On my first deployment with 3/75 we did a hard target raid in Nangarhar to snatch or drop a t-ban commander, ended up on about a 2 day follow-on. We definitely overstayed our welcome and were fighting off about a battalion plus sized element of fighters that came to play after the initial raid. For some reason the apaches we had got taken off station and we were essentially on our own for about 3 hours. Then out of nowhere 2 Kiowas flew in like bats out of hell and starting tearing the area apart, those guys didn’t let up, for the next day it felt like going well into the night, they would hit t-ban qrf hard, refit and refuel and come right back out to help us, at daybreak on the second day we finally got to exfil on on chinooks, right before we boarded one of the kiowas buzzed right over and tossed out a px parachute bag full of dip and cigarettes. I will always have love and respect for Kiowa crews

What year? That’s the stories I love hearing! We were trained to support no matter what! It was the absolute best mission a pilot could ask for in my honest opinion.

@@jaybird3310 Summer of 09, we went all over the country looking for t-ban and friends. Worked with kiowas quite a bit on that deployment. We came back early 2010 and helped the marines in Marjah and got to work with some of the same crews, after that we never really worked with them, kinda bummed us out because we loved those crews

Funny enough, the Kiowa is being released for DCS pretty soon, as well as Southern Afghanistan. I enjoy creating mission for it, would love to hear/see more of your experiences so I can draw inspiration.

Yes awesome. 60 bucks for a heli, 60 bucks for a terrain and probably 20 bucks for a campaign. I love flight sims but dcs price and content policies are ridiculous.

Watching the KIOWAS work back when I was in the Arghandab was wild! those dudes were straight up cowboys, and we loved them for it 2011/2012. They smoked a couple of dudes about 300 meters from the cop two weeks into us being in country. Our dudes chased them into an orchard and cordon off the area, they ended up smoking one dude, and the Kiowas got the rest. I was at COP Millet. When I was in mosul back in 2009 we bought food from the market and told the Kiowas on station that they were welcome to grab some if they could land. They landed in our COP in the middle of the city.. our cop didn't have an LZ lol. Wish I still had those pictures.

That was a buddy of mine as well. Depending on what years. He was a guard 60 pilot who worked for that contractor. Flew with him a time or two when I was over there.

how long would such a convoy escort mission last ?
@jaybird3310Ай бұрын
@@warthy4889 that all depends on how far it had to go, and if we came into contact during. Some were 1hr, I had some last 4-5hrs with multiple IED hits and constant fire from the enemy

@@BassReeves24 yeah in the 70s Afghanistan was a big spring break area for mountain climbers. But between Russia and warring tribes, it kind of lost its luster. A lot of the larger cities look frozen in the 1960-1970s, which is where it stopped when the Taliban came to power.
