The end of Spider-Man PS4 when Peter chooses to save the city instead of Aunt May really does it for me. I think it actually perfectly contrasts the end of The Last of Us. Joel chooses to save his daughter instead of everyone else because that is what a dad would do. Peter on the other hand chooses to be a hero and save everyone because that’s what heroes do
@TygerTyme12 күн бұрын
Great comparison! I love that. It does perfectly contrast it. The interesting part is that both Ellie and Aunt May would have wanted the respective men to not help them - because they saw saving others over their own life as the right thing to do. Where Peter chose to do it and Joel (the kind, lonely man) couldn’t live without Ellie so he couldn’t let it happen. Very interesting comparison! Thank you for the comment!

I disagree, it is a huge issue. If you hire primarly on sex, sexuality and or race, you will simply not get the best writers and or programmers and the people you will hire will simply not have the skills aquired to fill those demands, that is just the way it is. Also, people who take jobs, which are openly only for specific groups, are most likely indoctrinated. Imagine offering jobs only for Christians and Muslims, the people taking those jobs, will obviously have values and beliefs which are either Christian and or Islamic, so making them write an Atheist game, whatever that would look like, will be very difficult, you don't have a lot of Christians and Muslims working at "Charlie Hebdo", but you do have great Satire Writers. And that is the point, Sex, Race, Sexuality does and should not matter, only merrit and qualifications. The moment you place your focus on those three things, you will simply not get the best, it's a simple numbers game. If Group A has 100k programmers and group B only 50k, but you want to have 50/50, you will not end up with the best programmers on the market, it is simply not possible.
@TygerTyme18 күн бұрын
You’re missing the point here. Hiring based on sex, sexuality and race can certainly pose problems and the most qualified candidate should get the job. Nowhere did I say that wasn’t the case. DEI is not an issue BECAUSE it’s not an issue. This is an uncommon thing and hardly affects any games besides a select few. My point here is that writing, bad design, bad technical aspects are much more prevalent in gaming than DEI ‘infiltrating our beloved games’. It’s not a real issue. People love to exaggerate for views and likes (which I get because being ‘anti-woke’ sells) but DEI is such a minute issue. There’s no evidence that DEI hires are the reason for bad games either as far as I’ve seen. I don’t even know how we can tell who is a ‘DEI’ hire because it’s illegal to hire based on those elements. Yes, I know people do hire based on physical characteristics even still but you’re being sucked into the narrative of fear. There are MUCH bigger issues and better ways to use your energy for change. The ‘simple numbers game’ shows that it’s not an issue. The only numbers that make it seem like it’s an issue are the big channels that get views for exaggerating and making people afraid that ‘DEI is coming for us all’. The numbers actually show the opposite of what you think. The majority of games are not affected by any of that.
@natbrownizzle138718 күн бұрын
@@TygerTyme 1. I agree, I should use my energy for better stuff. 2. I disagree, the fact is, that a professor at my own university told me that I won't get a job there, because I am white, male and not gay, I am an immigrant, but simply not dark skinned, therefore I would not get a job. 3. Of course "the majority of games" are not affected. But when Devs say that there is an issue with DEI and a "toxic culture of positivity" then I take them by their own words. We can also see game creators who do not follow the dogma, which you can see by how stories are built and narration is done, have great writers, the moment the story line becomes pretty much woke, which is it's own genre, is the moment the game is simply lacking quality. And yes, it is illegal to hire based on sex, race or sexuality, BUT in the country in which I live, right next to the paragraph on equality and on how it is not allowed to discriminate on the basis of race, sex and sexuality, it is said that measures are allowed in order to reach "equality" by which equity is meant. We allready have some job offers where they openly state that the preffer female employees. So I respectuflly disagree on that part, but I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU on the part that I need to use my energy on better things, because regardless if it is true or not, I have no influence on it, I can only focus on my own life. Have a nice evening.
@TygerTyme18 күн бұрын
I appreciate the response! I don’t take your personal experience as fact but I am sorry that happened to you. That instance does not indicate anything to me besides a corrupt professor. It’s not indicative of a larger scheme to me. That’s one example in your life but that’s really it. Thank you for sharing and that is messed up. I never want that. My point is that storylines are so rarely woke. These ‘woke’ games barely exist besides Dustborn and a few others. They fail because they’re bad not because they’re woke. Yes, those two things can both be true but ‘woke’ games are a real rarity. Rather, people like to pick one moment, one character that somehow makes the whole game ‘woke’. It can make for bad, jarring moments but it’s not ruining the whole game because it’s woke. I’m just not sure which games have storylines that are ‘woke’. People use that term way too loosely. There are bad agenda ridden games that are too ‘woke’ but it’s every other game now. The new Naughty Dog game is woke just because it has an unconventionally attractive female lead. What is even happening? The words lose the power when it’s every other game. My point is people need to stop crying wolf. But they won’t because they’re afraid and it gets views and money. I’ll call out woke when it is. But that’s rare. You have a nice one too. Thank you
@natbrownizzle138718 күн бұрын
