseball history. He started out as a peanut vendor at Sportsman Park (home of the St. Louis Cardinals) and got the opportunity to throw and shag balls with the players before the game and somehow or another parlayed that into a tryout and spot on the roster. Shortly thereafter At 17 years of age he was facing the likes of Walter Johnson - struck out on 3 pitches with the bat on his shoulder and says he didn't see any of them they were so fast. He had a long playing career and eventually player/manager in 1932. He had 3 managing stints with the Cubs and 1 with the Boston/Milwaukee Braves in the 1950's. He was also a broadcaster, Part Owner of the Milwaukee Brewers (Triple AAA at that time) with Bill Veeck, Executive, and Scout - all in all his career spanned well over 50 years. On top of all of that he was known for being a comedian and entertainer. He played banjo as a part of a team band that would entertain the fans before the game. He would often perform skits and comedy during parties, meetings, and public events. He is the manager with the dejected look holding his head up with his hand in the Norman Rockwell painting "The Dugout". His autobiography is "Jolly Cholly's Story" if you ever want to read more and also get a great feel for the history and fun of the game during the times that he was active. I have my grandfather's copy that he signed with a personal note. He is definitely in the Hall of Fame for characters of the game
