Everybody thinks it’s better on the other side of the mountain. And if you think medical is great over there, I recall watching that documentary about that Canadian nurse that got bit by the shark in Cozumel and how they botched her up in the hospital and she almost lost her life, but they flew her back to Canada and saved her

If your debt is a mortgage, I don't see that as real debt, your mortgage payment is more like paying rent to yourself, with the hope of upside appreciation, and better control of your living arrangements. Of course that doesn't come without some risks, and you can't bite off more than you can handle, presumably you have some equity. I saw taking a mortgage as a diversification/tax strategy. While I could have liquidated assets and purchased outright, having the money in the bank gives me more options. Tax wise, I can spread out my gains (versus selling all at once and paying big taxes) and when I purchased outright I could deduct interest and real estate taxes (less attractive now that they raised the standard deduction and limited SALT deductions).

So.... It did grow on you guys! Our predecessors have influenced who we are. We owe them the respect they earned while doing the best they could to provide us with what was possible. You went back against all odds to take care of your family. It takes more responsibility when providing for all. Well done. I think you will be happy and successful in whatever you and your family decide to pursue. Cienti anni!

I am living a similar experience; I have to return temporarily bc my mother isn't yet a US citizen; my father is. And they are getting older. I have relocated abroad for some good years. But I need to return, so we take care of the immigration paperwork -- mother was a frequent traveler. In my case, both are on board to move out afterward. Mother visited once and kept asking me when are we getting a bigger house in the cou try i have relocated to so they can move with me.

I am not sure where you live in Florida, we have some great homeopathic practitioners that prevent and cure diseases, even though I think 2 of the countries were taken out. Dr. Powers is in Martin County and he has an online website that ask questions in order to him to provide you with a formula that will help keep you young as well has cure your alignments. Dr. Spears in Palm Beach.. Dr. MERCOLA is another. Now that you are a creator there is another whose name I can't recall right now but he has also built aa data base for us as well as to keep the remedies at hand. Utilizing homeopathic practitioners and caring catastrophic health insurance may be the way to go for us middle-aged young adults. Best of luck!!

Super-interesting! It takes courage to reinvent yourself over and over again. But I am certain that those years that you spent in Mexico free of money worries count as some of your best years. I in a certain way also reinvented myself. Years ago I had married a Greek husband and fell in love with the country and lifestyle of Greece. I actually fell in love with Greece and I think as a result married a Greek. I divorced and bought myself a small place on a Greek island ,which I visited ,now for 34 years ,every summer. I was able to do this because I was a college professor in California. Because I was raising two young boys alone I was unable to permanently move to Greece. At age 81 I moved from Los Angeles to the Central Coast of California, away from the city. Everyone thought that I was crazy! One of my sons lives there now, on a hill surrounded by oak trees and peace and quiet. Now at age 83 I am presently enjoying my Greek island ,with its sunshine and friendly, welcoming people! I don’t think that my friends think that I am crazy any longer!!!

0:27 if you have disposed 99,99% of all your belongings in the US and you have still left a car full of stuff how much stuff did you have had originally ?! Must have been a gargantuan amount 😮 since the stuff you are left with represent 0.01% that means that your original stuff was 10.000 times the amount you have retained in the car thats immense

You will be very successful, it's who you are. Congratulations on walking away from the badge safely again. Enjoy all of your time with your family.

I'm the grandma and great grandma, and would love to have a talk with yours. I would tell her that she was very selfish to reject your offer, and cause such upheaval in your lives. She should have had to make her own alternate plans then. If I was needing extra help, and couldn't live alone anymore, and was offered a home with family, I would gratefully accept. Not all grandparents have such generous adult children as you both. Sigh

Private Healthcare in Mexico is the best. My uncles who live in Texas pay what i pay yearly, in a monthly basis. And you might think: it must be raggedy hospitals.- No, they are top of the line, they are from the Christus Health System, which have top of the line hospitals in USA. Next time look into moving to places like San Pedro in Nuevo León, 2 hours away from Texas, the most richest city in the entire Latin America, excellent hospitals and the best living. But because Nuevo León is one of the most industrious States, don’t expect people to be as “nice” here. Over here it’s a bustling, job oriented state, not so much a tourist dependent state. If you ask me, it’s the best of both worlds: Hard working, conservative people who mind their own business, next to the border, job focused, but still the Mexican charm and economy.

What a great video. I find is very relatable. In 2013 I returned to the States after a decade abroad. Since then I've had no debt, worked for myself, and managed to survive on an average of $14,000.00 per year, in NYC. But now Mom is failing and I have to move to Florida to take care of her. No more NYS medicaid. No more working for myself in NYC. About to start a new life in Florida and start shopping for health insurance. It helps to know there are others on similar paths.

Why you left Mexico: It then took over 7 minutes to tell us (10 seconds of that block of time used) that your mom's geriatric needs caused you to move back to the U.S. Seriously? Most of us were hoping for some safety information (Cartel style and/or Police type extortion, etc.) to make us aware that maybe Messko isn't such a good place to live. Permanent Residency in Mexico is not an overnight done deal. Unless your wife or your (living) parent(s) are Mexican Citizens, it can take a good 5 years to obtain. P.R. basically requires legal help from a Mexican attorney, plus all costs involved. Applying starts with a visit to a Mexican Consulate in the U.S. It means being granted a Temporary Residency for 3 years before applying for Permanent Residency but you have internet access so you know all of this.
