I feel like this is the real reason Elon fired the whole supercharger team...they were going in the wrong direction and he knew it...this is the way. Sub 5 min is fine.
@spro_halver8553Ай бұрын
I don't see how this is any faster. If 4 people show up and it can only do one at a time, it took just about 5 minutes which mean the last guy had to wait 20 minutes before it's his turn and then 5 more minutes for his battery. A supercharger would be able to charge a car in that time. Plus i feel like this station will have issues way more than a supercharger would. One sensor going wrong and that stionion is down and everyone there is out of luck and if you showed up like you did with 1% battery you'll need a tow. If a 30 stall super charger has a charger go offline then you still have 29 stalls still working and maybe even a cabinet goes bad and you lose 5 stalls. Still have 25 stalls working. It's a cool concept but I just don't see a need for it when the superchargers are pretty much bulletproof and they can be installed in existing parking lots very easily and dont need new areas built.
@iversonchemist1628Ай бұрын
Your concerns are very typical for ppl never experienced this. First of all, each swap takes LESS THAN 5 minutes. Let's round it up to 5 minutes, it's exact time you expect to wait for each order. Whenever I go to the station, I can see how many orders in line and how many potential orders, and we already have more than 150 stations in just one city. This means I can plan accordingly and pick up the best station. In the worst scenario, I can switch to another station if wait time is longer than expected. For supercharger, it's more like a sterotype. Ideally it takes about 30 minutes to fully charge a vehicle, but you gonna have current shared when more than one vehicle present. Also, not every place is capable offering maximum input power as always. In my experience, the longest wait time was 20 minutes in a rainy wet peak time. However, there are always chargers nearby, and if anything wrong happens, I can simply charge my car for a few minutes and drive to another station. I've done battery swap for 43 times, and I only experienced one tight bolt issue, it took 40 minutes to solve, still faster than charging from 0 to 93%!
@iversonchemist1628Ай бұрын
One more thing to add. I can always cut in line if I DO NOT need a fully charged battery. Say, 3 orders are ahead of me, and I'm short in time. I can simply accept a 70% charged battery, and jump over if ppl waiting for fully charged battery agrees with it. The network is an important thing different from "traditional" EVs. They are smart!

Excellent video thanks for sharing. These kind of videos are excellent for us NIO investors that don't live in China or Europe. How is the sentiment towards NIO rhere? Are people expecting them to do very well in the future? Thanks again 👍
@iversonchemist1628Ай бұрын
Sure thing. NIO is considered higher tier EV maker in China, overall sentiment is established but its battery swap business model is still far too advanced to normal consumers (2,400 stations available as of now). For example, Yantze River delta region took 55% sales last year (most developed region). Its middle-tier brand Onvo against Model Y is about to release a new SUV without LADAR, dual motor, and full scale Nvidia chips, and can use Gen3/Gen4 battery swap stations. Maybe a game changer then.
@JajalaatmaarАй бұрын
It's bad here in Europe because Nio is too expensive. Other Chinese brands like Xpeng undercut them while offering similar luxury but better charging speed. Xpeng sells 4x the amount of Nio with the G9 and the G6 is coming tomorrow. In Denmark Nio scaled down operations after selling 56 cars in 2 years, which doesn't bode well for the future.
@iversonchemist1628Ай бұрын
NIO is trying to address this by leading battery swap union but it takes time. Let's see how cheaper Onvo gonna do in Euro.

Auto swap means that you don’t need to be in the vehicle correct??
@iversonchemist16289 ай бұрын
In my picture auto swap means I don't need to drive into designated lot and push a few buttons. If I "don't need to be in the vehicle", I still need to get out of car in the first place, and I found it a hassle to me xD. In fact, later this year, "auto swap" in my picture will be online on selected high way stations. Vehicle will get off high way and do battery swap, then get back to high way all by itself.

I returned mine. Practically, this might only take place when you transfer data from old driver. When you do this, the driver gets very hot and the speed will slow down. If you want to keep it, it will be just fine if you have a very good cooling solution. Plus, this driver is power demanding as well, I'd recommend go with Hynix P31 Gold, it's cooler, less power demanding and has much better sequence writing performance.

Update: the youtuber first found WD swapping cheaper parts in SN550 and SN750 released a new video, and one of the SSD they tested showed same slow speed at high working temperature: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZzHgq18bbmXqrM This means Crucial didn't swap TLC NAND but also has a very bad temperature control as well as poor drive controller. The performance is even worse than having a QLC NAND in it! Pay attention to this and avoid at all cost!
@coveyking2 жыл бұрын
That performance is disgusting. I have sata drives that write better that this. It's possible that micron made changes without notifying. All manufactures, do this including samsung - a very shady tactic. Still, QLC would have better write speeds for this type of drive. Based on tom's you should get the following for sustained write speeds: The Crucial P5 wrote roughly 200GB of data at 3GBps before degrading to a speed of 1,100 MBps.
@iversonchemist16282 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info! I tested with 340 GB data, and I started to experience speed drop within 30 secs. Based on your comment, I'd assume Crucial swapped BOTH the NAND as well as the controller to reach that slow speed! I'm glad my Hynix Gold 2 tb was really solid so I dont really need to hurry buying a gen 3 SSD in short term.

@realestek2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, i was looking for the latch hook in your video but you didnt show that. On stand by, i suggest you do a parasitic drain test. Mine was drawing 107mAh, nornal draw should just be 20mAh. This would kill your battery if you dont use your car daily.

Flashing my memories... I did not show the bottom latch because I was using wrong screw head that damaged the screw.