Don't want to be harsh, but your voice is an issue. Your voice sounds somewhat like the voice of Keanu Reeves and that is not a compliment, because that actor, can not act to save his own life. But I guess it's more a matter of what you narrate. You seem to speak in waves, every sentence is a new wave, you start high and then go down low again. That is just what i wanted to say about your voice. CONCERNING enjoying games again. I recently came to the conclusion that gaming is like reading, you have to learn to focus again on what you play and focus only on that. No phones around, no distractions, oyu are not missing out on anything anyway. You allready decided (I write "you" but I speak in general) to turn your back on the world and play a game, so why should you be "avalable" and or "connected", just focus on the game, the story and everything that comes with it. You can be "zen" bout it and try to enjoy the moment and be aware of what the game offers you. The colors, soundtrack, voice acting, etc., that way, you will enjoy most games, unless the writing is crap. But yeah, whenever I remind myself to be "aware" of the story and it's elements, I feel like a child again. That is the thing about most children, they give one thing their whole attention, as adults we basically have to learn to do that again and only focus on one thing, everything is taken care of and if not, it's too late to worry about it anyway, unless you have kids or pets you first have to feed. So yeah, those are my two cents on this. Please do not take the thing I wrote about your voice personally. Your voice is fine, but you just have to find a narration style that fits your voice, imagine Kamala Harris as a motivational speaker, it would not really work, nobody wants to listen to that, so every voice, I believe, has to find it's own style of text it can read out loud and if it reads a text, it has to find it's own rhythm so not to sound silly and or fake and or bored. What you are talking about is interesting, the delivery is just not good. Peace out.
@TygerTyme18 күн бұрын
Haha quite a comment to see first thing in the morning. But I appreciate the feedback as always. I am hesitant to take that advice because I do think Keanu Reeves can act. I appreciate you saying what I talk about is interesting. I’m having fun doing it. Trying to get better every video. I will take your advice into consideration. Thank you for the thoughtful comment. I’m glad you can relate to the sensation I’ve spoken about. Kamala Harris does have a grating voice so I can see your angle there. I have the luck to hang around musicians every now and then and theater actors and one thing I learn by observing them is that your voice is an instrument. The likelihood is it'll be woke trash, maybe we'll get lucky, but cdpr has put out enough media stating they are on board with DEI and bridge... and everything DEI touches turns to crap.
@TygerTyme19 күн бұрын
I wouldn’t say that’s the likelihood. In fact, given their track record I’d give them the benefit of the doubt. DEI is such a minute part of gaming that it’s barely even worth worrying about. It’s affected a few games but It’s hardly ruined any game. People just blow it out of proportion for views and likes. There are much bigger problems in gaming like bad writing.
@Rageofthemohawk19 күн бұрын
@TygerTyme if you honestly believe that, frankly I don't think we can have a productive conversation. Veilguard failed explicitly because of DEI agenda pushing, avowed is likely to meet the same fate after the art director matt Hansen has repeatedly put his foot in his mouth, both concord and dustborn were absolute trash... and just look at the agenda that cdpr has been pushing over the past few years, most of the orginal staff that produced witcher 1 - 3 are gone... at the end of the day believe what you want, but the facts at this time do not bear that out.
@TygerTyme19 күн бұрын
@@Rageofthemohawk well I'm always down to have a productive conversation as long as my fellow participant is too. If we're talking about facts Veilguard failed because it had poor writing, lack of RPG mechanics, and it was nothing like the darker, grittier games before it. It failed because it didn't feel like a Dragon Age game to a lot of people. You saying it failed because of DEI implies to me that you're preaching someone else's words because if you listen outside of that 'anti-woke/DEI' circle then you'll see there are much bigger things wrong with the game. DEI is not why the game failed. There are a few cringe moments in the game where it's shoved in the players' face but it's not 'ruining' the game or even why it's bad. Baldur's Gate 3 had plenty of 'DEI' moments but it was well written, a great RPG and stayed faithful to the series so it was loved. It's not the DEI. Like I said, it can affect some games. And I will admit when it does. Dustborn was absolutely a product of some DEI-style agenda. I totally agree with you. It can definitely ruin certain games. But it's very uncommon that DEI is THE reason why. Or even a big reason. You are just listening to certain narrative I think. The reasonable thing to do is step back and see that, yes, it happens but it's a small problem. Concord was bad and failed for multiple reasons. DEI not being any of them as far as I can tell. It was a lame hero shooter that was worse mechanically than Overwatch and had no interesting characters or storylines. Where's the DEI? It was just a worse Overwatch so of course it wouldn't do well. I don't see the 'facts' you're talking about but I am glad we can have this conversation. And I do feel that it's productive because we're both hearing each other out! I respect talking with someone who can disagree but still have a good conversation. It's rare. Especially online. So, I appreciate that we can talk about this here.

This "new" audience are just the ppl that grew up in the last.. what is it now. 14 years? I guess there are people that like to play RPGs in gritty, dark fantasy worlds who didn't hear, read, play Witcher Stuff till now.

That’s what it looks like to me too! I’m excited for the game and to see what they do with her and Geralt too. But I don’t think it’s a bad thing to make the game accessible. That’s all it seems they’re trying to do.

