Bravo, the van looks brilliant, so warm and cosy. I’m about to buy my very first van and the Iveco Daily 6 seems to tick all the boxes. Have you had any problems mechanically with yours, how do you rate it? Cheers.
@CharlieRachel2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! We highly recommend Iveco. Although they aren’t perfect, they seem to be the most reliable larger van in Australia. We have many friends who have gone down the Sprinter/Transit/Crafter/Master path and so many have had major issues. That’s not to say that every single one will have issues, but on average they seem to be less reliable. We have had no major issues thus far…🤞🏼 But if we were to recommend a specific model, it would be the Iveco Daily’s from 2006 onwards. They are more reliable than older models and parts and servicing are more available in Australia. If you are in Port Lincoln, you may find servicing harder. We just do our own while we are there. Alternatively there is a dealership available in Pt Augusta or Adelaide who will charge top dollar. The best Iveco mechanic around is this guy - mdservice.com.au - but he’s been in Sydney. But he also has the cheapest Iveco parts in Aus. Hope that helps!

How long did it take to complete the build?
@CharlieRachel3 жыл бұрын
7 months of doing about 20-30 hours a week! But we do work slow... Oh and a lot of that work was not to do with the build, but on the van itself!

hello, i would like to convert a 2018 iveco daily however the height is only 1.90 meters inside. so i'm guessing that with the ceiling and floor installed i wo'nt be able to stand. how tall is your loading area before and after conversion? SO i can understand better thanks
@CharlieRachel3 жыл бұрын
Hey Alessandro, that sounds pretty similar to ours. We screwed the ceiling and floor directly to the vans existing framework to maximize the interior height. I think our roof height is currently about 1.87 which means it would have been about 1.9 to begin with 👍🏼

Hey Marvin, we get between 8-9 liters per 100km doing 90-95km/h. About 10 liters around town. I think that’s around 38-41 MPG... don’t quote me on that though 😂

This is very nice. With all that space why not include a bathroom so you are not having to always seek that out on a daily basis?
@CharlieRachel3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It's possible something that we'll consider in future builds, but 'all that space' really isn't much space at all, especially when you have everything you own in it. For us, other things took priority over having a bathroom and we still haven't regretted that decision 😊

What kind of fuel do you drive. Would your concept work on the fossil free cng engine?
@CharlieRachel3 жыл бұрын
It's a diesel engine. I don't believe gas works very well in a diesel engine as it lacks the lubrication properties that diesel has. We are hanging out for a decent sized electric van to become available on the Australian market!

Love your van build. Would like information your GVM and how hard it was to stay below this for registration purposes.
@CharlieRachel3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Kevin. We tried to save weight where ever we could without compromising on quality too much. Our build is probably heavier than some, but when we're fully loaded we still come under our GVM of 3,500KG by about 100kg. Haha. If we did it again we would probably go dual rear wheels with a GVM of 4,500kg, just so it handles a bit better on the road and so the suspension isn't always fully loaded👍🏼

Great van guys! Did you do the electrical yourselves or hire a electrician? I'm looking to DIY a van conversion and not sure about the compliance we have to follow in Australia. Did certain things need to be certified before you could get it insured.rego'd etc? Cheers guys :)
@CharlieRachel3 жыл бұрын
Hey, sorry for the slow reply! I (Charlie) did the electrical, which is all 12 volt. No issues as far as rego goes, it's just registered as a regular van. I believe if you want to register it as a camper it will need to be signed of by an engineer, which is both expensive and time consuming. If I was to have a 240v system, I would definitely have it done by an electrician. Our gas system is really simple, but my grandfather, who is a gas fitter and plumber, helped us with that. I hope that helps!

What a fantastic Van build and I was hoping after watching your other Vid, you would explain how you built this Van but from what you have shown it is a very relaxing and comfortable van. I like the front access lifting the bench top to access the front cabin. really nice. You could easily do a long term travel in this Van, Most excellent guy's. the cooking area is an inviting ease of use and a place one would enjoy being in especially when you open the door to some fantastic views. Much better than suburbia and back yard neighbours.

Thank you Peter! Yes, if we had known ahead of time we would be sharing our van on KZbin we would have certainly documented the build and our method. But KZbin wasn’t part of the plan at that stage. Perhaps if we build another one... it is very comfortable and we are very pleased with how it turned out. Thanks again and stoked you like it! 👍🏼

Congratulations to your Iveco Daily conversion: Fantastic! We live in Germany and want to start this year converting an Iveco Daily into a surf mobile. So we picked a lot of really good ideas from your video. One question although: We some some toilet in the video but no toilet. What is your solution for that?
@arusaama-dieweltderpilze1384 жыл бұрын
sorry... We saw some toilet paper in the video but no toilet.
@CharlieRachel3 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply! Thank you so much and that's very exciting for you with lots of new surf adventures on the way. Haha! That's very observant of you. We decided not to carry a toilet with us, as most of the time we either have access to excellent facilities or we are remote and so use a shovel (there are guidelines that we follow for responsible bush toileting within Australia). We have decided that a toilet would be handy for night times in built up areas and so we will incorporate a small toilet into our next van along with an indoor shower. Enjoy your travels!

I was raised in a trailer in the 50s and 60s, and here in the States, that meant blonde wood (to keep it light)...consequently, I never want blonde wood around. I love dark stains and a 'richer' feel to the wood, if it has to be unpainted. Yours is absolutely the very best example of leaving the wood tones to just look their best. The tung oil finish is surprisingly warm and you both did a great job with the pallet wood. I would have thought that all the detail, woodgrain, knots, etc. would have been too busy, but instead, it was just wonderfully varied and not at all a blonde wasteland...thanks so much for sharing your home, it is so beautifully thought out.
