As @pakinde says it won’t be called Minecraft 2 if he does. It seems like the rogue-like he’s working on now is priority. I I’m 50-50 on whether he’ll actually finish it and publish it. He has even said he’s not sure if he’ll lose his passion before it’s done. So, we’ll see! Would be interesting to see if it looks anything like the games I listed.

Honestly Notch could just take the version he sold to Microsoft, add native VR support, LOD's like distant horizons, Native shader support, terrain generation changes, and update to a new engine to lessen restrictions and that could be Minecraft 2 I would love the shit outta that. Oh and also change the story elements/progression paths.

I don't think Notch can do that, legally speaking. To my knowledge, he sold all of his rights to Minecraft to Microsoft, including the previous builds

Yeah, it would be tough to keep it that similar like @absentspaghetti4527 said. VR support would be epic though! Just got a headset myself. I like your suggestions for the current Minecraft honestly. I have a feeling it would be quite different.

I Had a stroke Reading that. Minecraft doesnt even have a engine, its Just straight Game Code. LODs are complex, shader Support is complex... All kinda dumb. Well Hes Not even gonna make If anyways because it "only got 80% in the voting" Sure notch.

What to expect? Nothing. He fell down the alt right pipeline after he retired and hasn't been normal since. If he had any creativity left he wouldn't have "announced" a spiritual successor like that.

Yes, the primary focus of that post was for his roguelike. But he did say “I basically announced it.” So, yes, technically you are correct since he said ‘basically’. And, yes, I’m aware he was likely messing with everyone. However, my video is primarily about what I’d like to see if it ever comes out and if he was being serious! Which is unlikely

It seems like he likes to create his vision and then follow through with that. I get the sense he’s very hands on and the projects are driven or slowed down by his passion at any given moment. So, yes! I think he would be for sure!

And I agree with you, I can’t say I’m expecting it to be amazing.
