The Apache pilots, well they bring a whole shitload of pain to inflict. The Kiowa pilots? They just show up out of nowhere...numerous instances of those crazy assed flyboys flying CAS disregarding orders....just because they wanted to, and didn't want to leave their bros with their asses hanging in the wind over open terrain. Total respect...and Army strong. All respect to the A-10 jockeys, but Army helo pilots..the bravest mofos ever.

how long would such a convoy escort mission last ?
@jaybird3310Ай бұрын
@@warthy4889 that all depends on how far it had to go, and if we came into contact during. Some were 1hr, I had some last 4-5hrs with multiple IED hits and constant fire from the enemy

If you wanna spin some yarns, feel free to hit me up on Instagram: @virtual.reality.action Back in the day one of the guys I knew told me a cool story about how they towed an AH-64 home to an FOB in Afghan using an NZLAV and a battlefield fabricated tow bar 🤙🏼

Was this target practice or engagement of a real target?
@jaybird33102 ай бұрын
I believe this was just a quick test fire on the way out for a mission in Afghanistan if memory serves me. A lot of the terrain looks similar so usually I can tell by how many rounds were actually fired. That was a short burst.

Yep I was on hawks there in 2006. I remember all that terrain and those same terrain features. 😎🤙🏽

I just can't suffer the heavy metal "music"
@jaybird33103 ай бұрын
I mean, it’s rock, not heavy metal. And in my opinion, I’d rather listen to music than 8 hours of flying that I do daily. There are plenty of other videos without “heavy metal” music. Thanks for the view though!

Watching the KIOWAS work back when I was in the Arghandab was wild! those dudes were straight up cowboys, and we loved them for it 2011/2012. They smoked a couple of dudes about 300 meters from the cop two weeks into us being in country. Our dudes chased them into an orchard and cordon off the area, they ended up smoking one dude, and the Kiowas got the rest. I was at COP Millet. When I was in mosul back in 2009 we bought food from the market and told the Kiowas on station that they were welcome to grab some if they could land. They landed in our COP in the middle of the city.. our cop didn't have an LZ lol. Wish I still had those pictures.

@jaybird33103 ай бұрын
It is a Scout Attack helicopter, designed to be down in the fight with the ground units, as well as being a forward observer way in front of the front lines, acting as a knife fighter.

I just picked up the kiowa for DCS. while nothing of course compared to the real thing, but it is as close as i would ever get. absolutely love flying it. the feeling of being right there on the edge in the bird. zipping around with it. cannot wait for some missions to pop up to allow us to employ this sweet weapon system. To bad the AI pretty much sucks in DCS though. Excellent videos though! keep them coming.

A bit late to the party.... I missed out on the kiowa game. Just after I left drum the unit (2/25 atk) went to hood to transfer from cobras to the delta. Best memories were the gunneries, and the deployments to the mog, and haiti. I did get lucky enough to get about 5 mins stick time in a 58 during a test flight in Somalia. Great video, regardless!!

Yeah the yaw induced by the .50cal in the real airframe was something you had to anticipate. Took a lot of practice to get good, and even then it was perishable.

Hey just a quick question. Is the MMS supposed to drop point track if the object goes behind a light pole? If not I want to report it as a bug to the developers.
@jaybird33103 ай бұрын
So if I recall, yes. That used to be the case with the MTADS as well on the Apache until an upgrade occurred. We typically didn’t use point track unless it was stationary and we were doing multiple things. Search and acquire in WFOV, observe by stepping in, and if wanting to put an AGM114 on it, you step in to NFOV. But mostly it was thumb force control all the time.
@Dionysus20093 ай бұрын
@@jaybird3310 thanks for the reply. Sounds like I'll just keep doing what I'm doing then. It's tons of fun. Just hovering enough to get the MMS just about the trees or ridge. Just back far enough for hellfires to launch. I've got to get more accurate at the .50cal and rockets, they are pretty tough to be accurate.