@@TygerTyme Let's not forget they also tried to make Witcher 3 more accessible because it was a much bigger game than Witcher 1 and 2 combined. If you are spending way much more money on a sequel, the player base need to be bigger as well. Also, I think they made a great job making Witcher 3 more accessible. They had to sacrifice some hardcore elements like having to drink potions before a battle which was very immersive in Witcher 2. But they didn't just remove that part, instead they focused on aspects that appeal to everyone, such as coming up with a great story.

@@echorises I’m with you! Totally agree. They’ve done it well before so they’ve earned that trust. Let’s see if they can do it again. Based on the track record I’m feeling good about it.

She does not become a Witcher, the whole point is thar she is rly powerfull but does not like her powers but wants to become a witcher which she can not. Its not possible (not bc she is a girl) CDPR said a lot of things, and the new witcher was supposed to be closer to the conjunction of the spheres before geralt with more witcher and schools active. Which now dis CDPR completly dissmissed. Im not mad that Ciri is a new protagonist but the essential that she can NOT become a Witcher. Their explanation has to be ironproof for it to work, bc essenitally they nerfed her with this.
@echorises25 күн бұрын
How did you come up with "girls cannot become witchers?" Wasn't there some cat school female witchers? Even if it is not the case, what do you think the Witcher is about? That universe does not have arbitrary laws such as "that cannot be this etc." It has the dynamicism of the real world and that makes it great.
@TygerTyme24 күн бұрын
Well, when I say she’s becoming a Witcher I’m literally quoting from their interview so that’s straight from them. I also think Ciri needs to be nerfed to make the game more difficult because if they keep her full elder blood powers plus being a Witcher then she should be unstoppable which wouldn’t be the most interesting to play. To me, it doesn’t appear that they’re ‘completely’ dismissing lore. Let’s give them a chance. They’ve done great work before and their track record shows they deserve the benefit of the doubt anyway. @echorises makes a good point too. The world is fluid. They can make a dynamic world and Ciri herself is kind of a rule breaker with her powers and general existence. She’s an exception to most things.

Hopefully no agenda! but its a Polish studio so shouldn't be too agendable.

It makes me quite happy, just hope she is not too OP like in wildhunt. While I do not think ciri being the next protagonist is driven by a political agenda, I do understand why people are so sensitive about this given how many games have been ruined by woke garbage in recent and upcoming games. (Yes black hiphop samurai in AC shadows, that is you)
@nikolafindak152925 күн бұрын
That is the Whole point, if they want to respect the character she has to be OP with strong powers and wanting to be a witcher but can never achieve it. That is the whole Point of the character.

Let me point out: AC had been ruined since after the second game. Do you have any other games that come into your mind? I feel like you guys are being manipulated to point out to irrelevant stuff whereas the real reason those games suck still exists that are microtransactions, formulaic stories, unwillingness to listen to the player base, anti-consumer DRM technologies etc. And this is not an attack. That's just how I view things currently.

@@echorisesPorque no los dos? Both can be true, the technicalities, ignoring the people who you need to convince to buy your product and pulling moves that hinder their experience (mega long intro sequences and performance impacting DRM), along with pullung things like Yasuke An important part of Ciri is that she wants to become a witcher, she just can't. She trained with witchers and learned from them but her body rejects things made for witchers (I think she tried something in the books, maybe a potion) And honestly, if I was powerful enough to teleport and time travel I wouldn't bother myself with witcher party tricks and risky trials

@@justjoe5373 I agree with your first point. So, it is exactly why I didn't buy a single AC game since the third. This is why I don't give crap about black samurai because AC franchise/Ubisoft had already been hostile towards its player base for so long time. It is nothing new. And a black samurai? Who gives a crap? Is it cheesy? Yes. Is it yet another crap scenario barfed up by overly-industrialized game company? Yes. Forgoing all these to attack the idea of "black samurai" doesn't seem honest to me. Average gamer on the internet started to sound like 90s TV show hosts who were against video games. It is blatantly political and everyone know it. Yes, it is even more political to cry about a black samurai in a fictitious video game setting than adding a black samurai to the same setting. About Ciri: Have I missed something? Do we know anything about game's scenario? Do we know whether or not they accounted for those thing you listed? If not, maybe it is possible that you are angry about something else but trying to rationalize your anger. The whole Witcher game series started with the idea that Geralt survived, while it was not the case in the books. If they were bound to the books as much as you request them to be, there wouldn't be Geralt to begin with.

@echorises I tend to agree with you. It seems like people are being misled. The actual problems are the writing, and what you listed too. I don’t think it’s part of some grand scheme from game developers to push a narrative. I’m with you. They’re just making poor writing, design and development choices but they aren’t trying to make us all ‘woke’. There are a few exceptions but the real problems are issues like you’ve talked about. Refreshing to see this take.

I think the PS2 should definitely be number 1. It was an improvement over the PS1 in every way
@TygerTyme25 күн бұрын
A fair argument. I just have a bunch of, admittedly biased, nostalgia for the PS1. But, your argument is a valid one and one that I agree with logically. It was essentially. But it didn’t quite the revolution of the FF7 experience. What a time! Can’t go wrong really
